About

A critical smash on Broadway and in London, the two-time Tony Award® winning hit musical AMERICAN IDIOT tells the story of three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Based on Green Day’s GRAMMY® Award-winning multi-platinum album and featuring the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the blockbuster title track, AMERICAN IDIOT boldly takes the American musical where it’s never gone before. With direction by Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), choreography by Steven Hoggett (Once) and orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), the result is an experience Charles Isherwood of The New York Times declares “thrilling, emotionally charged, and as moving as any Broadway musical I’ve seen this year!”

    Weak

by Whataweakshow on 1/21/12Detroit Opera House - Detroit

There is no emotion or substance to the "acting" in the show whatsoever, just nicely choreographed dancing and singing to the album. The band was too far back in the mix, so they made "pop" rock even softer. If you like Green Day, just go to their concert. If you want to see a Broadway show, there are much better choices.

I thoroughly enjoyed this entire show! In fact, some of the covers were better than Green Day's original versions.

    "American Idiot" musical was magnificent!

by 4GreenDayFans on 1/20/12Detroit Opera House - Detroit

My husband & I attended the Wednesday evening performance at the Detroit Opera House. We were blown away. Having two kids who played Green Day non-stop since the band formed in 1987, our family grew up with Green Day music. During spring 2010, our daughter saw "American Idiot" on Broadway in NYC & insisted we see it. Summer 2010, when she visited, our daughter left the CD "American Idiot" in our car. For the past year, it has been our "driving music" so we were thrilled when we heard the show was (finally) coming to Detroit. And, it didn't disappoint...in fact, we enjoyed it more than we could have imagined. We are even sorry we didn't purchase tickets for more than one performance!

The vocals were pretty good, the dancing lacked. But overall a good performance. No intermission which was good because it would have lost momentum. The special effects were outstanding.

This is a very moving powerful show. The preformer's energy is extremely high!!!!! Although each and every one of them had a most amazing show I thought that St. Jimmy and Whatshername were OUTSTANDING!!!! If the tickets were more affordable I would go again and again and again!!!!!!!!!!!!
