    Good Time!

by CoinToss on 8/17/10Pepsi Skyline Stage At Navy Pier - Chicago

This show was especially good because all of the key performers were together and interactive on stage for most of the concert. The camaraderie was warm and made the performances enthusiastic and interactive with the audience. What a good time on Navy Pier on a Sunday night! So glad I was there!

seats were good (could see very good) but either the mix was poor or due to the location of our seats I could not hear jeff golubs guitar very well. could be that it went over our heads - we were in the fourth row stage right just under the main speaker. could hear the saxes and peter whites guitar very well, unforunately for me, the main reason I went was to hear Jeff Golub.

    Peter White was the FIRE

by Stinia on 8/16/10Pepsi Skyline Stage At Navy Pier - Chicago

I loved the concert, however the long drawn out rendition by Gerald Albright was quite annoying. I loved Kirk . I expected to hear more of Peter White, overall I had a good time.

    Guitars and Saxes-outstanding!!!

by Janet522 on 8/16/10Pepsi Skyline Stage At Navy Pier - Chicago

I am at a loss for words (very unusual for me). This concert was simply one of the best-EVER! Those four artists, Whalum, Gollub, Albright, White, all on the same stage, at the same time and individually, was well worth the ticket price. Two solid hours of the best sounds of smooth jazz, in a setting like the Skyline Stage at Navy Pier, the weather was perfect, it was romatic, the acoustics were great-AND-they each stayed to autograph their CDs we purchased. All I can say is: "When is the next "Guitars and Saxes?"

great night for guitars and saxes

by DrCharlie on 8/16/10Pepsi Skyline Stage At Navy Pier - Chicago

wonderful venue, great night, great music, only problem was it was only half full (or less) - disappointing for the performers. Needs much more publicity. I miss the old days of five concerts every summer on the navy pier stage. Even dinner beforehand at RIVA's was excellent.

    GUITARS AND SAXES

by Jazzdude on 8/16/10Pepsi Skyline Stage At Navy Pier - Chicago

The concert with Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, Peter White, and Jeff Golub was a high energy affair. The ongoing artist rotation ensured that things never go stale. The set in which they each spoke/played/sang about the artists that influenced them was memorable and provided unique insight into how each developed their styles. The back up artists were excellent and provided great support and leads when provided the chance.

Guitars and Saxes was way to short of a show.

by Tungston on 8/16/10Pepsi Skyline Stage At Navy Pier - Chicago

They came on a little after 8:30 and only played until 10:10. Four 4 jazz musicians that's not even working up a sweat. We the people are getting tired of being shortchanged. What they did play was decent.

We are big jazz fans, so whenever they have concerts at Navy Pier ....we go. I have always thought the performances were superior and last night was no exception. I thought it was just a bit less than what we usually experience but by no means average. I would love to see the jazz package come back during the summer; one jazz concert at Navy Pier June, July and August like they used to do a few years back. I would also like to see some of the new talent introduced; like last year they had Jessie J. Also, it would be great to get a few jazz vocalists mixed in. I love, love, love the venue!! Navy Pier, Jazz in the summer in Chicago.....life is good.

2010 Guitar & Saxes at Navy Pier

by cspw on 8/16/10Pepsi Skyline Stage At Navy Pier - Chicago

I have had the opportunity to attend these venues for the past 6+ years and have enjoyed them tremendously..... I was saddened to see the poor turnout for this years performance. The artists were wonderful and added a new twist with giving us some of their background and what inspired them to become the musicians they are today. My only complaint was that I had been on the look out for this event as early as March of this year, waiting in anticipation of what the date would be. It was almost a fluke that I did a search and there it was. PLEASE put Guitars and Saxes on the calendar earlier for those of us that wait for it each year. GREAT performance by all......

