About

GORDON LIGHTFOOT IN CONCERT:

Legendary singer-songwriter and folk-pop pioneer Gordon Lightfoot helped define the sound of '60s folk with his rootsy voice and politically-minded songs. A half a century later, Lightfoot continues to be a beacon of authenticity, taking the stage with little more than a mic and his trusty twelve-string guitar to deliver no-frills renditions of laid-back, wide-eyed classics like "Sundown" and "Sit Down Young Stranger." Joined by a talented band of backing players for his upcoming tour, Lightfoot will lead fans on a golden-toned stroll down memory lane.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Ontario-born Gordon Lightfoot got an early start in music, performing in church choirs during his youth and making his first appearance at Toronto's historic Massey Hall at just age 12. After teaching himself folk guitar in high school, Lightfoot spent some time in Hollywood studying jazz and orchestration before moving back to Toronto in 1960 and cutting his teeth in the city's coffee house music scene. Regional early-'60s hits like "Remember Me (I'm the One)" and "Negotiations" helped build his reputation as a songwriter, and before long a variety of high-profile artists -- including Elvis Presley and Peter, Paul, and Mary -- were recording versions of his songs. His biggest success as a solo artist came in the '70s, when he topped Canadian charts with four albums and scored his first US No. 1 with 1974's "Sundown." With 19 studio albums and more than five decades' worth of touring under his belt, Lightfoot brings plenty of experience with him on the road as he sets out for another round of tour dates.

    Disappointing!

by Heffcat on 10/31/22Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

He had to sit down seven words into the first song. Everyone thought he was going to die. I think he should’ve quit touring when he could still sing the songs the way he used to. I would’ve rather remembered him that way. Maybe he should take up fishing.

    His performance was heartwarming!

by Linda on 10/29/22Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

It started with “I can’t do this”. After walking out on stage, we all thought it wasn’t going to happen. Gordon Lightfoot looked so frail but continued after taking a chair, a few breaths of oxygen and some water. He continued with his hit songs that we all love albeit with a little weaker than we would have liked. He also reminisced of his old Canadian friends Ian Tyson and Anne Murray and spoke of his attempt at meeting Elvis where upon arriving in Buffalo he was told by Tom Parker that “Elvis has left the building”. He stated he did meet Elvis a few years later. All in all it was good to see this old timer but it was an 83 year old, very frail man on stage. I don’t know if this tour will continue but just seeing him was heartwarming!!

    Gordon Lightfoot, the Legend

by Dood on 10/29/22Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

The show was fantastic. Gord struggled to stand and missed a few notes. But at 84 years old his performance was superb. We would have hated to have missed it. Brought tears to our eyes. What an icon!! The venue, Grey Eagle Entertainment Center, is super. Well organized and good seating. The parking was a challenge but the lot is under construction but when finished should be much better. I used TICKETMASTER for the first time and very impressed. Everything went without a hitch and was very prompt. I downloaded the app and plan on using much more frequently.

    Gordon Lightfoot

by Fat-biker on 10/29/22Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

After a shaky start Gord settled in and gave a show that was pretty darn good for a man who is 83 years young. His storytelling was awesome and he pulled it off. The venue is so so. Sound is good but the floor seating leaves something to be desired.

A legend but a pretty rough outing

by LangdonFan on 10/29/22Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

Was kinda tough to watch a legend struggle through the show, I hope is feeling better from here on out.

    A Legend

by Mags on 10/29/22Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

The Event was as advertised. However the getting to the event was atrocious. I do not like to be late so we should have had plenty of time but traffic getting in was awful. There should be Police or Traffic Director on the highway before the entrance. Through traffic was blocking the intersection which allowed only one person to turn on each green light. We ended up being 20 minutes late as parking also was a nightmare!! The flow was definitely something to be desired.

