About

Hannah Gadsby has been a comedian for more than a decade but it was 2018 when the world took notice when their ground breaking comedy special launched on Netflix and stopped the comedy world in its tracks.

Nanette earned Hannah an Emmy, a Peabody, an Australian Academy Award, and the Most Outstanding Show awards at both the Melbourne Comedy Festival and Edinburgh Fringe. Since then, Hannah did two more solo stand-up comedy shows which toured the world - selling out houses across the USA, Australia and Europe, including the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Festival Hall, the Kennedy Centre, the London Palladium and the Opera House at BAM.

Hannah's second Netflix special, Douglas launched in 2020, and their third, Something Special landed on Netflix May 2023. Douglas was nominated for an Emmy and won an Australian Academy Award as did Something Special.

In 2022, they also managed to publish their New York Times Best Selling memoir, Ten Steps To Nanette in more than ten languages, chatted with the likes of Colbert and Fallon and hosted a gala at the Montreal Just For Laughs comedy festival.

Hannah also co-curated an exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, taking part in the global celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Picasso's death featuring works from the Musée Picasso in Paris alongside those from the Brooklyn Museum's Feminist Art Collection.

Hannah's fourth special with Netflix was recorded in 2023 and launched in 2024, recorded in London, the Gender Agenda bought together gender queer comedians from around the world.

    Amazing show

    by Fight4Rrights on 7/18/22Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

Once again Hannah Gadsby proved she is an incredible storyteller, who entertains with humor, truth & insight. Felt like she took me on an adventure, with her intricately woven narrative. I wasn’t sure where we were going, but enjoyed every minute of it, and in the end it all made sense! My first experience with having my cellphone “locked up” in a secure device, went fine—theater had adequate staff to secure phones on entry (though lobby space a bit tight for that), and seamlessly unlock the neoprene type bags at exit. Definitely GO to this amazing show!!

    Funny

by O3SHELLY on 7/17/22The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Hannah Gadsby show was hilarious! Hands down would recommend. The theater was nice except for the first hour we were there it was unexplainably smoky?? Not sure if they had an issue with the popcorn they were selling or what but it took awhile for the smoke to dissipate. It was disappointing that the city of Chicago and the Chicago Theater did not require masking at this event. While I wore a mask very few individuals did which was uncomfortable. Overall a good experience and a great show.

    Miserable experience

by Joan on 7/17/22The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

This was the most poorly organized evening of so-called entertainment that I have ever attempted to attend by the time we realize that the doors hadn't open and thousands of people were trying to get in and we had to lock up our phones which meant delays on the other side I realize that we were going to be hours later than I had told our babysitter we were going to be. We ended up walking away without seeing the show. The doors didn't open until the time the show was supposed to start it was a nightmare it was a mess.

by Dave V on 7/16/22The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Just a fun show. There were lots of jokes about relationships and love. Fun opener. Hannah delivered a comedy show that made me laugh hard and long. Just a lot of fun.

Been waiting 2 years to see her live

by Straight white girl on 7/16/22The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Brought a guy friend and we both laughed til we cried. Hannah is, by far, one of the best comedians in the world right now. I share her Netflix specials with all my friends. Cannot wait to share this one when it comes out (if it does). She leaves you wanting more while making comedic points that hit home in just the right way. Thank you!!

    Great show, Bad sound system

by Mark in Kentucky on 7/16/22The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

We loved Hannah G and her generous show (90+ minutes). However we really struggled to hear her through the muddled sound system at the Chicago Theater. We sat near the front of the balcony/boxes, been there several times before, but this show was so hard to hear. Several folks around us said the same thing.

    Masterful

by DJ on 7/16/22The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Gadsby is a masterful storyteller who takes the audience on a journey. Body of Work is funny, yes, in a witty, gruesome way that is strangely wholesome at heart.

    Good but….

by ComedyLover on 7/16/22The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Do you know how it is when you see something art or handicrafts that you can tell took a lot of skill but it’s not your taste? That’s Hannah’s humor. Mostly it was very funny but for a “feel good” show it had dark moments, very dark and they pretty much ruined the evening for me. Technically there were issues with her delivery. Her accent isn’t strong but it’s strong enough that when she talks fast in a crowded auditorium it’s easy to miss what she says. Also her timing was off. She frequently started talking before the audience had stopped laughing at the prior joke and the first three or four words were lost. Combine that with my other observation and you can miss a lot.

    Hannah was great!

by m rose on 7/16/22The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

She is so clever! Throughout the show we get laughs and then in the end she wraps everything up and ties it with a bow. Loved it!! Only negative was all the audience members getting up to leave and return throughout the entire show! So rude! to Hannah and to us. Ugh

    Terrible audio in the hall

by NG on 7/12/22Massey Hall - Toronto

LOVE Hannah Gadsby! So much that I booked my ticket nearly 9 months in advance. The seats I had picked were in a balcony not very far from the stage; I had a clear view of Gadsby. But the audio in Massey Hall was terrible! I couldn't hear any of the jokes and I wasn't the only one to feel this way. Most people in my section (209) were practically silent when the whole theatre seemed to be constantly erupting in laughter. So I'm sure Gadsby was great, as always. I was constantly thinking, I can't wait to watch this on Netflix so I could actually properly hear what she was saying. Decided to leave within 20 mins of the show's start, and as I made my way to the exit through another section of the audience, I could actually understand every word! Massey Hall needs to stop selling tickets to the sections with bad audio, or better still, FIX their audio issues. Extremely disappointed.

    An OK show.

by BT on 7/12/22Massey Hall - Toronto

I was super excited about this year's show as I had attended a show of Hannah's before pandemic started. But I was utterly disappointed. This one literally felt like a family saga shoved into standup in the hopes that it comes out funny. I don't think I got my money's worth, but c'est la vie. I will not return for a Hannah Gadsby show.

    Good show, logistics need work

by AB on 7/8/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

This was a good show from one of our best comics! However, I didn't appreciate the cumbersome phone confiscation and bag search process, which resulted in long lines getting in and out. We arrived super early because we were told this was necessary due to the artist's anti-phone rules, and then the show still started super late even after everyone appeared to have completed the process. I'm pretty sure we spent more time waiting around than the length of the show itself, which isn't ideal.

    Funniest show I've been to.

by dnimura on 7/6/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Hilarious material, combined w/perfect timing and delivery. Topical issues addressed at the top of the show (Roe repeal had just occurred) and then her regular material. I would see her again.

This was the perfect event for two sets of moms to enjoy a night out during pride weekend. Everything looped together so perfectly at the end and away I was not expecting.

    Hilarious & cathartic

by Steph on 6/28/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Hannah Gadsby brought her usual meta commentary to her comedy but promised a feel good show and it really was (for the most part!) she helped us all process and laugh at our pain right after then roe v wade reversal, a tough topic to riff on. The venue was comfortable - good seats and chairs and accessible from what I saw. We had to put our phones in locked yonder bags which was fine and we could get them opened if needed. My partner was irked that we were told to get there at 6 as the show started promptly at 7 then didn’t actually start till 730. I wasn’t as bothered by this but we did end up sitting around for a long time waiting for the show to start. Totally worth it imo and there was food and drinks for sale at the venue (plus Gadsby’s new book!)
