My daughter has been in ballet for a year now and I thought this would be good for her to see. She loved it. I also thought it was very well done. I just think that I was looking for a more professional performance like could be seen at the Fox.

Gwinnett Nutcracker - A Family Affair

by Daremo on 12/10/12Gwinnett Performing Arts Center - Duluth

The Saturday matinee was, as expected, packed with entire families in attendance. The performers were, in general, quite good. The orchestra was outstanding - especially considering they were performing in a county Performing Arts Center and not a concert hall in a major metropolitan city. Unfortunately, many families in attendance decided to bring children who could not, or would not behave. The child sitting next to my wife played with a video game and talked during the entire performance. These families, presumably to encourage their favorite performers, applauded at inappropriate times during the performance. There was no announcement by the venue to shut off electronic devices, and there was no enforcement by the staff against videotaping the prerformance, so I had the pleasure of having a video monitoring screen from the recording device in use by the woman in front of me shining in my face at various times during the performance. The behavior of the audience really detracted from my enjoyment of the performance.

    Fabulous!

by Nursenoelholly on 12/10/12Gwinnett Performing Arts Center - Duluth

My husband and I took our two girls, age 6 and 4 to this performance, their first ballet experience. It was very kid friendly but I wasn't,t expecting it to be as mature and pleasing for adults too. Wonderful sets, costumes, and of course, really top calibre dancing! I was amazed most of the cast was high school age or younger, they were very talented ballerinas, with a few professionals as support cast. We had great seats, 5 th row, which we couldn't,t have afforded at the Fox ( Atlanta ballet) by any means. A extra treat was to meet some of the dancers in the lobby after the performance. My girls were mesmerized the entire time, seeing the joy and delight their faces was priceless! Thank you, Gwinnett ballet!

    Fantastic and Fun

by PSGal2012 on 12/4/12Gwinnett Performing Arts Center - Duluth

My daughter and I went to the Dec 2nd show. Last year we saw the Nutcracker at the Fabulous Fox, so I was expecting much less than what I got. Whereas the show was not the same caliber as the Fox, it was every bit as enjoyable. Actually, in many ways, we liked it more. The performers were MAGNIFICENT. The theatre is intimate, and there are no bad seats. Overall, this was a great show, and I would definitely recommend it. It is a totally different experience than the Fox, but every bit as wonderful! Go see it. You won't be sorry!

    Tradition for family

by Ditbean on 12/2/12Gwinnett Performing Arts Center - Duluth

We wanted to begin a holiday family tradition with our little girls. This fit the bill, affordable and amazing for the whole family. My girls are 4 and 6 - couldn't keep their eyes off the stage! All the company dancers are so incredibly talented! The dancing is fantastic, felt like I was at a Broadway production! Stage sets, design, details, costumes, orchestra music - everything was absolute perfection. We will go back year after year. Don't forget to browse the goodies for sale - nutcrackers and ballerinas!

    Nutcracker by semi-professionals

by Fishlady2233 on 12/21/11Gwinnett Performing Arts Center - Duluth

The good: the sets were quite lovely, the magic tricks amazing, the costumes very nice, the orchestra wonderful. The bad: this was a production by young ballet students, along with a couple of professional dancers. The majority of the participants in this production were children, which I found disturbing, as the less developed among them were very much off-beat and out of sync with the music and one another.. I suppose The Nutcracker must a couple of children, but I came expecting top-rate, spectacular ballet from primarily professional adult dancers. Perhaps my expectations were askew because I was unfamiliar with what the Gwinnett Ballet actually is, which would be my fault. At any rate, the performance, while very good overall, was not the professional production I expected to see for the price of the tickets I purchased.

    Nutcracker was GREAT

by PleasantlySuprised on 12/21/11Gwinnett Performing Arts Center - Duluth

A friend of ours at work recommended we see this because her daughter was in the production. My wife and I were expecting a cute high school quality type production and went with reserved expectations. What a shock! The production was EXCELLENT. Live orchestra, exceptionally talented dancers (especially those featured in the Second Act), and a beautiful stage. We will definitely come next year! The performers met with the audience after the show in the lobby and signed autographs. They look bigger and older on stage! Amazing talent and poise from local middle school and high school girls!

    The Nutcracker

by TNorcross on 12/19/11Gwinnett Performing Arts Center - Duluth

This is a great venue; our seats were perfect. I chose it for my 6-year-olds first ballet experience, and it was perfect for that. I was a little disappointed in the caliber of the dancers and choreography, but I think my expectations were too high.

    Wonderful performance

by sadxlies on 12/19/11Gwinnett Performing Arts Center - Duluth

I took my mum to see the Nutcracker as one of her Christmas present's and she very much enjoyed it and so did I. We had wonderful seats up in the balcony we were able to see the whole stage, which i think is better then being closer. The live orchestra that was playing was also very good, that was the first time that I had experienced live music along with a ballet performance and it was very well worth it. We both enjoyed it so much so we are planning to attend another performance held there very soon!
