About

HARRY CONNICK, JR.

Harry Connick, Jr.’s career has exemplified excellence across multiple platforms in the entertainment world over the past three decades. He has received Grammy and Emmy awards as well as Tony nominations for his live and recorded musical performances, his achievements in film and television and his appearances on Broadway as both an actor and a composer. Connick continues to establish himself as a best-selling musician, singer, composer, and a legendary live performer with millions of recordings sold around the world.

The foundation of Connick’s art is the music of his native New Orleans, where he began performing as a pianist and vocalist at the age of five.  Highlights of his music career include several multi-platinum recordings such as “When Harry Met Sally,” “Blue Light, Red Light (Someone’s There)”, “When My Heart Finds Christmas,” “Come By Me, and “Only You.”  His debut album on legendary Verve Records, his new label home, titled True Love: A Celebration of Cole Porter was released in 2019 and which coincided with performances on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre in a show he wrote and directed:  Harry Connick, Jr.- A Celebration of Cole Porter honoring the musical achievements of one of America’s most respected songwriters, Cole Porter.  In 2020 as the country entered the pandemic lockdown, he retreated to his home studio and emerged with an album of songs of faith and inspiration.  ALONE WITH MY FAITH, released during the spring of 2021 displays the sheer breadth of Connick’s talents as he wrote new songs, arranged all songs, played every instrument, and sang every voice.

Connick has appeared in 20 feature films with actors such as Sandra Bullock, Hilary Swank, Renée Zellweger, Sigourney Weaver, and Morgan Freeman.  His work on television includes starring roles on Will and Grace, South Pacific and American Idol.  He recently hosted the CBS Special UNITED WE SING: A GRAMMY® TRIBUTE TO THE UNSUNG HEROES, honoring essential workers in the pandemic.  In 2016, he launched Harry, a national daytime television show, which earned 11 Daytime Emmy nominations, including nominations for best host, and a Critics’ Choice nomination for best talk show.  On Broadway, Connick received Tony nominations as both a lead actor in The Pajama Game and as a composer/lyricist for Thou Shalt Not.

Despite his busy career, Connick has always found the time to be charitable and has done some of his most important work in his efforts to help New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. He, along with friend Branford Marsalis, conceived of “Musicians’ Village,” and its centerpiece the Ellis Marsalis Center.  Musicians’ Village provides homes for Katrina-displaced musicians while the Center uses music as its focal point of a holistic strategy to deliver a broad range of services to underserved children, youth and musicians from neighborhoods battling poverty and social injustice.

Connick’s honors, including a star on the celebrated Hollywood Walk of Fame as part of the 2019 class of Honorees, induction into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame, Honorary Doctorates from Tulane and Loyola Universities and the Jefferson Award for Public Service, have not led Harry Connick, Jr. to slow his creative pace; they only confirm his determination to apply his talents in ways that prove inspirational to other artists and publicly spirited citizens.

Great show, 2 hours of entertainment. Excellent interaction with the audience. The curtain call was 3 songs, not just one. Only negative was, I was hoping for more new material. I would recommend his show to anyone over 30.

    What a great entertainer!

by 805Rob on 1/27/10Arlington Theatre - Santa Barbara

This was the 5th time I've seen Harry in concert and once again he delivers a great show. His style is smooth, his voice is top notch, and he always talks with the audience like you were in his backyard. Whenever and wherever he's in concert make it a point to check out his show. It's always worth the price of admission!

    Harry--Oh----Harry

by Ksen on 1/27/10Arlington Theatre - Santa Barbara

Great performance. I have been going to Harry's concerts around the southland and particularly the Arlington for his last 6 dates here. He just keeps getting better. Last night's show didn't fail to get the crowd swinging with him and his band. Harry's voice seems better than ever, and his piano playing and the New Orleans piano is the ultimate best. It really got the audience snapping and clapping with the beat. Harry is always personable, warm, and draws his audience into his "misic room" with him. He quickly establishes a rapport with audience members., playing off any unusual "talents". He encourages unique audience participation at most every show and this always creates some memorable moments. The Arlington is a great venue -----------but, permitting popcorn and other snack items into the perfomance hall needs to be evaluated. Crackling popcorn and having to smell nachos all through the performance was almost nauseating. I don't recall them allowing ffod during the performance before. I highly recommend Harry's concerts to anyone who enjoys good music, and intimate setting created by the artist, and all music. No fireworks, but some great lighting effects. By the way, Harry can shimmy with the best of them !

