About

Graham Nash in Concert

Graham Nash's long and tuneful career includes his singing with the Hollies' bright British folk-pop, the tightly harmonized classic folk-rock of Crosby, Stills & Nash (& Young), and his own deeply personal singer-songwriter albums.

Born in 1942 in war-scarred northern England, Nash was always on a high, at least vocally. He began singing airy tenor harmonies as a teenager alongside school friend Allan Clarke, and the pair co-founded the Hollies named after Texas rocker Buddy Holly in 1962. Nash-Clarke creations such as "On a Carousel," "Bus Stop," and "Jennifer Eccles" are just a few of the Merseybeat combo's more than 30 charting singles.

Following a life-changing evening of music at soon-to-be-girlfriend Joni Mitchell's Hollywood Hills home in 1968, Nash left everything behind to cast his fate with former Byrds member David Crosby and former Buffalo Springfield member Stephen Stills as Crosby, Stills & Nash. Nash's "Marrakesh Express" and "Lady of the Island," an ode to Mitchell, made the supergroup's 1969 debut album an American folk-rock classic.

The trio wouldn't record another album until 1977's CSN. Nash found a creative outlet in the luminous Songs for Beginners, the first of several solo albums, and Graham Nash David Crosby, which launched the duo's productive longtime partnership onstage and in the studio.

Nash is both a romantic and an activist. His ravishing love songs are counterbalanced by politically engaged material like "Military Madness," "Chicago," "Barrel of Pain," "Soldiers of Peace," and "Immigration Man."

A photo collector since the early 1970s, Nash auctioned off more than 2,000 prints through Sotheby's in 1990 for $2.4 million, a record amount for a single collection of photographs. "Recycling is fun," Nash commented as iconic images by Diane Arbus and Ansel Adams found new owners.

Inspired by a major life change, the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee released This Path Tonight, his first solo album in 14 years, in 2016. In 2018, he released Over the Years, a career-spanning anthology. He's back on the road again and singing better than ever.

"I want my audience to know two things," Nash told Songwriting. "One, I want to be there for them... And the second thing I want is to see them smiling on the way out. That's when I know that I've done my job as a musician."

Graham: thumbs up; sound engineer: thumbs down

by Jimmy on 6/21/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Graham was good, especially the songs and stories but the sound of the mix was poor. The first couple songs, audio wise, sounded horrible. The sound was cleaned up from there but still wasn't close to the usual standard at this venue (Humphreys). It was a disappointment.

    Beautiful Evening

by Paula on 6/21/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

I had never been to Humphrey's and will definitely return. At 81, Graham Nash played for 2 hours. He also regaled us with funny stories. Very impressive!

    Teacher

by Jenny on 6/21/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

At Humphrey By The Bay- Sun June 19, 2023. The restroom situation was incredibly insufficient for a huge crowd- well over 400- of concert goers. There was 2 single private restrooms on one side with 37 people in line. There were guards at those two doors and no redirection to another restroom when asked. The bathroom line took 20 minutes in the 2nd half. Totally inexcusable for $125 tickets!

Really enjoyed the music. But what made it very special was Graham's storytelling. Great venue but really need more restrooms!

Great Music-Budget Airline Seating Not So Much

by Linda on 6/21/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

The show was great. Lots of music and olenty of stories. I wish the venue would consider making the seating a bit more roomy. Folding chairs lashed together with zip ties so close that a row needs to empty in order for someone to move through to their seat.

    slow to get in

by chase mileage on 6/21/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

The new security procedures plus only two people scanning Apple Wallet passes (also new) really slowed down the entrance process.

    Delightful!

by Kelly O on 6/21/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

So glad I bought these tickets, late last year and that the show was at Humphrey's in San Diego which is so convenient parking-wise, staying the night-wise, dinner and breakfast-wise. Graham Nash--what can I say? He's my favorite of C, S, N and Y and it was a "pinch me" experience to see, hear and feel him in that intimate setting. He's still gorgeous. There was great nostalgia in his performance but his present presence is precious as well. It was a beautiful and memorable night!

    Awesome Show Thanks Graham Nash

by LidoNY on 6/21/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

He still sounds great, loved his set list, my seats had a good view but we’re terribly uncomfortable.

    Great performance, so-so venue

by Lu on 6/21/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Graham Nash at 81 still has the vocals and interaction with the audience telling back stories lto songs he's written. Though the location on the bay is gorgeous, the venue crowded people in on plastic folding chairs with long lines for refreshments and at port-a-potties. For the price of concert tickets, concert goers (and Nash) deserve better.

    Definitely worth going…

by Jay on 6/21/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

This is a really well constructed setlist and perfect balance of songs and stories. Amazing ride through Graham’s musical and life journey, and a great mix of his songs and some others of importance to him. He looks and sounds great. Loved every song and although he played 22 or more tunes, there were probably another dozen out there that he couldn’t get to. One of those shows that you need to see. He’s still got it

    Terrific Performance by Graham Nash

by JudoGary on 6/21/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

He sounded as excellent as always and his two back-ups Chad and Shane sang played perfect harmony. Shane's guitar skills are at superior. The show consisted of 22 songs covering many CSN, CSNY, Hollies, Buddy Holly, even the Beatles! I've been at many of his concerts by himself and with the the others and can honestly say that at 81 years old, Graham still got it!

    Graham Nash Rocks

by Honsteve on 5/15/23The Cabot - Beverly

Graham Nash put on one of the all time great concerts at the packed Cabot Theatre on Thursday night. He and his two spectacular sidemen had the fortunate attendees singing along and on our feet all night. Nash explained the origin and underlying meaning of each song in detail and with great humor, which added to our satisfaction. We wouldn’t let him go, and he and the group played on… Wonderful night!

    Stories of CSN&Y days

by Becke on 5/14/23The Cabot - Beverly

Personal stories give meaning and depth to the songs an artist creates, and Graham Nash engaged the audience for 2+ hours with his stories and music. We all knew the catalogue, and we were all pulled into the craziness of our coming of age in the 70's, of love and loss, the trials of personality collisions of 4 highly talented musicians. Three on stage delivered an exceptional evening!

by Gary on 5/14/23The Cabot - Beverly

From the opening song through the 4 encores Graham Nash performed and sounded impeccable with his arrangements and vocal performances. Hard to imagine a more precise and well executed song list of hits by a performer! Masterful!

    great depth

by mark on 5/14/23Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - Bethel

Graham Nash put on an amazing show. Keyboards and two guitars. Sounds just as good as the 70s and 80s. A true professional. I enjoyed it even more in the intimate setting of Bethel Woods in their event gallery. Like having a world class musician play for you in your backyard.
