GREGORY ALAN ISAKOV IN CONCERT:

Folk singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov has been enthralling audiences with his strong vocals and smooth acoustic tunes since the mid-'90s. His solo live performances are filled with passion and emotion, and he tells affecting stories with powerful lyrics on fan favorites like "The Stable Song" and "Big Black Car". Whether he's strumming his Gibson or performing alongside a full orchestra, Isakov commands the stage with ease and has ticket buyers coming out in droves to his exciting live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Johannesburg and raised in Pennsylvania, Gregory Alan Isakov got his start at age 16 touring with a local band. While in college at Naropa University, Isakov began penning songs about his travels and worldly experiences and collaborated with other musicians on campus. His acoustic-driven music and narrative lyrics truly took shape when he recorded and released his 2003 debut Rust Colored Stones, an earthy album that showcased his songwriting talents and soothing vocals. He’s spent time on the road touring the US, Canada, and Europe with his band and has gained a devoted following along the way. Since then Isakov has released three more acclaimed albums including 2013’s Weatherman, which peaked at No. 1 on the Top Heatseekers Albums chart and earned major critical praise. With his solid collection of folk ballads, the humble singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist creates an intimate experience for concertgoers every time he takes the stage.

  • I love Gregory, but there were too many people

by horoschroho on 11/19/19Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 3 out of 5

I’ve seen Gregory before and it was one of the best concerts I’ve been too. I was excited to see him at the Madison. The event was sold out and too loud and over packed.

  • What a show!

by Griffs on 11/19/19Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Gregory Allen Isakov and band are simply amazing! So much tallent, passion for their music. One of the best shows I've seen in a while!

  • Terrible

by Brookelyn on 11/19/19Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 1 out of 5

Madison theater 100% over sold that concert and it was not fun. If you left the front area for a drink or to use the restroom they wouldn’t let you back down. Half the crowd was in the lobby because there was no room for them anywhere else. Shame on you all.

  • Good music, bad venue

    by A. M. on 11/19/19Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 3 out of 5

The music was really solid that we could hear. The venue was terrible. Oversold and crowded. The acoustics were awful. If you were on the main level in the back, you could not hear a thing and the people up there talking had no idea how their voices carried forward. I will not spend any more money at the Madison Theater. If GAI comes back in town, he should play Memorial Hall or Taft.

  • Show did not disappoint - awesome performance by a talented

    by A. G. on 11/19/19Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Show was great but venue was way oversold and should have been better described as SRO ie, standing in the noisy entry way bar area with no visibility to the stage. It was our first time at the venue which looks great if you get seating or an SRO spot with a view/away from the bar.

  • Great show!

by Jackie on 11/15/19The Lyric Theatre - BirminghamRating: 5 out of 5

What a perfect venue to see Gregory Alan Isakov! The show was energetic, Isakov’s band was amazing, and the whole thing was an enjoyable evening out! Luke Sital-Singh did a good job opening and we were glad to be introduced to his work.

  • Amazing show

by Indie fan man on 11/14/19House of Blues Houston presented by Cricket Wireless - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

Gregory Alan Isakov really worked hard and put on a great show. They did some stuff on stage I hadn’t seen before that I liked. They also did a flawless job playing their own music and we’re nice to the audience. A serious and talented group, overall.

  • Wonderful experience

It was great. One of the best concerts I've had the pleasure of going to. Do yourself a favor and see Greg if you ever get the chance.

  • Great Show

by Dave on 11/13/19House of Blues Houston presented by Cricket Wireless - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great show. Luke Sitel-Singh was very entertaining as an opener, and of course, GAI and band were outstanding. Sound was stellar. Sightlines were perfect. Nice job by House of Blues hosting.

  • Great show!

    by s. w. on 7/28/19State Theatre - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

The show itself was so great! The downside: There didn’t appear to be any A/C in the venue and it got so hot it was swampy and uncomfortable.

  • Performance amazing, atmosphere super uncomfortable

    by M on 7/28/19State Theatre - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

Lighting, performance great. Sound wonderful. But it’s late July with no AC and everyone was uncomfortably drenched in sweat. Really diminished the quality of the experience unfortunately. I frequently contemplated leaving for fresh air, but I feared I would miss a favorite song. I can’t imagine how horrible it must have been as a performer onstage.. the theatre ought to install an AC system...

  • Great musician, AWFUL venue

    by N8 on 1/28/19Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

This is the second time I've seen Gregory Alan Isakov live and the LAST time I go to see any performer at the Newport. When we found he was playing there we groaned but it was the only chance to see him within driving distance. As usual, he brings amazing skill and heart to his performances. His backing band was incredible and the sound was good. HOWEVER, the Newport is by far one of the worse venues in Columbus to "see" a live show and the reason for those quotation marks is because unless you arrive 3 to 4 hours early and get in the VERY front of the main floor or along the railings on the balcony you can see ZERO of the stage. This has been a problem for years and my friends and I literally spent the ENTIRE concert staring at the back of people's shirts while we drank expensive beers. At one point we considered leaving early because there was literally no way to see the stage no matter where we moved to. I will definitely not be going back to the Newport no matter who the musician and I wish I hadn't wasted the $$ on this performance but at least I was able to support Gregory Alan Isakov and his incredible music.

  • Great concert. We stood for the show, had a great view.

    by N. on 1/27/19Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Great show GAI was amazing and so was his band! Opener was wonderful too. Event staff were helpful and friendly.

  • I’d quit my job and follow this band in your if I could

    by A. B. on 1/27/19Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Being a huge Gregory Alan Isakov fan, I was thrilled when he released a new album, but then really bummed when his tour wasn’t coming near my city. On a whim, I booked a 24-hour trip to see him play in Columbus, Ohio. Before the show, I stood in 20-degree snowy weather and waited two hours for the venue doors to open. Long story short, I’d do it all over again if I could. Great venue, great people, and exceptional concert. His live show exceeded all expectations and should not be missed.

  • Awesome!!!

by Skooterk on 1/27/19Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

This was my fourth time attending a Gregory Alan Isakov performance. Fantastic as always!!. Gregory and his band mates are so talented and have perfected the art of story telling through music. I can't recommend them enough; if you have a chance to see them don't pass it up. And let's not forget the opener, Danny Black, a guitar virtuoso! His performance blew my mind!

  • Awesome

    by C. J. on 1/27/19Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Cd doesn’t do him justice! He is fantastic live! The way all the instruments come with his voice. Great talent this band has! I can not wait to see them again!

  • Amazingly talent!

by Kaptkarl on 1/27/19Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Amazingly talented. Great performance by all on stage. Took my 13 year old because she’s been getting into him from an Avett Brothers playlist that I put together. Excellent experience for us both. Only complaint was the while waiting to get in the show.

  • Incredible

by Cait on 1/27/19Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

If I could only listen to one artists music for the rest of my life, it would be GAI. He was incredible live. Even better than his albums. The instrumentation was a huge part of why I loved the live experience - violin, cello, and bass touring with him. That’s a rare thing. Danny Blacks set on guitar was also amazing. I would go again tomorrow.

  • Christmas gift

It was such a great concert. Loved every minute! Gregory Alan Isakov rocks!

  • Loved the concert

Ticket check in was not bad. Pre paid parking was the worst, I will never do that again.
