GREGORY ALAN ISAKOV IN CONCERT:

Folk singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov has been enthralling audiences with his strong vocals and smooth acoustic tunes since the mid-'90s. His solo live performances are filled with passion and emotion, and he tells affecting stories with powerful lyrics on fan favorites like "The Stable Song" and "Big Black Car". Whether he's strumming his Gibson or performing alongside a full orchestra, Isakov commands the stage with ease and has ticket buyers coming out in droves to his exciting live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Johannesburg and raised in Pennsylvania, Gregory Alan Isakov got his start at age 16 touring with a local band. While in college at Naropa University, Isakov began penning songs about his travels and worldly experiences and collaborated with other musicians on campus. His acoustic-driven music and narrative lyrics truly took shape when he recorded and released his 2003 debut Rust Colored Stones, an earthy album that showcased his songwriting talents and soothing vocals. He’s spent time on the road touring the US, Canada, and Europe with his band and has gained a devoted following along the way. Since then Isakov has released three more acclaimed albums including 2013’s Weatherman, which peaked at No. 1 on the Top Heatseekers Albums chart and earned major critical praise. With his solid collection of folk ballads, the humble singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist creates an intimate experience for concertgoers every time he takes the stage.

  • Beautiful experience!

    by Brenda on 11/27/21Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to many live shows, but this was by far the absolute best show I have ever attended. The opening act was pure heaven, and Gregory Alan Isakov was simply amazing. The sound was so pure and perfect. Thanks for a wonderful night.

  • Gregory was good but…..

    by Josh on 11/27/21Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 3 out of 5

All problems stem from the fact that the venue used seating that was closer together than a plane ride. Getting up to use the restroom or get another drink meant clearing the whole row of 10 people out. The joy of listening to the drunk guy who’s knee was hitting my back while he belted out his own version of every song was a added bonus to the show. I see why they checked vaccine cards and still had us wear masks as the smell of someone’s halitosis could easily be picked up. Quite simply give people more space and it would change the experience.

  • Amazing music; disappointing venue

by Patty Fan on 10/26/21The Cabot - BeverlyRating: 4 out of 5

Patty Griffin and Gregory Alan Isakov were both fantastic! Both awesome on their own, but together, even better. So glad I saw it. I was sitting in the balcony and there was a loud, obviously drunk patron sitting in the row ahead of mine. At one point, he verbally heckled Isakov so loudly that patrons sitting around him shushed him and told him to get it together. Problem was, there weren't any ushers to be found to help with the situation. This guy was clearly intoxicated and behaving poorly - it shouldn't have been left to other patrons to handle him on our own.

  • Great performance!

    by Sam W. on 10/15/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time seeing GAI. My daughters have been avid fans for years and I wanted to get in on the action. Loved his music and the relaxed setting at the Birchmere.

  • Wonderful Experience

by Phil on 10/10/21Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

The musicianship of Gregory Allen Isakov was amply displayed at the TN theatre. An incredible writer/artist, he is the perfect way to showcase Knoxville’s beautiful venue.

  • I Love GAI

by Allie on 10/9/21Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Dope as always. The Tennessee is such a majestic and beautiful venue that absolutely matches the hauntingly crisp and beautiful tones of GAI's one-mic performance.

  • Great, but Short

by BigskyDan on 10/8/21Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Music was great, but he only played for about an hour.

  • Tennessee Theater Patty Griffin and Gregory Alan Isakov

    by B. R. on 10/8/21Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 3 out of 5

Overall this was not a good experience. Patty's voice or the acoustics were way off, and the lighting kept flickering on the stage. GAI did well, but was not playing with a full band, and the music was slow, and the lighting was still off. Also, the beer selection at this venue is horrible. They only have mass market beer with the exception of one other choice. I will have to think twice before going back to this venue. The Bijou in Knoxville is a much better experience.

  • Love Greg, room to improve!

    by T on 10/8/21Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 3 out of 5

Gregory is mine and my husbands absolute favorite artist! He means a lot to us and we always want to hear him when he’s nearby. We were a little disappointed that it took so long for him to come on stage… it started at 8 and he didn’t come out until almost 9:45, and with it being a weeknight we had to head out early, which hurt!!!! Maybe in the future having an earlier start time for the event would be better overall, especially if it is on a weeknight.

  • Amazing

A big Patty Griffin fan but the sound quality and song selection was horrible. A real disappointment

  • GAI at TN Theater

Great experience even with masks. Sound was perfect. Loved the encore with Patty and GAI preforming two Springsteen songs.

by ShreDaisy on 10/8/21Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

It was all I’d hoped for and more. The Tennessee Theater was a beautiful venue and Gregory Alan Isakov was phenomenal. I’d go back in a heartbeat!

  • Wow!

by NineToeBen on 11/20/19Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I had no doubt this was going to be a good show but... WOW! There is an energy in their show that comes only from a group that loves their art. The Madison Theater was a great place for this show. It was small. It was intimate. Who doesn't want this for a group that has an acoustic set?

  • Perfect blend of talent

by Kfod on 11/19/19Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This talented and amazing artist puts on such an amazing show. The venue of the Madison Theatre is quaint and makes you feel part of the show. I always feel so fortunate to share this world with Gregory Alan Isakov and his wizards of musical talent.

  • great show

by Chris on 11/19/19Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Great show and venue-music was awesome and Luke Sital-singh was great too. General admission seating is still tough, last minute entry people walking upstairs standing in front of seats that were claimed over an hour earlier. show was great but lighting design was too dim. I understand the artist likes it to feel warmer, but we couldn't see much of anything on the stage. Sound was great except for some input clipping that was pretty annoying towards the end of the show. Ticket prices were very reasonable, and I would go again in a heartbeat.

  • CROWDED, but worth it

by The Universe on 11/19/19Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Madison is an overly packed theater. It was wrapped around the building even an hour after the show started. People continued to pour in, and we got smashed into a corner against the bar area. It is very difficult to hear when you're up there, way too many people talking. In-front of the bar is much better for sound. The slope is too gradual also, the stage is too low. So unless you're very tall, or up very close, you won't even see them playing. I had to spend the hour or so balanced on a ledge of the bar floor to see anything. Otherwise I loved the show. Isakov is a wonderful artist, and the band was awesome.. sounded awesome. Would love to see him again, at a different venue. I don't know if I'd go back to Madison to be honest.

  • Most amazing concert

by KG on 11/19/19Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was wonderful, I was appreciative that at some point there was a cap to how many people could be down where I was so it wasn’t over crowded and claustrophobic. Also, GAI was a thousand times better than I was expecting. I’ve been in VIP stadium headlining tours and this was the best experience out of them all.

  • Oversold

by Nate on 11/19/19Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 2 out of 5

The venue sold entirely too many tickets. Large number of people had to stand in lobby all the way out to the doors. Many people who left members of their group In viewing area to go to the bar to get drinks were not allowed to return to their group because viewing area was over capacity. Our group had looked forward to seeing Gregory for a long time and we weren’t able to even see him on stage because of the venue being so oversold. Very disappointing!
