About Harlem Gospel Choir

Harlem Gospel Choir on Tour

Raise your hands and praise the Lord when the Harlem Gospel Choir comes to town. An internationally renowned ensemble known for big voices and an even bigger spirit "inspired by God to be even more inspired," Harlem Gospel Choir packs all the energy of a mass choir into a nine-piece ensemble that includes two roof-raising contraltos and four titanic tenors. Expect an energetic night of hand-clapping, foot-stomping excitement as the choir performs a repertoire that includes gospel hits both old and new, traditional music and the occasional pop hit. The choir has toured extensively across the United States and abroad, becoming the first American gospel group to perform in Australia, New Zealand, China, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Samoa, Thailand, Burma and Morocco. They have performed for three Presidents (Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter and Nelson Mandela), two Popes (John Paul II and Benedict XVI) and the United Nations General Assembly. And they have recorded with Keith Richards, the Chieftains and Trace Adkins, among many others.

About Harlem Gospel Choir

Entertainment-industry veteran Allen Bailey formed Harlem Gospel Choir on January 15, 1986, which also happens to be Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. The choir's nine-piece touring groups, accompanied by two instrumentalists on drums and keyboards, draw from a pool of some 40 members. They divide and conquer by touring the world while maintaining an all-you-can-eat Sunday-brunch residency at Sony Hall in Manhattan's Times Square. A typical show includes Kurt Carr's "In the Sanctuary," Israel Houghton's "You Are Good" and Kirk Franklin's high-octane "Looking for You," along with gospel standards such as "Oh Happy Day" and "Amazing Grace." The choir also does astounding things with Beyoncé's "Halo" and traditional numbers such as "When the Saints Go Marching In" and "Every Time I Feel the Spirit." As Allen Bailey modestly told Ohio State University's The Lantern about this tuneful spiritual vessel, "We only have one superstar in this group and that's Jesus Christ, superstar."

  • Just Okay

I expected more! The songs were all similar in beat. The show was shorter than expected. Food and drinks were overpriced. $8 for hot tea.

  • The best!

by LladyKing on 1/7/23Sony Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome! My son sent me tickets as a Christmas gift. I was a little reluctant because I live out on the Island but I took the train in (LIRR). The place was pact, standing room only they said but I was seated. The food was great but the group made my New Year! The best way by far to start the New Year, praising my Lord! Each singer did their very best. You can tell they are well seasoned. each one, full of joy and anointed to minister through song for someone like me who needed to hear God in the performance. I am still happy and full of joy! May they continue to perform and bring joy to people. What a nice place for an event also!

  • Glorious uplifting event

Just what the doctor ordered for the beginning of a new year!!

  • Christmas Eve treat

    by Kav’s on 12/28/22Sony Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

What a performance (V.O.I.C.E.S!!!!!), just wow! Would have given this a 5 star had it not lost its way half way through at the Christmas carol medley. I don’t think LaToya wanted to sing and it fell flat for a few songs. Absolutely the best gospel either side of this and the crowd (& us) were up and whooping. Great venue x

  • Wow!

We went Christmas Day, and it was perfect. So many great songs, so much spirit. Would definitely do again. 🥰

  • Great performance for Christmas Eve!

I booked a VIP section to watch the Harlem choir and it was so worth it, great seating, and dining, and of course, the songs from the choir were awesomely sung, they had us on our feet clapping along during the performance which made for a great way to had spent the night before Christmas listening to Gospel music!

  • Show was great, but some tables were too close.

by Ronnie on 5/11/22Sony Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Tea and coffee should have been on menu since there were some dessert. Space should have been in between the tables in front of stage.

  • Great performance

by mtm on 4/21/22Sony Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the performance and the space of Sony Hall. Only Could be improved next time is that the music (drum) was too loud so we couldn’t hear the voices of the singers that well.

  • Not what we were expecting

by Finex on 4/21/22Sony Hall - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

Forget the classical Gospel choir. Just a tourist trap. Sony hall super crowded: a mess of tables and chairs where junk food and drinks are served during the 1.5 hours waiting time, before show start. Never again.
