About

Graham Nash in Concert

Graham Nash's long and tuneful career includes his singing with the Hollies' bright British folk-pop, the tightly harmonized classic folk-rock of Crosby, Stills & Nash (& Young), and his own deeply personal singer-songwriter albums.

Born in 1942 in war-scarred northern England, Nash was always on a high, at least vocally. He began singing airy tenor harmonies as a teenager alongside school friend Allan Clarke, and the pair co-founded the Hollies named after Texas rocker Buddy Holly in 1962. Nash-Clarke creations such as "On a Carousel," "Bus Stop," and "Jennifer Eccles" are just a few of the Merseybeat combo's more than 30 charting singles.

Following a life-changing evening of music at soon-to-be-girlfriend Joni Mitchell's Hollywood Hills home in 1968, Nash left everything behind to cast his fate with former Byrds member David Crosby and former Buffalo Springfield member Stephen Stills as Crosby, Stills & Nash. Nash's "Marrakesh Express" and "Lady of the Island," an ode to Mitchell, made the supergroup's 1969 debut album an American folk-rock classic.

The trio wouldn't record another album until 1977's CSN. Nash found a creative outlet in the luminous Songs for Beginners, the first of several solo albums, and Graham Nash David Crosby, which launched the duo's productive longtime partnership onstage and in the studio.

Nash is both a romantic and an activist. His ravishing love songs are counterbalanced by politically engaged material like "Military Madness," "Chicago," "Barrel of Pain," "Soldiers of Peace," and "Immigration Man."

A photo collector since the early 1970s, Nash auctioned off more than 2,000 prints through Sotheby's in 1990 for $2.4 million, a record amount for a single collection of photographs. "Recycling is fun," Nash commented as iconic images by Diane Arbus and Ansel Adams found new owners.

Inspired by a major life change, the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee released This Path Tonight, his first solo album in 14 years, in 2016. In 2018, he released Over the Years, a career-spanning anthology. He's back on the road again and singing better than ever.

"I want my audience to know two things," Nash told Songwriting. "One, I want to be there for them... And the second thing I want is to see them smiling on the way out. That's when I know that I've done my job as a musician."

    Graham Nash at the Bijou

by Mike B on 11/16/23Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

Great venue and concert. Small and perfect for a close up and personal visit with one of the legends of the past. Loved that Graham played all the hit oldies and narrated his way through both sets with historic backgrounds involving the origin of many of his and CSNYs creative and popular blasts from the past. Highly recommended! A+++++++++++++++

    Thank you Graham!

by attheryman on 11/16/23Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

I have seen Graham several times and this show was not like any other time because he took the songs and made them sound like new. We all love and know the songs but this time it is Graham helping us feel it anew. That is what the greats do, and he is great, having taken the songs from eras of his life and ours to create an exhilarating visceral experience. It is Graham showing us an appreciation of a well lived life that continues with fresh eyes and whole hearted excellence. The musical sounds from him and his band were chilling at times because these songs, this artist, is unique with harmony and knowing the uplifted human spirit.

Graham Nash combines his generous spirit with his musical gifts to create a unique concert each time we have been lucky enough to see him in Knoxville. His immense talent and his warm personality create a one of a kind memorable concert experience. The personal stories he tells are funny and poignant. His performance is moving and you leave uplifted not just entertained. We count ourselves blessed to have enjoyed two concerts with this good man and greatly talented musician.

    Graham Nash

by Rich on 11/16/23Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

Graham Nash and his band were incredible. I have seen hundreds of concerts in many genres and venues but the experience at Bijou with one of my generations’ icons was truly inspirational. Not only was the playlist representative of Nash’s songwriting genius, but the vocals and musicianship were amazing.

    Graham still has it!

by Bw on 6/24/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Graham’s voice is still very good. Especially for 81 years old. I’ve never seen a performance done without a drummer before. Although I must say, the three of them still sounded very good. You can tell that Graham does not have the energy that he did from years past. But the show is still very entertaining. Like I said his voice is still very good. I wished he would’ve played immigration man. But he still sang most of his hits

    A Concert for the Ages

by K. D. on 6/22/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

I will forever remember and cherish this intimate, unpretentious, joyful, irreverent, evening of music that I have loved for five decades with Graham Nash and his two compadres. There is only one Graham Nash and I got to spent an evening with him. I will watch and share the iPhone video's I took until I join his brother, David.

    It Was Nice

by Bernardo on 6/22/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

In short, Graham Nash was everything I expected, and his sidemen were top-notch. However, the sound quality at Humphreys on the Bay was much less than top-notch. I've always had good experiences at Humphrey's; much of that due to the usually excellent sound quality, something unusual for an outdoor venue. This time the sound was just bad. It was annoyingly tinny and remarkably unbalanced. I realize there were no drums or bass, but the acoustic guitar buried the lead guitar and keys, with no bass to carry the sound. Strangely, the singing vocals were ample, but a big part of the show was Graham telling stories about his rock and roll life. When he spoke between songs, one could hardly hear him. I could hear the screeches of the seagulls flying over better than Graham speaking. Many around us were yelling for his mic to be turned up or asking what did he say? I don't know what happened, Humphrey's, but the sound engineer(s) dropped the ball on what should have been a great experience.

    Such a moving experience

by Alagria on 6/22/23Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Graham Nash is a consummate musician and will always give a great show. At Humphreys he exceeded all expectations. We were thrilled to hear Graham sing his own songs, Hollies songs, CS&N songs, CSN&Y songs, and even a Beatles song. We were on the edge of our seats and on our feet the whole time. Graham Nash gave a wonderful, memory-making concert and we are so grateful.

Graham told wonderful stories about his amazing career while singing his very deep song repertoire . He also played many of his, and definitely my favorite songs of his contemporaries. A very warm and intimate evening that I would recommend to anyone
