GREGORY ALAN ISAKOV IN CONCERT:

Folk singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov has been enthralling audiences with his strong vocals and smooth acoustic tunes since the mid-'90s. His solo live performances are filled with passion and emotion, and he tells affecting stories with powerful lyrics on fan favorites like "The Stable Song" and "Big Black Car". Whether he's strumming his Gibson or performing alongside a full orchestra, Isakov commands the stage with ease and has ticket buyers coming out in droves to his exciting live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Johannesburg and raised in Pennsylvania, Gregory Alan Isakov got his start at age 16 touring with a local band. While in college at Naropa University, Isakov began penning songs about his travels and worldly experiences and collaborated with other musicians on campus. His acoustic-driven music and narrative lyrics truly took shape when he recorded and released his 2003 debut Rust Colored Stones, an earthy album that showcased his songwriting talents and soothing vocals. He’s spent time on the road touring the US, Canada, and Europe with his band and has gained a devoted following along the way. Since then Isakov has released three more acclaimed albums including 2013’s Weatherman, which peaked at No. 1 on the Top Heatseekers Albums chart and earned major critical praise. With his solid collection of folk ballads, the humble singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist creates an intimate experience for concertgoers every time he takes the stage.

  • Great show with a couple caveats

by MaryO on 3/16/24Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - AlbuquerqueRating: 4 out of 5

I love gregory allen isikoff and I loved this concert. The band was amazing. A couple of things were weird to me, though. The lighting was so dang dark. It was kind of hard to see the members of the band. Also, the kiva theater in Albuquerque is very very WIDE which means that , if your seat is off to the side, you might not get a very good view of the stage. We were in the third row, but because we were off to the side we only saw about 40% of the stage. Never saw whatever kind of slide show or whatever it was that was being projected behind the band. Never saw the drummer or steel pedal player. That was a bummer. The warm up band was a woman named Bonnie who was amazing and talented but , once again, after the first couple of songs she started playing the cello and we could not see her at all, because she stepped back a bit and the weird configuration of this theater. Another thing to mention about Bonnie. SHE NEVER INTRODUCED HERSELF. It seems like a little thing when I wrote it, but it , combined with how dark the theater was, and the fact that we couldn't even see her, made me feel like there was not a connection between the audience ( or at least this member of it) and the musician. I suggest that the band, when they are doing their sound check, have someone sit in different seats in the theaters they are playing to make sure people can see and situate where they play accordingly.

  • THE BEST

You can beat this live performance. The lineup, the skills, the lyrics. It’s a perfect show. What a great venue and experience.

  • Amazing Show 🤩

Great venue and THE MOST amazing music!! My favorite band hands down. They provide such a beautiful and transformative experience with their live music. Would recommend GAI and their concert to everyone I know.

  • Overrated concert at Kiva in Albuquerque

by Billb on 3/14/24Rating: 2 out of 5

Saw Isakov at the Kiva auditorium at the Albuquerque convention on 3/14/24. Have been him following for a while and love his music streaming. However, the experience in concert was unpleasant. Most of the audience was 20-30 age group, many who wandered in during the terrible opening act by Bonnie Paine. The theater was dark and many entered with their smart phone light on looking for seats. The Kiva had no ushers to help with seating. The band backing Isakov was way too loud, especially the drummer. We could barely hear his lyrics. We left the concert after his fourth song after wasting $168 on two tickets and $20 on parking. Recommend listening to him on Spotify but not in concert, unless you are of 20-30 age coming for the group experience and visiting friends.

  • Simply Amazing!

by Mandy McClanahan on 3/13/24Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first show at the Fox Theater and I couldn’t have picked a more perfect show. The venue is gorgeous! GAI exceeded all my expectations. He performed every single one of my favorites… and there are many. My favorite part was the encore where the entire band jammed together in a little huddle. The acoustics, the lights, the music… it was a night of bliss. Opener Damian Jurado was awesome too!

  • beautiful, poetic, atmospheric, & alive

by Matt on 3/12/24Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

My first time seeing Isakov. It was more than I could have hoped for. His voice was beautiful, staging was low key and full of the vibes his music makes. Set list was amazing! The Fall, one of my new favorites, echoed through the fox with a resonating boom that landed all of the intensity of the track in a wonderfully demonstrative way. Gorgeous All of it, just gorgeous!

  • amazing

  • Fantastic venue, fantastic artist, fantastic time!

by Doc on 3/12/24Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

The last time we saw Gregory Alan Isaac Isakov was at the Masonic Hall in San Francisco. The sound there was so bad we left the concert with a really bad feeling about what we just experienced. We decided to see Isakov again in the Fox theater and WOW ... we were blown away! We could hear every single lyric that Alan sang, so clearly, as if we were listening to a recorded song. The audio system and the staff at the Fox are incredible. We will be back. We really enjoyed this concert ...

  • Perfection. As always.

I never miss an opportunity to see Gregory Alan Isakov, because he never disappoints. The show at the Fox Theater (Oakland, CA) March 9th was one of the best shows of his that I’ve ever seen. Plus, the venue is gorgeous.

  • Gregory is amazing!

by Sadie on 3/11/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

First time seeing GAI live, I was blown away. His voice is like butter, I could have sat and listened to him for hours and hours. The Sound at Del Mar was great, only thing I would change is to make it very clear that GA means no seating at all. We were fortunate to get a good spot with a bar table to lean on but saw 50+ people ask the event worker "Where can we sit with GA?"to be told it's standing room only. Other than that, great venue and amazing artist!

  • Isakov at The Sound

by Rod on 3/10/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

Very nice venue and extremely talented musicians. For me the sound quality is of primary importance for a show. Except for a couple of songs when they were rocking out, it was excellent. On these songs the level was pushed way up. Too much drum and base created a mushy distorted wall of sound! I especially liked the encore set where they shared a single surround mike very effectively. Not common in these types of shows.

  • Sound even better live!

by VRS on 3/10/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing! Great performance by a great band. Interludes connected songs in an ethereal way and the whole set was solid. Great musicians, great songs, great sound at venue. Great all around experience.

  • Great sound. Not so great view

by Tony B on 3/10/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

Sound is fantastic. General admission is tough to find a good view. The stage should be higher or the floor sloped.

  • Fantastic show

    by Cheri on 3/9/24Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

Wonderful show. The only problem is it wasn’t long enough. Love the music so much.

  • Great Concert. So Glad I Went

by AM in Tucson on 3/8/24Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

Gregory Alan Isakov was really great to see play live. His band was also fantastic. There was a great mix of older and newer songs. Watching talented musicians playing great music while having fun doing it was a great experience.

  • First-class concert

by Ogej on 10/26/23Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This was my second time seeing GAI (first in 2016), and I was quite emotional the entire night as his songs were so moving. I also enjoyed the synergy between GAI and his band, especially during their harmonies. A+++ show. Can't wait to see him again.

  • Chill, Fun, loved it!

by Cori on 10/23/23Ulster Performing Arts Center - KingstonRating: 5 out of 5

This show was better than expected! The lights were great, the Milk Carton Kids were really amazing, and Gregory Alan Isakov put on such a great performance. The fact that his band consists of people he’s known for a decade or more made it even more of a fun show because it’s just a group of friends making beautiful music and clearly loving it! 10/10 would go again.

  • would recommend to anyone. amust see.
