GWAR IN CONCERT:
When it comes to gory thrash metal spectacle, no other band even comes close to the sick and twisted monstrosity that is GWAR. Taking the stage in gruesomely excellent costumes, the band executes their hilarious metal send-ups with a faux-macabre pageantry that approaches the divine, sacrificing celebrity effigies on stage and dousing entire audiences in fake blood. Whether they're unleashing "The New Plague" or demanding that "Zombies, March!", GWAR put on a show like no other act on earth, and despite longtime frontman David Brockie's recent passing the ever-dedicated band still plans to treat fans to select shows in 2014.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in Virginia in 1984, GWAR developed an early following with their costumed, prop-filled, spectacle-heavy take on thrash metal. Simultaneously embracing and poking fun at the genre's extremes, the band struck a chord with audiences looking to indulge in metal's excesses without taking them too seriously. Their 1988 debut LP Hell-O was a huge hit in Germany, with subsequent albums like Carnival of Chaos (1997) and We Kill Everything (1999) enjoying considerable success in the US. Over the years, they've landed songs with titles like "Endless Apocalypse" and "War Is All We Know" on charts around the world, an impressive feat for a group of guys who claim the destruction of the human race as their primary goal. In early 2014, GWAR frontman David Brockie was found dead from unknown causes. In a show of tremendous fortitude and strength, the band announced several David Brockie memorial events and still plans to appear at select events throughout the year. Over the course of their career, GWAR have packed venues such as Irving Plaza (NYC), and the Depot (Salt Lake City).
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Gwar rocked, it was fun, the crowd was definitely into it. The pageantry was definitely funny and fun. Be prepared to get covered in blood..."
"If you like metal and have a sick sense of humor, go see them. What a festival of blood, theatrics, and crisply played thrash metal. GWAR was a complete spectacle ."
"GWAR nailed it. Theatrics were well balanced; new album cut is sick. Eagerly awaiting the next show."
The place nice and clean and the performance amazing
I love Bogart's and I love GWAR! Great show as always!
I’ve been seeing Gwar shows for almost 30 years and they never disappoint.
The seats upstairs were kush, too kush, I fell asleep halfway thru the show.. Been working allot nothing against their performance bc I loved it they sounded great. Little alien fella was a little d**k.Shirts where cheap the tenders did an amazing job as well on my drinks . Bogarts get Bombay Gin or Tangarey plz n Ty.. Best friend since 7 had the time of his life it was a great night over all…
Ive seen many a show in my day but this was hands down one of the best!!! To say they put on a hell of a show would be the understatement of the century! Gwar was absolutely AMAZING!!
Been seeing this band since spring of 89. This show was so good and the band played amazingly! Where else are you going to see a supreme court justice get an abortion with a plunger to some well crafted metal!
Came exclusively for Nekrogoblikon, was pleasantly surprised by Crobot's performance! I didn't stay for GWAR due to having work the next day, but great performance from both Crobot and Nekrogoblikon. Very fun and theatrical.
Gwar is the greatest intergalactic metal band ever. Murdering and eviscerating celebrities, presidents and Supreme Court justices. They always put on a great and entertaining show.
Gwar puts on such an amazing show, and the Knitting Factory always hosts good shows. Would recommend this GWAR tour to anyone - unless you're easily offended or a neat freak who doesn't want BLOOD! I'm just glad I'm not on the cleaning staff at the KF.... That place looked destroyed when the show was over. Can't wait to do it again next year!
Enjoyed all 3 bands, Nekrogoblikon, Crobot, and of course, GWAR. Was able to establish a spot up near the rail in front to thoroughly enjoy the whole GWAR experience, after nearly 30 years from last seeing one of their shows and was not disappointed. Left the venue completely drenched in "blood" and all the other "alien and bodily fluids," after fully enjoying and appreciating every skin tearing, limb ripping, and decapitation the show produced. 10/10 would definitely go see them again, especially in a smaller venue setting such as The Depot.
always a good time It is a really fun show this is a haiku
GWAR exceeded my expectations. Kudos to Depot for making it a 21+ show! I loved every part of my experience.
Never been to a GWAR so before. The opening bands kicked ass and the energy of GWAR was intense. Bring clothes you don't care about and give into the energy. This show was a show to remember and I will be going again.
I never miss a GWAR show!!! But please GWAR if you see these, please show the left side more love with being sprayed! I normally leave the show drenched and love it, but this time I was really close on the left and didn't leave drenched but still loved the show!!! It was the 1st time my son was able to make it to the show and he is now hooked and can't wait for them to come back again!!!
Absolute best time! Would go again 100 times, 100 years! Hail Gwar! Operners were fantastic, great small venue loads of fun!
There is no live show like Gwar. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting ruined and get close. It’s an amazingly fun experience.
It was my first time seeing GWAR and it was MIND BLOWING!!! So rad with the gory effects and the costumes are fantastic!!!! Getting soaked with the fake blood and stuff was really fun!!!
Gwar was awesome but mobile tickets are horrible but paper tickets are way better it gives the person attending a souvenir from the show.
Greatest show ever. Not for everyone but can’t beat them. It is a spectacle to behold. Satire to the max
First time seeing them in concert. Best experience ever. The comedy and props and death and blood on stage and blood all over myself. Best night ever.
