GUY IN CONCERT:

New jack swing favorites Guy rode a string of R&B hits to fame in the late ‘80s, cementing their status as icons of the genre with their appearance in Mario Van Peebles aptly-titled 1991 film New Jack City. Boasting an impressive catalog of Top 5 R&B classics from their heyday, the group continues to dazzle at their live shows, often touring with other choice era acts like Al B. Sure and Tony! Toni! Tone! On the road again in 2014, Guy is sure to have plenty of booties in the aisles as they treat fans to electric renditions of funky hits like “My Fantasy” and crowd-favorite “I Like.”

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Harlem in 1987, Guy pioneered the burgeoning R&B subgenre new jack swing with their self-titled 1988 debut LP. The album went double platinum on the strength of three Top 5 R&B hits, raising the group’s profile and leading to writing gigs for a variety of artists including Bobby Brown and Boy George. 1990 sophomore LP The Future contained another string of hits, topping the R&B chart and landing the band a featured role in the 1991 gangster classic New Jack City. After a hiatus in the ‘90s, the band reunited for 2000’s Guy III, which contained their biggest pop hit to date with “Dancin’”. Back on tour in 2014, Guy will share the stage with a host of other legendary R&B acts that includes Salt-n-Pepa and El Debarge.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

“Guy was incredible, Aaron and Damian started the show with “I Like!” They snapped, Aaron Hall still has it, he came out his shirt, he pumped the floor on stage, he came out into the crowd and sang “I Miss You”… Finally Teddy Riley hit the stage, the crowd went wild.”

“Guy- great energy…Vocals were good. Showmanship great!”

“Guy was good, Aaron Hall is a character! It was so cool to hear Teddy Riley too!”

    SOUND WAS HORRIBLE

by RMB75 on 2/16/13Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

whoever the sound guy is needs to be fired. It seems to me there was no sound check. All artists sounded muffled except for Guy. There was also no spotlight so you couldn't see I'd they went into the audience. Very low budget show

    Disappointing!

by MRSAJAA on 2/16/13Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

The evening was a disappointment. It was clear that some groups such as Dru Hill and Guy still had it and some individuals like CoCo from SWV still had it but the rest was disappointing. I enjoyed the DJ and the male emcee however for the other acts like AL B Sure it is best to just remember how they once were.

    Whack Jack Swing

by ChicCityGal on 2/16/13Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Where do I begin? There were so many things wrong at this event; I so expected more especially for the money I spent. I had great seats. I was seated on the floor in row G and I still had a hard time hearing all the acts clearly. The sound system was terrible. The mica were turned down and muffled half of the time I couldn't understand what was being said or sang. I really feel bad for the people in the balcony and farther I. The back of the theater. Also, the lighting was worse than the sound. There was no spot light following the acts since most of the performers spent majority of their time running around the audience. I had to strain and twist and turn to find them in the dark in the theater. I have been to many events at the aerie crown and this concert by far was the worse. You could tell the budget was definitely lacking. There was no stage setup as far as back drops or special lighting or scenery. There was a bunch of everyone instruments strewn willie nillie all over the stage. Joe Soto and that women the cohost were ok as host but not that entertaining. You could see lots of people hanging around backstage looking at the concert on the side by the curtain. They were so many and so close to the stage you should have put chairs and I would have thought it was VIP seating. Also, I was disappointed that Raphael Saadique wasn't there as a member of Tony Toni Tone. It was never told to the public that he wasn't apart of the group and they were my main reason for attending. I believe that was misleading. And I won't speak on some of the acts talent, but you might want to replace Al B. Sure on the lineup because of all the acts he was the worse. Overall I walked about feeling dissatisfied and felt like I had been cheated because I couldn't see nor hear the concert clearly and I would not recommend this companies events to anyone. It was not worth the money nor time I spent. I have been to better free concerts.

    Horrible worst concert ever!!

by Bouchie on 2/16/13Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Let me began by saying If the promoters would have paid for a better sound system then maybe our concert experience would have been better. The speakers kept going out and the lighting was bad. Not to mention the bad performance by Al B Sure! He needs to retire and stop singing period. The performance by SWV, Guy and Tony Toni Tone was good but lacked the sound and lighting which draws the people into the experience. Also the radio host suck, they should never be allowed to host a event again! Honestly most of the crowd where we sat (floor seats) wanted our money back after the show!

