    Beautiful performance, distracted by choking

by Stop snack sales on 5/2/23DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

In my decades of symphony-going, this was by far the most memorable. Incredible conducting, beautiful, swelling music, and a patron who couldn't stop shoveling snacks into his mouth. You could hear his chewing, the packaging of his snacks, and hitting his teeth. At some point, the choking began and went on for MINUTES. It is the most uncomfortable symphony experience I have ever had. The patron didn't even bother getting up, just continued to choke. Family members ignored him, and they had liquids they could have provided. Made for a very unpleasant experience. Therefore, snacks should be banned. Drinks are fine.

    Amazing!

by Herb on 4/17/23Royce Auditorium at St. Cecilia Music Center - Grand Rapids

Everything about this concert was great! I love the GR Symphony. Every piece - Haydn, Elgar, and Ralph Vaughan Williams - were distinctly unique and made for a beautiful evening.

    Great! But yet.....

by tom on 4/5/23DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

The Band and the orchestra were phenomenal!! But what a terrible distraction for many people coming in late and using their phones constantly during the performance...a total lack of respect for the performers and the rest of the audience. Incredibly rude!!

    Too Loud

by Lucy on 4/4/23DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

It was too loud. I had to cover my ears to enjoy it. There were quite a few people around me doing the same thing. It was so loud you couldn't even hear the lyrics at times. I don't know if it was bad because of where we were sitting (back of the Mezzanine) but I would think twice about going to a concert there again.

    First rate

by Grand Lady on 3/28/23DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

Excellent seats in mezzanine, what a wonderful evening with Mozart’s Requiem. The GR Symphony is world class, the choir shook the hall…i was absolutely transported throughout! My friend claimed it ended too soon. I agreed. Many thanks for a splendid evening.

    Masterful symphony

by Kel on 3/27/23DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

The event started out with Bach's Art of the Fugue, a difficult and mind blowing piece that the artists handled with precision and joy. The music passed over us, back and forth, with humor and sensitivity. Perfect. Bach was followed by Mozart's resounding Requiem. Dark, brooding, the music swelled and opened to fill Devos Hall with sound I have rarely heard. The GR chorus was brilliant. The lovely tones of the soprano led the singers followed by the strong and beautiful bass. Next the Alto and Mezzo joined the entire group and blew us all away. It was a night we will never forget and can only hope the symphony will repeat!

    Better than expected

by Manny on 3/6/23DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

It was great. Not only the Music, the all the acrobatics, dancing, gymnastics.....all the visuals. Once in a while I would forget about the music, which was not a good thing, because they were playing so wonderfully. That was a drawback. But, it was once great show!!!! Loved The Pops!

    Pleasure

by Paul on 2/27/23Royce Auditorium at St. Cecilia Music Center - Grand Rapids

St. Cecilia is a lovely and intimate venue for a chamber concert. Loved the conductor and his friendly enthusiasm! Interesting program of jazz and Beethoven.
