Gregory Porter on Tour
With his rich baritone voice and his mastery of the deepest traditions of soul, jazz and gospel, Gregory Porter has established himself as one of America's most versatile and acclaimed vocalists. His artistry and sensitivity is plain to the ear whether he's putting his stamp on beloved standards by heroes like Nat "King" Cole or demonstrating his own writing talents with original songs strong enough to stand with the many classics in his repertoire.
Produced by Troy Miller (Jamie Cullum, Laura Mvula), All Rise is Porter's sixth studio album and fourth for the iconic Blue Note label. Like his 2013 breakthrough Liquid Spirit — the Grammy Award winner for Best Jazz Vocal Album — Porter's latest is a confident display of his many gifts, starting with his ability to convey feelings of both exaltation and sadness with uncommon directness and warmth.
Selling out venues to capacity, like Warner Theatre (Washington, D.C.), as engaging and charismatic onstage as he is on his recordings, Porter performs in support of All Rise throughout 2020 in venues across the U.S. and Europe.
Gregory Porter in Concert
Though Gregory Porter has been widely heralded as one of the premier male vocalists in contemporary jazz, his roots in soul and gospel are just as deep. Raised in Bakersfield, California, he got his start in music singing in the church where his mother was a minister. After a promising athletic career was cut short by an injury, he came to New York in 2004 and began building his profile through appearances and residencies at clubs in Brooklyn and Harlem. Porter's albums for the Motéma label — Water (2010) and Be Good (2012) — introduced listeners to a remarkable talent whose baritone voice maintained his warmth and richness regardless of the style and setting. His first album for Blue Note, Liquid Spirit (2013), marked a wider breakthrough on both sides of the Atlantic, winning Porter his first Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album and reaching the Top 10 on the UK charts. In 2017, Porter released Nat King Cole & Me (2017), a collection of songs recorded and inspired by his lifelong idol. His sixth studio album, All Rise, is released in the spring of 2020, with Porter performing new dates in the U.S. and Europe.

Gregory Porter's voice, high quality performance, and song writing are the stuff dreams are made of!
His opening act Chris Turner and Jennah Bell were a little disappointing. However, Gregory Porter was good and charismatic on stage. His trumpet player needs to practice more. He was upstaged by the guy on saxaphone. I wished Mr. Porter would have performed his hit "Hey Laura" earlier in the program. People were walking out of the theater because they thought the show was over. They missed a great song.
To me he fills the void that Barry White and Issic Hayes left. Thank you Mr. Porter for singing to me and my wife on Valentie's day in NYC. It was perfection!
This was a superb performance by the Grammy Award winning Mr. Porter and his band. It was an enchanting performance from beginning to end. I just wish he had song "When Love Was King." It was valentine's day after all.
One of the best shows that I've seen in over 40 years of going to live events from Sinatra to McCartney to Springsteen to Phish and many more. Gregory Porter's voice commands the stage and the band is incredible.
Gregory Porter is an artist that no matter what genre of music you lean towards he will pull u in to his otherworldly sound with his huge voice n genius writing
Gregory Porter's voice is so pure and beautiful thati it reaches into you and massages your soul. His presence filled the theater and rapped you in it's black soulfulness. We longed for his musical embrace and that longing wasn't in vain. The depth of his vocial play, with it's tenderness and life infused one's heart with the willingness to love again.
Loved everything from the opening act to the last notes played and sung. Mr. Porter is an amazing entertainer, an incredible singer and he is funny too!
one of the absolute best concerts i have ever seen. gregory porter has amazing stage presence...and nothing posted on youtube comes even close to the phenomenal experience and of hearing him perform live. his vocals were extraordinarily rich and varied, his musical compositions were superb, and his musicians a treat to listen to. i was in sensory overload--as was the rest of the audience based on their reactions to each song. concert gave me goosebumps....it was THAT good!
Never heard the man before tonight and I was impressed. The show was phenomenal. His voice is silk and the song selection made me want to run out and catch up to what he has on the shelf.
Town hall is a great music venue, large but cozy and any seat, even the cheapest ones allow great view and sound. The concert was awesome. His music is fantastic, he chose a playlist which entertained even the not jazz freaks, alternating classic to energetic vibes. He likes to talk, introduce the music and interact with the audience. That makes the show very pleasant. The only minor negative comment was the group who played before the real concert. It was slightly too long..(1/2 hour). However they were good and talented:)
Awesome show!! He is amazing and the musicians are worth all the awards they earn!
Gregory Porter has a sound that will captivate you. A combination of gospel, blues, classic all rolled into one.
Porter is a masterful singer. I'm so happy he is getting the recognition he deserves. We have already forwarded his tour dates in other cities to friends and family. Porter's interaction with the audience is what scholars write about. He creates community on stage. My husband and I love how he connects jazz, blues, and gospel. What a voice! His voice has helped to carry me through this miserable winter in NYC. His piano player's fingers made us shake! I'm giving the show 4 stars because I wanted him to sing more songs. While we liked the opening act, I wish some of that time had been given back to Porter.
Amazing! A musical journey that connected to your spirit with great lyrics, fabulous musicians, and awesome lead vocal artistry - Mr Gregory Porter! The audience gave Mr Porter and his unique band a standing ovation at the BEGINNING of the concert upon there entrance to the stage!. Gregory and the band were so humbled by the reception they received and proceeded to give a DELUXE concert with great spirit and connection to the audience, who he engaged in song with him on a few songs. I Love Gregory Porter, he is my son from another Mother! Sing on - share your messages and the beauty of your spirit story songs with us. Thank you!
The evening started out slowwww… The warm up group, though talented, darn near put me to sleep. Perhaps it was an exercise in contrasts because when Gregory Porter took to the stage we, the audience, were more than ready. Mr. Porter sang songs from all three of his releases, (I know all 37 songs by heart). I lost my voice singing along and annoying the lady next to me. His musicianship was highlighted by his band leadership and ability to change the tempo and phrasing while adhereing to his song's hooks. He paid homage to his beloved mother and shared childhood anecdotes. I like his sense of humor, my favorite was the Pop Rocks joke.He performed for about two hours straight, which encluded an encore!
The show was amazing. Gregory Porter has an amazing stage presence!!!
LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF HIS SHOW, HE IS MAGICAL, SO HAPPY TO BE AMONGST HIM AND HIS FANS. I SANG AND CLAP LIKE I WAS IN CHURCH WITH 1960 WHAT.
In one word Gregory Porter is tremendous! A fun, generously effortless performer.
I had a fantastic time at this show. Gregory Porter is an amazing artist and seemed so personable. The only downside to the show was the annoying feedback from some piece of equipment in the balcony section of the theater. It was so distracting and had the potential to ruin the experience if that was my kind of personality. Otherwise, I would highly recommend seeing Gregory live!
