    Does it have to end?

by yourLIFEdesigns on 9/28/09DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

The fusing together of the Grand Rapids Symphony and Jeans 'N' Classics was surely a night to remember. How could one not appreciate a concert that is filled with everything that makes a James Bond film a classic? From beginning to end this show has been, by far, my favorite Pops Concert yet!

    Great Bond Music

by RandySK on 9/28/09DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

The Music of James Bond was part of the Jeans and Classics series with the Grand Rapids Symphony. There was a rock band combined with the orchestra. It was a great sound and it really made for a complete sound. Most of the music was select well, but there was some unrelated music in the second half, brought in ostensibly because it was in the Austin Powers movies. I would have preferred sticking with Bond music, since there is certainly enough of it. The male vocalist did impressions of the original artists and matched them very well. The female vocalist had a full voice which was able to hold up to songs originally sung by Shirley Bassey. All in all, very worthwhile.

    James Bond was awsome

by Jasin on 9/28/09DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

This was my first time I attended a G.R. Symphony show and I was amazed. The James Bond music has always been a favorite of mine and to hear it performed by a great band and a great symphony was unbelievable.

    007 comes to life

by addnoctvm on 9/28/09DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

This performance was the best I've heard in a long time. I am a HUGE 007 fan and know all the movie songs. It was a real pleasure to see and hear them be performed live. Every one did a fantastic job. Both lead singers were amazing, spot on.

    A memorable evening!

by StevenJT on 9/21/09DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

My wife Sherry and I had never been to the symphony, although I've listened ardently to classical music for nearly a quarter century. She has had just a bit of exposure to classical music. As the opening number was finishing (The Sorcerer's Apprentice), she whispered to me: "You can bring me here anytime!" The feeling only increased as we listened to further portions of the concert (Ravel and Debussy). At the end of Tschaikovskey's Fourth Symphony, we stood and applauded with the rest of the audience. It was a moving and beautiful performance, and a wonderful experience. I was looking thru the program to see what other concerts were upcoming. Can't wait to hear (and share with my wife) something by Shostokovitch or Sibelius if they ever include them in their concerts, or more by Tschaikovskey. We're hooked, and are hoping to find more good deals (this time was a special promotion) so we can attend more often. It has enhanced my appreciation of classical music incredibly, and has given me the added pleasure of sharing something I love with my wife of 11 months. To paraphrase the governor of Caleefornia: "We'll be back!"

Opening night at the symphony was great

by Sunshinw on 9/19/09DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

The entire concert was very enjoyable. We were able to see and hear extremely well. We heard some of our favorite music and were reminded of other times and places when we had heard this music too. It was altogether a very very pleasant evening. We are looking forward to future concerts.

Cavanaugh creates magic with Billy Joel/Elton John

by RAO2009 on 8/3/09Cannonsburg Ski Area - Belmont

He is an entertainer who is enjoyable to listen too. He not only recreates magic with Billy Joel, but is equally as good with Elton John. Our group hopes he plans another visit to GR next year!!

    Perfect for young kids

by Husk3r on 8/1/09Sunshine Community Church - Grand Rapids

I think the symphony did a wonderful job of educating the kids in a fun manner. The music was appropriate for them but fun for the adults as well. Even the adults enjoyed singing Old McDonald. The various percussion instruments played during the reading of the Dr. Suess story was a lot of fun. My 7th Grader and his classmate enjoyed the concert immensely.

    Mediocre program at best

by ShayRae on 7/31/09Cannonsburg Ski Area - Belmont

I was impressed at how much Michael sounded like Billy Joel, but was disappointed overall in the program. (Compared to the past programs of coverbands playing Abba and Led Zepplin, this was a disappointment.) Just as people were starting to get into the music, it would be interrupted by a "short break" for the band, then GR symphony would play something that sounded totally unrelated and was anticlimactic, and then Michael played songs from different artists. This program's marketing of music of Billy Joel was misleading. The crowd didn't actually get excited, moving, and roused-up until the third song from the last. I left the show feeling cheated, let down, and that I wasted my time and money. After the Abba and Led Zepplin programs, I was on cloud nine for days...not so with this show.

Lollipops is a family friendly event

by Masonjarmama on 7/29/09Sunshine Community Church - Grand Rapids

We had a nice time at the lollipop symphony. Great seats and a beautiful venue. The conductor was great with involving young children in the event. From marching, to riding a rollercoaster, listening for cartoon sounds, engaging in a popular story, the children were always engaged! Loved the real lollipops at the end of the event! Thanks GR symphony for a wonderful summer memory!

    1st symphony

by lousey on 7/29/09Sunshine Community Church - Grand Rapids

My grandkids are 3&6 and this was their first experience at the symphony. It was lots of fun and I think they learned a lot. The conductor did a great job with all the kids. My little one was waiting for singing so I was happy that singing was included.

The Grand Rapids Symphony sounded great!

by CutyKate on 7/25/09Cannonsburg Ski Area - Belmont

The concert was great! I really enjoyed hearing from a couple of the composers themselves, nice touch. The 1812 Overture was amazing and followed by a spectacular fireworks show!