    The concert was banging

by Mochadiva on 2/16/13Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

All of the artists were great. The only issue was some of the mics kept on going out. Otherwise I would go again.

SWV and Guy really jammed, CoCo blew the roof off!

by KELLIEBEE on 2/16/13Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Al B Sure was too sexy! He sounded a little dry but he handled it well, singing a few hits and the tribute to Heavy D was nice. Also he walked through the audience and allowed people sing on his mic. Loved it! TonyToniTone did well, very energetic. It was Dwaynes birthday!..He brung a lady out of the crowd to bump and grind on. the Lead Singer ran through the crowd, very hyper. Totally forgot Rapheal Siddiq wasnt with the group anymore. DruHill was good, didnt understand why Jazz came out on the third maybe fourth song, the other three sang without him. But he hit some notes and jammed as well. They still had their moves down and vocally as well. Yes Sisqo still got blonde hair! SWV, they were amazing, they sang all the good hits, saved WEAK for last. When they performed If You Only Knew, Patti Labelle remake...OH MY GOD. CoCo blew the roof off, she shut the whole place down. Guy was incredible, Aaron and Damian started the show with I Like!..They snapped, Aaron Hall still has it, he came out his shirt, he pumped he floor on stage, He came out into the crowd and sang I Miss You his number one hit. Finally Teddy Riley hit the stage, the crowd went wild.

Arie Crown venue was a big disappointment!

by Musician888 on 2/16/13Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

The sound was horrible! You could barely hear the performers. It was muggie, distorted, and low. SWV were the only group that complained about it during their performance until it was fixed. The rest of the performers didn't and it was all downhill.

Valentines day jam feat. guy, SWV, AL! BSure

by ach4 on 2/15/13Arie Crown theater - chicago

The lineup was done incorrectly done because of key members of groups not appearing performing lineup should have been as follows: Guy , AL! B Sure, Toni,Tone,Tony,SWV, Dru Hill. I feel short changed because of missing members and not told of this and advertised as full groups on ticketmaster page no explanation of missing members. Would like a refund if i could get it wasn't worth the time spent

R&B Blast from the Past Feat. Guy, C Williams

by RoyalPriestess on 5/23/11Paradise Theater - Bronx

R&B Blast from the Past Feat. Guy, Christoper Williams and Friends This show was really amazing!! It was amazing to me because it took me down memory lane when we all just had great times with GREAT Music and dancing!! All of the acts had such great songs! I think that this show should become a tour and add special guest to the lineup..maybe add Faith Evans to one show. Mary J Blige to another. Heavy D, ...and Teddy Riley, etc.. I would love to see this show again! The comedian was great and I loved the music that D.J. LA Luv played. It was AWESOME! The crowd was very mature and no arguments or fighting! The Paradise Theater is an awesome place!!

    New Jack Swing in NYC

by AnthonyinNYC on 5/23/11Paradise Theater - Bronx

Overall it was a great Show Allure was exactly who there were in the 90's - which is to say they were average. Horace Brown was good with his limited set list. He sounded great didn't miss any notes and had some stage presence. The surprise of the evening was Intro. I was/am a big Intro fan original lead singer of the group passed away some years back. So I was anxious to see how they would perform. All I can say is WOW just WOW. The new lead sounded exactly like the original he really sang great. They had a great mix of uptempo stuff and ballads. They really were the performance of the night. It was very unexpected ..but very enjoyable hats off to INTRO. They did not perform their biggest hit (feels like the first time). Christopher Williams was the disappointment of the night. Don't get me wrong his voice hasn't lost a step. He sounded perfect... in a world of male singers that all sound like women Christopher Williams was "doing it for the Grown men". He did a lot of Teddy P. and was spot on. But he was 20 minutes late with his band and singers on stage just standing there.. He really killed the groove. Changing Faces only did two songs but both were perfect. They picked someone from the audience to be R. Kelly and it turned out to be a lot of fun (GO JAMES). Monifah - sounded great but looked crazy. But did bring out Peter Gunz and Az... Guy - was good not great. I have seen them before and I thought this performance was not as good as the past few. Aaron was on top of his game and Damien was ahhh.. but they still go the goods. In a side note the comedian "smokey" was Chris Rock funny.... He was really hilarious and made the evening (which was full of delays) tolerable. P.S. The Venue still smells and is low on class.
