GUY IN CONCERT:

New jack swing favorites Guy rode a string of R&B hits to fame in the late ‘80s, cementing their status as icons of the genre with their appearance in Mario Van Peebles aptly-titled 1991 film New Jack City. Boasting an impressive catalog of Top 5 R&B classics from their heyday, the group continues to dazzle at their live shows, often touring with other choice era acts like Al B. Sure and Tony! Toni! Tone! On the road again in 2014, Guy is sure to have plenty of booties in the aisles as they treat fans to electric renditions of funky hits like “My Fantasy” and crowd-favorite “I Like.”

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Harlem in 1987, Guy pioneered the burgeoning R&B subgenre new jack swing with their self-titled 1988 debut LP. The album went double platinum on the strength of three Top 5 R&B hits, raising the group’s profile and leading to writing gigs for a variety of artists including Bobby Brown and Boy George. 1990 sophomore LP The Future contained another string of hits, topping the R&B chart and landing the band a featured role in the 1991 gangster classic New Jack City. After a hiatus in the ‘90s, the band reunited for 2000’s Guy III, which contained their biggest pop hit to date with “Dancin’”. Back on tour in 2014, Guy will share the stage with a host of other legendary R&B acts that includes Salt-n-Pepa and El Debarge.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

“Guy was incredible, Aaron and Damian started the show with “I Like!” They snapped, Aaron Hall still has it, he came out his shirt, he pumped the floor on stage, he came out into the crowd and sang “I Miss You”… Finally Teddy Riley hit the stage, the crowd went wild.”

“Guy- great energy…Vocals were good. Showmanship great!”

“Guy was good, Aaron Hall is a character! It was so cool to hear Teddy Riley too!”

The seats were horrible, sat in the front row and had to watch the show from on the monitor. Should have stayed home and watched on YouTube. Left the show early.

    Old school at its best!

    by R. C. on 2/18/19Hampton Coliseum - Hampton

I liked how Teddy Riley brought out the groups. I was expecting to see the original members of Blackstreet. But it was good. All the original members for Guy was there they gave an excellent show. They danced and sung and didn't skip a beat.

    Disorganized

    by Socamonarch87 on 2/18/19Hampton Coliseum - Hampton

We arrived to the show as saw KcI of kci & Jojo perform. He did great his vocals were still on point. However 112 only had one of their original performers from that group and it was out of sync. They just popped out of no where with no introduction and the dances did not flow. The comedian used as the host couldn’t tell when the next act would ever be ready. Teddy Riley took up most of the show and presented guy as well. I was not impressed with guy because those high notes couldn’t be reached. It looked like you were watching a group of men at a karaoke bar. Tony toni tone did not show up which made me feel like I didn’t even get my money worth.

    Needed more GUY!!! GUY!!! GUY!!!

by KrissyKrissy on 2/18/19Hampton Coliseum - Hampton

Great show but couldn’t move about due to tight seating spaces and I was on the fifth row. I wanted to hear more GUY music but all is well. I expected to be called to the stage to dance as well...LMBO! Just kidding! I loved the show and had my own FLASHBACKS of “jamming” when I was much younger but I still got it! It was fun!

This was my third time seeing guy and I must say this was much better than my second time. Aaron y’all looked healthier, he sounded better, had mire energy and just seemed more prepared! The brother was amazing as always. Teddy Riley really outdid himself!! He put on an amazing show and he was clearly the visionary bringing that high energy. It was amazing!!

    Respect II

by TheReamEM on 4/9/18Bankers Fieldhouse - Indianapolis

Another 90s Block party down featuring guy, live from Indianapolis, not going to rehash what I wrote in Respect “ it stands alone”, guy performed a longer set (in indi) from the previous shows I attended and with the addition of more girls, girls girls it pushed the energy up, the crowd was hot, live and appreciative. Comedian Gary 'G. Thang' Johnson, keep it going between sets and also helped entertain and move the crowd. Everyone appeared to enjoy themselves, even Ginuwine watched the other performers from the floor right in front of me partying along with the ones on stage “ He wasn’t Ginuwine at that moment he was a fan. As custom, guy gave out Red Roses to the ladies at the end of the show, Damion also took picture with a few fans. Can’t wait until he puts the NJS tour together. I’ll be there. The Real EM (Eric)

    Respect

by TheReamEM on 3/28/18Several - Richmond, Louisville, Nashville

They’re the Kings of the thing called the New Jack Swing and if there’s a question or a reason to wondering why, just remember the three letters of g u y. Within the past year I’ve attended three of the block party tours featuring guy and have already purchased two more to go. Why because it’s live, the music that Mr. Teddy (Yep yep) Riley has amass over the years not just with guy but a slew of so many others is a living testament to the history in our lives and that of our children too, in concert when Aaron belts out that a lot of babies were made from this music (what I call the “Love Swing”) he wasn’t lying, no BS just the facts. True music lovers more than appreciate every little, ting, ding and strings that TR and guy puts in their work, from TR’s early work with the inspector gadget salute of “the show” to every chuck and bottom bass note from the Keys or the funky percussions, not to mention the masterful remixes, “Do you know what I’m saying” Along with several co works and collaborations with the “Nasty Man” Aaron Hall, There is not enough credit that will be or can be given to guy. Admit it their sound was so clean and tight, the coolest of the cool had to grab a girl and head to the floor. So underrated, so understated. Inclosing my brothers. Real still recognize real and from a grown man to another, Thank you, Aaron, Damion and Teddy…. The Real EM (Eric)

Omg where do I start. The concert was amazing until Aaron Hall opened his mouth. The energy was crazy. Next opened up the show and was amazing. I really love Teddy Riley but He should have brought Blackstreet instead of guy. Guy is done and Aaron needs to retire. His voice is done! Got all hyped up for Guy only to be disappointed.