Guitars and Saxes is a must see!!!!

by OHfan on 8/16/10Fraze Pavilion - Kettering

WOW what an incredible show! Jeff Golub, Peter White, Kirk Whalum and Gerald Albright are all such gifted musicians. And to hear them all play together was so much fun. Gerald Albright kiddingly said they could play until 4AM. I wish they had! What made it even more special is that they are not only fellow musicians but great friends. Jeff Golub played a medley of his hits with his co-stars, many of which they had recorded with Jeff. They each talked about their musical influences which led Kirk Whalum to play "Oh Happy Day" and Gerald Albright to play "Mercy, Mercy". Jeff Golub of course played the blues and Peter White was inspired by the Beatles' "Day Tripper". If this show comes to your area and you love great jazz, don't miss it. "When The Saints Come Marching In" was a grand encore. And the way they did it was so cool.

    Guitars and Saxes Rock!

by Lineko on 8/16/10Pepsi Skyline Stage At Navy Pier - Chicago

This show was fabulous. I play sax myself so it goes without saying I love Kirk and Gerald. I took a non Jazz enthusiast and she loved it. The jam sessions are always great. Of course, the music was splendid. I knew that was going to be the case. However, I had no idea they would put on such a show. Peter White was a hoot!! I'd go again. I left energized.

The Best Guitars & Saxes Yet!

by SueChitown on 8/16/10Pepsi Skyline Stage At Navy Pier - Chicago

The personalities of Albright, Golub, Whelan and White and their muscianship was superb. This is the third Guitars & Saxes show I've seen, and it was outstanding. We enjoyed hearing about the individuals who influenced each artist's playing and how that translated into the artists' abilities and music. The pianist, drummer and bass player were first-rate.

Concert was very nice. The line up was very nice as well. Would like to see more Smooth Jazz line ups every summer. I love the Fraze Pavillion venue. Would have liked to hear the artist play "MORE" from their individual CDs.

    Guitars & Saxes

by jazzluvuh on 8/16/10Pepsi Skyline Stage At Navy Pier - Chicago

This was the most amazing show. Kirk Whalum and Gerald Albright on sax, and Peter White & Jeff Golub on guitar. Kirk Whalum was the only artist I had seen in concert before, but I will definitely go see all the others now. Jeff Golub was the bomb; he's got that blues thang going on, and Whalum never fails to praise God, from whom all blessings flow. They all compliment each other very well.

    Smoooooth Jazz in Chicago!

by CAPS008 on 8/16/10Pepsi Skyline Stage At Navy Pier - Chicago

White, Golub, Allbright, & Whalum were awesome together! Their drummer, Eric Valentine was amazing. If you don't have a good drummer, it can't happen! The weather was our summer's best evening in Chicago. Couldn't have asked for anything more! We were a little disappointed with their encore. It was "When the Saints Come Marching In". It was short and off the stage they went!

Navy Pier Skyline Stage totally excellent venue. Every seat is a good seat. Acoustics perfect. Amazing how you forget it is an outdoor stage. Perfect weather. All for dynamic performers. Didn't realize they would perform together vs. one after another, I really really liked this idea. Kinda like the Cirque de Soleil of Guitas and Saxes. Amazing how on one song Gerald Albright and Kirk Whalum flowed seamlessly from one sax to the next. I absolutely love Kirk Whalum truly talented, spiritual, enegetic and very much the stage performer. If I had the money I would follow him all over the world, but since I can't, I got my autographed CD! Peter White and Jeff Golub are totally crazy guys. And Mr. Albright is just too smooth. Loved the combination of talent, different backgrounds, and yes, different types of sexiness!

    Guitars & Saxes

by stargazer13 on 8/16/10Pepsi Skyline Stage At Navy Pier - Chicago

The venue was great. I thought this group did too much talking and too little playing. When they did play it was pretty good. Although the dancing around the stage was a little hokey and took away from the music. They also did not play very long at all! I have been going to these for 5 years and this by far, was the weakest and least satisfying of all the concerts, particularly musically!!! This group, this year, was not worth the ticket price .....
