Great costumes, great dancing and great characterization!
Although it did start late, the production more than made up for it. It was a fun night filled with some of my favorite songs from the movie. I was toe tapping and clapping. Well done.
The show started almost an hour late. Although, staff told us they were ony 15 minutes we waited for almost an additional 45 minutes without any updates. If they had started any later I would've left and asked to go to another show. Otherwise the show was fine.
I got an email the night before that the show was cancelled with no explanation. I bought these tickets months ago and was excited to go but WOW! TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED!
Really enjoyed the play. The lead who played TracyTurnblad,Erin Metz, was a terrific Tracy. She has a great voice & was perfect for this part. Really loved the kid who played Seaweed. He is a fun person to watch on stage. Wasn't real thrilled with the character of Link.
Enjoyed the energy and acting in the show. Characters were accessible and likable. Voices were perfect- singing flowed and was on pitch. Costumes for main character were not as engaging as I would have liked. Set was sparse and could have had more detail and depth. Sound and lighting were perfect.
Awesome! I would recommend this to people of all ages.
What a great show! The music, dancing and acting were A+! Loved the energy from the cast members.
After missing the show in Hollywood because we got lost and they would not allow anyone in after the start time. I lost out on the cost of the tickets and had a very broken hearted 7 year old granddaughter who was so looking forward to the play; not to mention that it was part of her Christmas gift. So we got tickets to the California Theater production and drove all the way from Ventura county to see the show. We came a day ahead and got a hotel room and made a weekend of it. Wow the performance was so worth the drive. I got to take pictures with my granddaughter and cast members after the show. It was off the charts talent. Her favorite character was Seaweed. We absolutely loved the show, and what a beautiful old theater. I highly recommend the show and the theater.
This was an amazing performance. Every cast member fully embodied the true character they were playing. The singing and dancing were spectacular! I would drive two hours again to see this group.
Not to the level of expectations for the ticket price. Too many iendos. Was uncomfortable taking a friend's teen with us.
Food, Fun, Music, Fabulous! Toby's was so fun, the show was as good as Broadway, no kidding! The actors and actresses are phenomenal, their voices bring goosebumps and tears. The show was the quintessential Baltimore homage for a first time visitor. We'll be back, for sure!!
The Port Huron community performers all seemed to enjoy their time to shine in this production. I enjoyed seeing the enthusiasm a few of the cast showed through their performance. Tracy was the star, and I really enjoyed Penny too. A few actors forgot words more than once, and there were sound problems throughout the performance. Luckily we were close enough to somewhat hear when the headsets would stop working. Unless you have a family member or friend in this production, you would probably want to skip it since this is not a professional production of this tour. Had I know I would not have purchased tickets. The venue was a little run down, cramped seats and it was extremely hot in there.
This was my first musical, and I am glad we picked this one. The food seemed rushed as did drinks and was kind of spotty service due to the waiters being the same people as the cast (not sure if this is typical), but when the show started that was all but forgotten. The show was very well done and the cast was amazing vocally and visually. I enjoyed the closeness of it all, and it cannot be touched by a movie or television. Will definitely be returning to another show! Support performing arts!
The team at Toby's did such a great job on this production. We had so much fun and loved the play!
Tonight we saw Hairspray. I've never seen a show that made me want to get up and join cast immediately and, trust me, I would if I lived closer. My husband and I drove over an hour to see this show and it was definitely worth it. The cast was amazing. The orchestra was phenomenal. Don't walk, run to see this show. You won't regret it. Try the show cocktail. It's delicious and comes with a take home memorable glass.
Good show lots of music and good story line. We had to move our seats from the front of the theater as it was hard to hear the performers over the orchestra. More preferable away from the orchestra.
Fantastic, fun, exciting show! The actors were fabulous!
This was a great production of Hairspray. Awesome cast. Great Job. I will definitely be returning to the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center in the future.
