GREGORY ALAN ISAKOV IN CONCERT:

Folk singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov has been enthralling audiences with his strong vocals and smooth acoustic tunes since the mid-'90s. His solo live performances are filled with passion and emotion, and he tells affecting stories with powerful lyrics on fan favorites like "The Stable Song" and "Big Black Car". Whether he's strumming his Gibson or performing alongside a full orchestra, Isakov commands the stage with ease and has ticket buyers coming out in droves to his exciting live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Johannesburg and raised in Pennsylvania, Gregory Alan Isakov got his start at age 16 touring with a local band. While in college at Naropa University, Isakov began penning songs about his travels and worldly experiences and collaborated with other musicians on campus. His acoustic-driven music and narrative lyrics truly took shape when he recorded and released his 2003 debut Rust Colored Stones, an earthy album that showcased his songwriting talents and soothing vocals. He’s spent time on the road touring the US, Canada, and Europe with his band and has gained a devoted following along the way. Since then Isakov has released three more acclaimed albums including 2013’s Weatherman, which peaked at No. 1 on the Top Heatseekers Albums chart and earned major critical praise. With his solid collection of folk ballads, the humble singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist creates an intimate experience for concertgoers every time he takes the stage.

  • Wonderful evening

by DH on 10/16/24Red Hat Amphitheater - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

A wonderful evening of music. Fourth time seeing GAI and he never disappoints.

  • Reliable but... depressing.

    by P-funk on 10/16/24Red Hat Amphitheater - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

The show was supposed to be with both Isakov and Ray LaMontaigne, and the latter canceled due to illness. The opening act played a set of extremely depressing songs, and that, combined with the music played over the speakers ("experimental oboe sadness"as my wife described it), set a really unusual vibe. Everyone seemed tired and exhausted. While Isakov soldiered through it and put on a decent show, it couldn't ameliorate the overall perception of the show as a downer. They're such an amazingly talented band that there's really no such thing as a 'bad' Isakov show, but the vibe--ouch.

  • Awesome Show!!

by DMitchell on 10/15/24Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

This was an awesome show. Was disappointed at first when Ray was unable to be there, but Gregory Alan Isakov was amazing. I will attend his concerts as they come available in the future.

  • GREAT! — but—

Really great show- Gregory Alan Isakov really brought it, and the crowd loved it. A little disappointed that Ray Lamontaine was unable to perform. That would have made it 11/10!

  • AMAZING!!

by Leilani on 10/12/24Rating: 5 out of 5

Saw them at Cadence Bank Amphitheater at Chastain Park and it was AMAZING! Perfect venue for this band, and they did such a phenomenal job. This band is definitely just as good, if not better live than they are in their recordings. I want to go again and again and again!!!

  • Amazing! New Fan Acquired!

by ShanO on 9/15/24Rating: 5 out of 5

Went to see Ray LaMontagne but came away as a new Gregory fan! Excellent set. Sound was amazing. Loved the use of light during the show too. Gregory Alan Isakov should have headlined. Much better overall. Would definitely go see him again.

  • Unbelievable Experience

by JCaldKY on 6/19/24The Louisville Palace - LouisvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I love Gregory Alan Isakov’s music, but wasn’t sure what to expect for a concert with a discography that is mostly slower songs. Mr. Isakov and his band blew any expectations I could have had out of the water with a more energetic “concert-style” version of his astounding songs with the exception of Appaloosa Bones. The carefully crafted lighting arrangements and multi-talented members on stage made for a memorable concert that will remain on my favorites list for years to come. Having Mon Rovia with his talented songwriting and peaceful singing style as an opening act made the night even more special.

  • Absolutely amazing!

by Kfod on 6/19/24The Louisville Palace - LouisvilleRating: 5 out of 5

These guys never fail to give 1000% at every concert I’ve been fortunate enough to attend. My only issue was with the Louisville Palace. I realize it’s a dated venue, but the lower seats were so uncomfortable because of the temperature in the area. I’m sure the guys in the band were dealing with it much worse. Something needs to be done for the comfort of guests and talent.

  • Simply Amazing

by MaryR on 6/19/24The Louisville Palace - LouisvilleRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was amazing from start to finish. The amount of talent in this band is unreal. I am a forever fan that can’t wait to see them again.

  • Exceptional

by CJK on 6/19/24The Louisville Palace - LouisvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Expecting a low key show with an emphasis on Isakov’s persuasive, yearning and overall excellent voice, I was wonderfully surprised by the band’s performance and upbeat songs where the instruments were the focal point. Isakov, of course, did not disappoint with his timely overwhelming vocals. Overall, the show was a 10 when I was expecting a 7.5. One other note, the band actually seemed HAPPY performing together-an awesome site to see.

  • Life Changing

I saw them in Portland Maine Nov of 2022. Absolutely amazing. ♡ it was soul shaking to be apart of. His music has sailed with me through some horrific times in my life, and saved me from drowning in galaxies of sorrow. Im so glad I found them. I lay out and stare at the stars with them playing.. if not aloud then in my head. Its the peace I breath.

  • Good music, venue glitches

by Pat on 3/16/24Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - AlbuquerqueRating: 4 out of 5

I didn't know GAI's music very well, musicianship from the 6 (!) man band was solid. Music seemed kind of all in a limited range of style and octave so for me it was hard to know diff between one song or another. Still as the show went on ended up feeling very engrossed. Soothing. The lighting was strange, rarely allowed for really seeing musicians in any detail. Rarely could I make out words of songs, it was kind of garbled sounding - sound? Or singer style? Not sure... **There was a door at back of stage. People, stage hands, were going in and out of door super casually, throughout the show, letting light out onto stage in the midst of all the dark, murky lighting, and cool imagery on screen at back of stage. At one point, someone literally just held the door open, light blaring on stage, for a couple minutes... chatting to someone in the hall? Super weird. Totally blew the whole lighting mood. Whatup gang? GAI seemed like a SUPER nice guy and they all clearly LOVED what they were doing. Left feeling calm and pleasant.

  • Captivating. Immersive. Magical.

This was one of the most soulful, captivating and amazing shows I have ever been to. My boyfriend said it was the best experience he’s ever had with a performance. The band captivated everyone and everyone was silent and in awe the entire time.

  • A complete show

by Mr. Green Dreams on 3/16/24Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - AlbuquerqueRating: 5 out of 5

Gregory Alan Isakov's singular devotion to sonic perfection & intelligent songwriting made his March 13 show in Albuquerque one of the most satisfying concert experiences I've had in years. His on-stage relationship with his band puts one in mind of those immortal 50s jazz performances where every musician is listening closely to his bandmates. Worth listening to most closely is Isakov himself, one of the smartest lyricists I know. In effusive discussions with friends & on my weekly radio program I've endeavored to turn others on to Isakov's profound & moving songwriting. This show was worth a long drive through the desert and an overnight stay in Albuquerque to enjoy what was that rare "complete show"--a performance focused on the music rather than the musician. (Though it's gratifying to learn elsewhere that Isakov is himself a dedicated organic farmer and advocate....) If Gregory Alan Isakov passes through your state, endeavor to catch his show. It will move you & make you love concertgoing all over again.

  • Great

  • G.A.I. Concert was beyond expectations!

by Maggie on 3/16/24Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - AlbuquerqueRating: 5 out of 5

The sound was excellent. The music wasn’t blasted at the crowd, it washed over the crowd to be absorbed. Playlist was perfect. Surprisingly, one of my top 10 concerts!