Harry Connick and Orchestra are unbelievable!

by Bellasma on 1/27/10Arlington Theatre - Santa Barbara

Connick is hysterically funny and talented beyond belief! He has a great rapport with the audience as well as with his orchestra, although I felt badly for the string section during the second half of the show - they must have been bored. I was impressed with the performances and with the venue (Arlington Theater in SB), lighting was very well done. These musicians are absolutely incredible!!!!!!!! Harry added a racy lyric to St. James Infirmary, giving himself the giggles to the point where he almost could not get through the next few lines of the song - hilarious! He talked just enough with the audience, made a connection without leaving you wondering when he would start singing and playing again. Bravo!

    Harry was SPECTACULAR!!!

by clorud on 1/27/10Arlington Theatre - Santa Barbara

I started loving Harry Connick when I was 28. I was introduced to him by one of my "artsy" friends and have followed his career ever since! He has always been one of the most talented musicians out there, (in my opinion), and to top it off not only does he put on a SENSATIONAL show... but his personality is ONE IN A MILLION! I am continually smiling and laughing when I see him live! And if it weren't for Jill... I would have chased him down till he finally married me! (hehe)

Harry Connick Jr was too much fun

by AngelaB21 on 1/27/10Arlington Theatre - Santa Barbara

This was our first time going to see Harry Connick Jr. I loved him on "Will and Grace" and have seen him sing on a few shows, but really didn't know too much about his music- just that he is a very good looking guy. His show was great! His voice is amazing and his orchestra was wonderful. He was too funny, very entertaining and nice to look at too. His songs remind me of my dad. I would definitely go to see him again! I'll be buying his new CD on my way home tonight. Thank you, Harry, for a wonderful night.

    My new favorite entertainer!!!

by Hudyw on 1/27/10Arlington Theatre - Santa Barbara

A great concert! Harry and his band were wonderful! Especially loved the New Orleans music. They really got down! And he comes across so warm, and real, and funny while on stage, he seems like someone I would love to have as a friend. One negative - The trombone player, although very, very good, and entertaining, we felt was allowed to stay center stage too long. Otherwise, we loved it.

Harry was absolutely charming and entertaining!

by Cajunlover on 1/27/10Arlington Theatre - Santa Barbara

What a show! Between the ballads, the banter and the New Orleans beat, you couldn't wait to see what Mr. Connick would do next! The smooth voice, the talented supporting band, and the way he arranged the music, was so thoroughly entertaining that it left me shouting for more. I was lucky enough to go to the stage, look right into those gorgeous eyes, and share my Mardi Gras beads with him right before he ended the show!

    Fantastic Concert

by CaliforniaFanToo on 1/27/10Arlington Theatre - Santa Barbara

Harry and his band were fantastic! A fun show. He interacted with the audience throughout and was his charming, hilarious self. Of course, his band members are amazing musicians. Lucien Barbarin was the highlight of the performance! The sound system was well calibrated and not too loud as is often the case at concerts. The only complaint was that the Theatre allowed the audience to be seated during the performances rather than waiting for breaks in the sets. People were coming and going throughout the concert which was distracting and rude. Harry made light of 4 women in the front row who got up to leave during a ballad, The St. James Infirmary Blues.

Harry Connick Jr. is a Class Act

by MarkG225 on 1/27/10Arlington Theatre - Santa Barbara

I saw Mr. Connick perform a couple years ago at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, and thought he gave a wonderfully engaging and well-orchestrated performance. I don't know if it was the Santa Barbara setting or the Saints making it to the Super Bowl, but he gave a stellar performance above and beyond my expectations. Moreover, he made it obvious that we were all there to have fun. Highly recommend!

    Harry Delivers

by ConnickDelivers on 1/10/10copley hall - san diego

I have seen Harry Connick Jr. every time he comes to San Diego because every minute of each concert was delightful and fun. Whether he appears unaccompanied (with his piano) or with a huge band of his very own talented "misfits" that provide back up singing when asked, Harry demonstrates from the first minute to last, that he is a professional. He is personable and chats with the audience, tells stories and jokes, shows off his amazing skills on the piano, and his voice is as good or better than any others in his field still alive today. Do not miss the chance to see and hear him live if you have never done so before.
