About Harlem Gospel Choir
Harlem Gospel Choir on Tour
Raise your hands and praise the Lord when the Harlem Gospel Choir comes to town. An internationally renowned ensemble known for big voices and an even bigger spirit "inspired by God to be even more inspired," Harlem Gospel Choir packs all the energy of a mass choir into a nine-piece ensemble that includes two roof-raising contraltos and four titanic tenors. Expect an energetic night of hand-clapping, foot-stomping excitement as the choir performs a repertoire that includes gospel hits both old and new, traditional music and the occasional pop hit. The choir has toured extensively across the United States and abroad, becoming the first American gospel group to perform in Australia, New Zealand, China, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Samoa, Thailand, Burma and Morocco. They have performed for three Presidents (Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter and Nelson Mandela), two Popes (John Paul II and Benedict XVI) and the United Nations General Assembly. And they have recorded with Keith Richards, the Chieftains and Trace Adkins, among many others.
About Harlem Gospel Choir
Entertainment-industry veteran Allen Bailey formed Harlem Gospel Choir on January 15, 1986, which also happens to be Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. The choir's nine-piece touring groups, accompanied by two instrumentalists on drums and keyboards, draw from a pool of some 40 members. They divide and conquer by touring the world while maintaining an all-you-can-eat Sunday-brunch residency at Sony Hall in Manhattan's Times Square. A typical show includes Kurt Carr's "In the Sanctuary," Israel Houghton's "You Are Good" and Kirk Franklin's high-octane "Looking for You," along with gospel standards such as "Oh Happy Day" and "Amazing Grace." The choir also does astounding things with Beyoncé's "Halo" and traditional numbers such as "When the Saints Go Marching In" and "Every Time I Feel the Spirit." As Allen Bailey modestly told Ohio State University's The Lantern about this tuneful spiritual vessel, "We only have one superstar in this group and that's Jesus Christ, superstar."
A fun and great experience. Great show, great hosts, great service, good food! We really recommend to visit Sony Hall and Harlem gospel Choir.
Great food and the entertainment itself was decent but let’s not kid on. 5 singers doesn’t make a choir
A must see show! Very engaging. Fun. I'll definitely see them again.
A wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Uplifting, fun, wonderful performances, great venue and delicious brunch. Go to this show as soon as you can!
The theater is beautiful. Impressed by how clean and colorful it is. Greeters were friendly and accommodating. Great sound system. I will return.
Don't miss seeing the Harlem Gospel Choir if you have the opportunity. The shows are so much fun. Even on your worst day, you'll leave the theater feeling uplifted.
The Harlem Choir had the soldout Columbus crowd dancing in the aisles! Few patrons could sit still as the gospel song beat rocked the auditorium from start to finish. The choir members took turns as featured performer; each one giving their awesome contribution to the hit packed evening. Thank goodness they gave the audience several breaks or their would have been cardiac alerts across excitable attendees. Mercy, mercy!!
Whereas I enjoyed the performance I felt a bit let down by the lack of traditional gospel music which is what I was expecting and really wanted to hear. My personal feeling was the group, although entertaining, left me feeling a bit disappointed without a real focus on moving gospel music that I love and enjoy. Rather, it was an amalgamation of uptempo modernly written gospel songs and rock music. I realize this is a trend to modernize gospel music with percussion and loud instrumental accompaniment. But it is not my preference. This could have been remedied by the inclusion of more traditional soul searching gospel music and then supplemented by some of the modernized versions. Otherwise, yes the show was somewhat entertaining but the modernization of traditional moving and heart rendering soulful gospel music simply was not my cup of tea. Meanwhile, our seats were perfect for viewing the performance.
This nine member group raised the roof with a combination of traditional gospel favorites and contemporary selections that also fit the program. Their combination of harmonies with the two person backup band brought to life a praise-worthy set of wonderful songs. They had the audience clapping and up and dancing throughout the evening.
the choir was excellent . High energy, fun and amazing singing. food was good. venue was beautiful. staff was friendly. had a great time time! would definitely go again.
I enjoyed the Choir. However, the performance was only about one hour long. It was over shortly after it started! They should really extend it to at least two hours..
Harlem Gospel Choir amazing!! A nice Sunday with their beautiful songs
Brought these tickets for Mother's Day, and was expecting actual brunch/lunch type of food. Sadly the food was terrible, there were only sides for example, sweet potatoes, hash browns, bacon, sausage and mini muffins. There was no food of substance there was a sign listed for fried cod fish but inside the container was mushrooms in some sort of gravy. I've done this brunch before and in the past they've had chicken wings, french toast, and other entree type elements. The show was only an hour long but the music was good. The space seemed like a dirty night club that hadn't been cleaned since the night before.
Wonderful, spirit filled and lovely Mothers Day Brunch ... Very very nice and very on point
The Atomosphere and Staff was Amazing! The only thing that took me by surprise was the Venue apparently was out of the Fish that Complimented the Amazing Grits. Although they substituted with French Toast, it was a bit of a disappointment. However, I appreciate that they had each Station labeled. The ambiance was truly amazing...
Great show, interaction with the crowd, uplifting music and great talent! All of them stayed after the show for pics and light discussion. We loved it!!
The Harlem Gospel has beautiful voices, great energy, uplifting music. Not the traditional big gospel choir but they have amazing soloists.
The show was fab, they get the audience involved, the singing was amazing
Easter brunch was really really bad. Food was unidentifiable. Lights were low to hide filth. Entertainment was laughable.
We went to a Good Friday Matinee Show with Harlem Gospel Choir at the B. B. King and this was simply just amazing. The place was perfect and the Choir was perfect :D You cannot be anything else but Happy after attending a show like this!!! Go - and enjoy.......
