About

GWAR IN CONCERT:

When it comes to gory thrash metal spectacle, no other band even comes close to the sick and twisted monstrosity that is GWAR. Taking the stage in gruesomely excellent costumes, the band executes their hilarious metal send-ups with a faux-macabre pageantry that approaches the divine, sacrificing celebrity effigies on stage and dousing entire audiences in fake blood. Whether they're unleashing "The New Plague" or demanding that "Zombies, March!", GWAR put on a show like no other act on earth, and despite longtime frontman David Brockie's recent passing the ever-dedicated band still plans to treat fans to select shows in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Virginia in 1984, GWAR developed an early following with their costumed, prop-filled, spectacle-heavy take on thrash metal. Simultaneously embracing and poking fun at the genre's extremes, the band struck a chord with audiences looking to indulge in metal's excesses without taking them too seriously. Their 1988 debut LP Hell-O was a huge hit in Germany, with subsequent albums like Carnival of Chaos (1997) and We Kill Everything (1999) enjoying considerable success in the US. Over the years, they've landed songs with titles like "Endless Apocalypse" and "War Is All We Know" on charts around the world, an impressive feat for a group of guys who claim the destruction of the human race as their primary goal. In early 2014, GWAR frontman David Brockie was found dead from unknown causes. In a show of tremendous fortitude and strength, the band announced several David Brockie memorial events and still plans to appear at select events throughout the year. Over the course of their career, GWAR have packed venues such as Irving Plaza (NYC), and the Depot (Salt Lake City).

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Gwar rocked, it was fun, the crowd was definitely into it. The pageantry was definitely funny and fun. Be prepared to get covered in blood..."

"If you like metal and have a sick sense of humor, go see them. What a festival of blood, theatrics, and crisply played thrash metal. GWAR was a complete spectacle ."

"GWAR nailed it. Theatrics were well balanced; new album cut is sick. Eagerly awaiting the next show."

    Incredible experience!

by Tony on 10/23/23The Blue Note - Columbia

Besides Gwar and their openers straight “killing” at the show, The Blue Note is such a great venue. Great sound, layout, staff, atmosphere, cleanliness, and on and on. Highly recommend Gwar no matter where you are at and I recommend seeing a show at The Blue Note.

    Insane

by Gomega209 on 10/23/23The Blue Note - Columbia

What can I say about this event, it was completely insane and I enjoyed every minute of it, the opening band was nuts, x cops was ok, negative approach was good, but gwar omg gwar was completely insane. I loved it

    Excellent floor show

by Manny on 10/23/23The Blue Note - Columbia

The entire lineup was great. I wish the merch was centralized a little bit more. Having the second table at the top of the stairs made it a little hard to get up to the restroom.

    Caught in the “splash zone”

    by PolishOgre42 on 10/22/23Bogart's - Cincinnati

It’s Gwar. Best experienced in a small-to-mid-size venue. All the bands were amazing. Cancer Christ, X-Cops, and Negative Approach supported. Outstanding.

    Awesome

by Strunky on 10/22/23Bogart's - Cincinnati

I have been wanting to see a GWAR show since I was a teenager but could never work it out. I finally got to see them at 41 years old and they did not disappoint. The openers were excellent as well. Bogarts has always been a great place to see a show. It’s a smaller venue so there isn’t a bad view anywhere in the place. It was an amazing show and I’ll never forget it

    Great show

by Bryant on 10/16/23Palladium Times Square - New York City

GWAR is awesome, they always put on a great show. It was nice having seats for the show, usually I’m standing, I’m getting too old for that.

It was fun. Really... You should check it out. Apparently I need at least 50 characters or this doesn't count.

Was at the pine knob show and was in the pit watch out or you’ll be sprayed but overall the show and experience was worth it.

simply as good as it gets

    by jillian shea on 8/8/23

my favorite band for many reasons, their music is phenomenal and their performances are incredible every time. after dave, gwar has still managed to keep their sound as well as their onstage presence. i will never miss a gwar show, when they are performing in kansas city, i will be there every time. gwar live is an experience unlike any other live show.

not the best GWAR show but it’s GWAR

    by Roy Batikar on 11/27/22

I went to go see GWAR with my uncle who is a big fan of GWAR on October 20th at the Masquerade in Atlanta. we stayed in the middle front most of the show and I crowd surfed three times and lost him two of the times. we got sprayed with a lot of fun and had a great time. we also where already big fans of Nekrogoblikon which who was opening up for them. My only complaint would be something that GWAR struggled with for a while for me anyways, just the whole clean not as dirty and less earthy tones thing they’ve been doing for a while. but i get it a solid 4 out of 5.

    GWAR O WEEN

by Jeff on 11/8/22Irving Plaza - New York

Best concert i have ever been to. Definitely going every Halloween forever. Im mad at myself for not going to a gwar show sooner. You will get soaked with fake blood that washes out no problem. Put ur wallet in a ziplock bag. Other than that its a typical metal show with mosh pit, crowd surfing etc so wear proper footwear.

    GWAR and Nekrogoblikon in Baltimore

by Chowdaddy on 11/7/22Baltimore Soundstage - Baltimore

GWAR is one of those bands that have always just kind of have been on my periphery. I had a chance to see them about a year ago and passed. Ever since, I second guessed myself. The time came again and yet I still hesitated. I finally succumbed to my inquisitive nature and bought tickets the week of. I also found out that Nekrogoblikon was playing with them and they were a band I just recently found and started listening to. This was the most entertaining show I have ever been to! I have heard GWAR's music over the decades and watched their videos. I didn't know their live shows were pretty much exactly like their videos. At one point, Nekro's Goblin came out on stage with them and joined in the debauchery. Watching the employees cleaning the floor afterward with giant squigees was a site to see. I highly recommend going to see GWAR. I can't wait til next time!

    Great costume and music

    by Rock’n on 11/6/22Baltimore Soundstage - Baltimore

Love going to GWARshows but this venue is too small. We got tossed around and smashed together. No room for enjoyment. I’d rather go see them at the 930 club or the Fillmore.

gwar studio releases may be average, but their live shows are second to none. Bring your white teeshirt and a change of cloths.

    One word… Legendary!

by PHANTOM NYC on 11/3/22Irving Plaza - New York

One of the most entertaining, creative, ambitious, monstrous, metal band I’ve had the honor to see live!! From their incredible theatrics, sick riffs, lovable creatures and characters, these metal monsters rock! This band is amazing, and deserves every bit of praise, and recognition of their talents, and work ethic to put on one hell of a bloody show. Go see them live!! Period, end of file, no discussion.