    Amazing !!

by Sharkey on 10/25/22The Meeting House - Oakville

While it is understandable and honestly nearly unfathomable that Gordon Lightfoot is still singing after having been diagnosed with emphysema, so his voice is not what it once was, just the experience of having been there was amazing. My husband has always had seeing him in concert on his bucket list, and while we purchased the meet-and-greet tickets (and were disappointed that with Covid we were not able to meet him) just being there was enough for him. Gordon told stories, and interacted with the audience and were were a part of that as we had front row centre tickets. He is an amazing person who seems to have gone through quite a life. It is great that he is willing to share some of that with his fans. Had he been younger, we would likely have gone to a number of his concerts, however this is likely the only chance we will have. Greatest respect to see him still touring and sharing with the public.

    Very Disappointed

by Cabf on 10/1/22Peoria Civic Center - Peoria

I was very excited to attend this Gordon Lightfoot concert, but the whole concert was very disappointing. With all the beautiful song hits Gordon Lightfoot had, when he performed them you couldn’t make out the lyrics. He was very hard to understand when he sang and also when he spoke - slurred his words terribly :(

    Dead Man On Stage

by Frank's on 9/30/22Peoria Civic Center - Peoria

To begin with.. our seats were not as I chose when ordering. I NEVER choose a seat in the center of a row. Next at 8:15pm, 2 men come out with acoustic guitars dressed in their 1970s polyester suits to open for Gordon. Their names are announced an the entire audience looks around puzzled. Every song they sang was same tempo and literally was enough to put you to sleep. Horrible opening act if you desire to get the audience pumped up for a legend's appearance. Then comes Gordon, The Legend. Respectfully, you could barely hear or understand him. He was only doing partial songs for some of them. Great band with him! It was surreal to say the least. Out of respect you don't want to laugh, but the show was very laughable and extremely sad at the same time. A couple times it appeared he was going to fall over backwards. Sprays his Flonase into the air. Shoots a couple puffs up his nostrils. Then begins singing again. Mostly inaudible singing. I paid $300 for 2 tickets and my daughter and I left the show by 9 pm becasue we couldn't take it any longer. HUGE DISAPPOINMENT!

    Disappointment

by Maxwell on 9/30/22Peoria Civic Center - Peoria

This show was a falsely advertised show and was a great disappointment. Gordon was a great artist in his time, but has no right to be performing at his age. Gordon’s voice for singing is raspy and hard to even understand what the words are to the songs. Basically the show sounded like karaoke night at a nursing home with artist of the night to sing to is Gordon Lightfoot. Some songs just stopped or cut short. It will be very long time before I go to another concert at the Peoria civic center. The promoter of this show should be fined for how this show was advertised. We as well as others walked out of the concert within the first 15 minutes. Civic Center staff was asking us as well as other why were leaving. We were told our experience matched the others and the staff apologized for our experience.

    Decent show

by Dms on 9/30/22Peoria Civic Center - Peoria

Gordon needs to hang it up. His range wasn’t there. Cut a lot of songs short. I know he’s in his 80’s but it’s time to stop.

    He’s a legend

by Sundown on 9/30/22Peoria Civic Center - Peoria

I would have been happy to have met the best songwriter of all time and maybe watched him play 2 or 3 songs instead of watching Mr. Lightfoot struggle. He is beyond his prime, and while it was okay to pay tribute to him, the show just isn’t good

    Voice is gone

by EIU on 9/30/22Peoria Civic Center - Peoria

Gordon's voice is nothing like it used to be. I understand he is in his 80's and I admire his desire to continue to perform, but he should not charge money for his concert.

Great venue for an awesome concert.

by Mrslew on 9/29/22Coronado Performing Arts Center - Rockford

I went in realizing Gordon was 83 years old and not expecting him to sound like he did 40 years ago. Knowing that, the mysic was great and the performance was good. I hope he is touring for his love of performing his music because it would be sad to think at 83 he may be touring for the monry.

    The Wreck

by Mrs. O on 9/29/22Coronado Performing Arts Center - Rockford

The warmup duo was amazing! Gordon Lightfoot is an icon. His band is stellar. Unfortunately, his lung power is diminished, so the show was a bit of a letdown. Have been attending his performances for nearly 40 years. His sense of humor, and guitar skills are still intact. Watched his documentary, and was hoping for the best. Wish he would have had someone help him with the vocals. All in all, still good to see him perform.
