    Gypsy at the Signature Theatre

    by Susie9 on 12/27/13Signature Theatre - Arlington

It's a great vehicle with wonderful music so...the backbone is all there. But, there was a lot more, I am happy to say. The orchestra was strong, as were all of the performances, particularly Mama Rose. I was also very impressed with the staging---extremely well done. I love the size of the theatre and the intermission space is wonderful. Great venue, super event.

    Gypsy Was Spectacular

    by 0630 on 12/25/13Signature Theatre - Arlington

As a stage veteran of some 60 dramas, musicals and revues in community theater, I am familiar with the difference between good ensemble play and diva acting. Gypsy was so satisfying in this regard that I was emotional at curtain and sprang to my feet. Everyone in the cast is commended for being true to character at all times. The leads, especially, did not take away from the supporting cast turns, but supported them. Bravo! Voices, staging, even scene-changing were spot on. My wife and I have seen a number of Signature Theater productions, all great, but this Gypsy will stand out as the best. Thank you.

    Gypsy was Incredible

    by 4olivia on 12/22/13Signature Theatre - Arlington

I knew the story of Gypsy and my friend did not.. The actor playing the mother was just wonderful. She was totally in character and very intense. She was totally Rosalind Russell from the movie. All of the roles were very well cast. Herbie was sweet and loving-totally the opposite of the mother. The mother was determined to make a daughter a star because she had done nothing with her life. And she will run over anyone who gets in her way. Excellent production. Highly recommend it.
