About

GORDON LIGHTFOOT IN CONCERT:

Legendary singer-songwriter and folk-pop pioneer Gordon Lightfoot helped define the sound of '60s folk with his rootsy voice and politically-minded songs. A half a century later, Lightfoot continues to be a beacon of authenticity, taking the stage with little more than a mic and his trusty twelve-string guitar to deliver no-frills renditions of laid-back, wide-eyed classics like "Sundown" and "Sit Down Young Stranger." Joined by a talented band of backing players for his upcoming tour, Lightfoot will lead fans on a golden-toned stroll down memory lane.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Ontario-born Gordon Lightfoot got an early start in music, performing in church choirs during his youth and making his first appearance at Toronto's historic Massey Hall at just age 12. After teaching himself folk guitar in high school, Lightfoot spent some time in Hollywood studying jazz and orchestration before moving back to Toronto in 1960 and cutting his teeth in the city's coffee house music scene. Regional early-'60s hits like "Remember Me (I'm the One)" and "Negotiations" helped build his reputation as a songwriter, and before long a variety of high-profile artists -- including Elvis Presley and Peter, Paul, and Mary -- were recording versions of his songs. His biggest success as a solo artist came in the '70s, when he topped Canadian charts with four albums and scored his first US No. 1 with 1974's "Sundown." With 19 studio albums and more than five decades' worth of touring under his belt, Lightfoot brings plenty of experience with him on the road as he sets out for another round of tour dates.

    Great Experience

by Carol on 9/29/22Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

Absolutely enjoyed Gordon Lightfoot. He's remarkably good. Did an 1 1/2 hr show without a break and stood the whole time and did not miss a lyric. Very glad we wnet and great seats. Only disappointment was the opening act. This was not stated in the purchase of tickets for the show and should have been.

    He’s getting old.

by Gene P on 9/29/22Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

We always enjoyed his music back in the 70’s and decided to go for a nostalgic trip back in time. Unfortunately, Gordon’s voice is very weak and we couldn’t understand most of the lyrics. He does have an excellent lead guitarist but, overall, it was disappointing.

I always wanted to see Gordon Lightfoot and I finally got the chance to do so. He sang his hits and others not so readily known. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Great Band, Could not hear the Vocals

by The Puck on 9/29/22Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

The venue was beautiful The warmup band was good. Gordon Lightfoot Was sad It's hard to imagine a man with such a powerful voice has been reduced by age. I hope there was something wrong with the mic. I Love your music and you Gordon I hope you don't take offence about my comments. I will always be a Gordon Lightfoot fan and will always listen to your music.

    It’s a beautiful theater

by Irsheyes614 on 9/29/22Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

Gordon Lightfoot just wasn’t good. I spent a lot of money and he really shouldn’t be performing in my opinion.I’m happy listening to his music just not live ☹️

    Can’t sing anymore

by Judy on 9/29/22Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

The concert was sad. Gordon is 83 and cannot sing anymore. I couldn’t understand him when he was telling stories before the songs. His backup musicians were good and the Rialto is a beautiful venue, but Gordon is so frail and looks ill. I understand he likes to tour but he should retire and get some rest.

    Gordon Lightfoot

by Gleny on 9/29/22Coronado Performing Arts Center - Rockford

Only a shadow of his former self show was fair not bad for being 83 years young. He sang all of his hits and did a fair job

by MrsRP on 9/29/22Coronado Performing Arts Center - Rockford

Kudos to Mr. Lightfoot for still performing at his age, but I think he should have retired years ago. His voice was weak and he was a little hard to understand. We were disappointed in the performance.

    Aging rocker

by Bigmac on 9/29/22Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

We still enjoyed the show, but Gordon needs to use backup singers to fill in the gaps of his voice. We love his music and celebrate his energy, but his voice is failing him. The warmup act was great (Jack Schneider), and the theater is beautiful.

    Unmatched bravery

    by J. P. on 9/28/22

Here is the truth: Gordon cannot sing like he used to. However, he is a legend and the fact that he is still touring is unimaginable. I am very happy I saw him in concert. Peace to you man.

    Gordon Lightfoot

by Mary on 9/27/22Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

Gordon was great. The light show in the background was a distraction. It should be toned down or left out altogether. Gordon is the star... that's where the focus should be.
