    not bad but not great

by Ogils on 7/14/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

went to see 6 shows on broadway this was by far the weakest one, i know this show very well and have been in a amatuer production of it also. what we paid was very over priced and we found they were much cheaper when we got over to new york. our seats were not great also and had to ask to be moved. the seats are very badly laid out. it has its good points the dancing was great especially the crapshooters but i found the leads a bit bland and singing very weak. i feel they were hired for their "Big" names and not for thier singing or acting.we also waited outside for autographs and everyone was lovely and happy to help but the guy playing sky masterson refused to sign any and conned the 10 people waiting and jumped into a waiting car without even saying hello. one girl ran to get a autograph all he did was stick he hand out through a window and drove off. i know all actors are busy but there must have been 200 peple waiting on the 2 lead girls and they were happy to pose and sign for everyone and have bigger names than him. coming the whole way from ireland this was very disappointing.

Guys & Dolls - Broadway production

by Manny74 on 7/13/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

Interesting use of video and stage sets to effectively recreated the NYC skyline of the period. Craig Bierko as Sky Masterson was well cast both in acting and singing. Choreography was good, although I would have liked to have seen more stylized movements and caricatures for the various street scenes. Also the music for this show is exceptional however the orchestra/musicians seamed to have been muted somewhat. Other characters were generally good . Nicely Nicely's vocal range didn't allow the "Sit down your rocking the boat" number its usual show-stopping impact. Well worth the money.

Guys and Dolls-great fun for everyone!

by BWJ14 on 7/13/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

All leads excellent, especially Adelaide, Sky Masterson and Benny Southstreet...disappointed that there was an understudy for Nathan Detroit. Fast-paced, clever, hilarious writing, Ingenious and very effective use of orchestra. Ensemble was excellent, costumes also. A very enjoyable evening. Thank you everyone!11

    Too bad it's cancelled

by gtjs289 on 7/13/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

This was a very good show.. acting was good, singing was good, dancing was great.. I don't know why the critics were so hard on it.. maybe it took it a little while to hit it's stride. But the show we saw was packed, and the audience seemed to love it. Too bad it got cancelled.. it was a lot of fun.

    Well Worth It!

by KeptWoman on 7/13/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

Went with fairly low expectations...was totally blown away. Lauren Graham was hysterical and Craig Bierko as Sky Masterson was hot, hot, hot! Oliver Platt continually made you laugh. A terrific musical that kept your attention, kept you laughing and kept on giving! Loved it!

    Be Glad It's Now Closed

by predador1 on 7/13/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

Uninspired revival of a classic Broadway musical. If this production tours I urge you to avoid it. Makes me appreciate even more the wonderful revival of about 20 years ago starring Nathan Lane.

    Two thumbs up- Wonderful!

by Janall on 7/13/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

I had never seen this show before and it was really fun. We were initially were a bit disappointed that Olvier Platt's understudy was performing, but he was terrific. Lorin Graham can really sing, and my husband and son enjoyed her skimpy ( but PG rated) costumes. The only odd thing was the Nederlander Theater. We are tall people ( 5'7, 6'3, 6'4 ) and our knees were pressed up against the seat back infront of us. it was worse than flying coach! On the other hand, the small theather, made the performance intimate and everyone had a great view of the stage.

    Stunt casting and little else

by BroadwaybabysMum on 7/13/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

The staging was clever, and the actress who played Sarah Brown could sing. Actually, it was my opinion that she was the only actual Broadway Musical level actor of all the four leads. Lauren Graham as Miss Adelaide was fine. She is a good actress with good comic timing. She hit her notes, but that was it. She could/did not sustain them. At least 4 different people in the lobby before the show were having conversations about how they were coming to see Ms. Graham. A little stunt casting? Not the actor's fault, but all the same... Oliver Platt seemed to be phoning his performance in, walking a crooked line between playing Nathan Detroit for laughs or out of boredom. As other reviews have said, Nicely Nicely was grand, as was the general. Overall, however, this renditon of Guys and Dolls seemed like a very good Amateur production that happened to have a lot of money for costumes and novel staging, as well as for some great dancers. I suppose I should say, to be fair, that I saw the earlier revival with Nathan Lane and an entire cast of BROADWAY actors. Maybe I am just spoiled, but I couldn't help but wonder why this year's revival was even done. Even my 10 year old Broadway fanatic daughter was fairly bored. Instead of sparkling eyes and a renewed determination to make it to the stage, she was very eager to get home.

    Classic

by Saratoga on 7/13/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

Old classics can be classics and can be old. This was a little of each. It wasn't spectacular but it was nostalgic.

Guys and Dolls more than I expected

by SarahsAunt on 7/13/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

My niece really wanted to see this show while Lauren Graham was still performing. We were both big fans of Gilmore Girls. I think we both enjoyed the play more than anticipated. Everyone was in great form for a Tuesday night performance and Lauren just blew us away!
