Great show, great actors and actresses, excellent choreography,
Damp weather in this impressive but only semi-covered amphitheatre couldn't dampen the enthusiasm of the cast or the audience, and it was a heck of a night. The University of Florida's School of Theatre's productions are just about guaranteed to be good -- this show was great. Professional quality all around, and kick-butt voices. I've seen Grease, both on stage and the movie version, at least half a dozen times and still teared up toward the end. A particular plus of this show is that the ensemble cast has so much depth that you even cared whether the bit-part stereotypical nerd buzzing around the edges of the action would finally get a girl or not (he did!). A triumph! I look forward to the First Coast Arts Festival's second season, another packed week of dance, theatre, concerts and art shows, in May 2010.
Lots of fun and great music. I could have done without the self-promoting Taylor Hicks. If condition of his performance is to sing one of his songs afterward, get someone else to play the small role of teen angel.
THE PLAY TURNED INTO A TAYLOR HICKS CONCERT AT END, HES NOT EVEN A GOOD SINGER... PLUS HE HAS THE SMALLEST ROLE IN THE PLAY AND HE CANT EVEN DO THAT WELL.
I was very pleased with the show. I wouldn't say it was the best I ever saw, but several of the actors/actresses were excellent. I was especially pleased with the Taylor Hicks cameo and his performance of his new single afterward. Only praise and no complaints other than an obnoxious drunk woman in the row in front of us.
Grease was well introduced by our Michigan actor who I believe should have played the lead. He did a great intro and his look and voice were great. My big disappointment was that the lyrics were not clear enough to understand. Thank heaven the music was well known.
From the time I sat down waiting for the show, to the standing O at the end of the show, I had a blast. The clothing the actors wore wear great and just like the movie. The actors were also close to the movie and how they spoke. The best part was that Grease involved you in the show, by dancing and signing! Who else does that?
The singing was mostly average and both leads were uncharismatic. I didn't think either lead could really carry the show. The standout performer was the woman who played Rizzo; she was a powerful singer and stage presence. I talked to other people who had seen the show and they had the same impression I did...the show was a little amaturish and not very engaging.
The cast and crew were spectacular!! The sets were fabulous! Choreography was amazing! And last but not least...Taylor Hicks was the BEST Teen Angel I have ever seen!! The whole show was fantastic!!
My sister and I went to this hoping to see Taylor Hicks. He happened to be ill that evening and there was a substitute in his place. By the end of the first 3 songs - that didn't matter to us any longer. This entire cast is AMAZING. So much talent and energy. To go back and watch the movie Grease, it doesn't get me pumped as much as seeing this LIVE performance did. I am SO GLAD we went. A real - MUST SEE MUSICAL!!!
Grease was an updated and unforgettable version of a classic.
I was very impressed with the venue and the show. Taylor Hicks was scheduled to perform and when arriving, we were told that he was not appearing the night of our event, so we were a little upset, but the show was so good, we did not even miss him!
I HAVEN'T HAD THIS MUCH FUN IN A LONG TIME. RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END WE WERE HAVING THE TIME OF OUR LIVES. AMAZING TIME. I WOULD RECOMMEND ANYONE TO GO AND SEE THIS SHOW!!!!!
I really enjoyed the show. It moved right along and didn't have any slow spots. I thought that Taylor Hicks was going to play a larger role based on the commercials that were shown, but he was enjoyable for the limited time he was on stage. The solo song after the show was good also.
My granddaughters really enjoyed the show. It was fun and interactive. Would recommend it to anyone who enjoys musicals.
Compared to the movie, this production was a sad imitation!!!
I felt like the 12 year old girl I was when the movie Grease came out! The cast was amazing!
There were three generations - my daughter, 19 year old granddaughter and me and we all liked the same musical!!!
Grease was well worth seeing. They made a big deal out of Taylor Hicks being the "Star" and he didnt really make it any better or worse.
Very good, never got bored. Loved the new songs that were not in the movie. Very talented cast.
