    Goldfrapp - Epic Show!

by mojomogul on 6/27/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Longtime fan & was not disappointed at all! She did a great job layering the old stuff with the new stuff, double encore with 'Strict Machine' as a strong finale. Costumes were awesome; she did 2 changes. Props to her guitarist for switching to violin/acoustic/electric (12 string even) and synth guitar! At one point the keyboardist was also rocking out for some double synth-guitar action; I almost bought stock in GE on my Motorola Dynatac 8000!

Allison Goldfrapp is a Solid Gold Diva!!

by GlamHallucination on 6/27/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The concert was amazing. Goldfrapp did not disappoint. Allison's voice was at times gravelly, feathery, or clear. The woman knows how to work her voice, it was a pleasure seeing her totally possessed by the music. It was my first time seeing them, so I opted to stand as close to the stage as possible, but next time around I'm standing where the acoustics are better. I regret that I was so excited to see them I didn't stand back a bit so I could hear the lyrics clearly. That being said: the band was amazing, the costumes were something out of an 80's/Disco hallucination. The band handled a very small stage malfunction totally professionally, with good humor (at least from what I saw.) These people are professionals: don't expect Allison to wildly dance, she's busy singing not lip-syncing. My only regret is that they didn't play Satin Chic... :(

    Fantastic!!!

by WrathoKracko on 6/27/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Alison was PERFECT! Her voice was the best I've ever heard it, and the rest of the band was totally on point, even in the middle of Train when the tunnel deflated temporarily. The opening act was a bit too long for my taste, although I don't have much of a taste for monotonous rave/trance music so I'm just biased.

Her voice was amazing. Especially, when she was singing Utopia. I almost fainted.

    Good Show

    by 2Old4Disco on 6/27/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Goldfrapp played a fairly long set. Lots of songs. It was quite good, I'm just not sure that I like the direction that Goldfrapp has gone with the latest album. Little too "Disco". I like the older stuff a lot more than the new Lady Gaga (only with TALENT) styled stuff.

    Goldfrapp delivers the goods!

    by Ronski333 on 6/27/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

i was so glad I decided to go to this show. Alison's is projecting better on stage than ever and the sound was much stronger than in previous shows, though I've always been very impressed. They've just taken it up a notch perhaps for larger venues as their fanbase continues to grow. Rocket, Train, Ooh-la-la, Utopia, Strict Machine, Black Cherry, A&E, etc. Who else can present such a varied ouevre as convincingly as Goldfrapp? I'd really like to know.

    Goldfrapp keeps getting better

by DBPeters on 6/27/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The show last night was amazing. More so having attended her first tour and each subsequent show since then. While Alison has demonstrated a lot of range on her releases, live, focusing on the electronic pop side of their repertoire kept people on their feet and engaged throughout.

    Goldfrapp is awesome!

    by Jinkx101 on 6/27/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Go see the band if you have a chance. All the members had great energy and overall it was a great show. The only bad part was the show started an hour late.

    Great concert

by Goldfrappfanatic on 6/27/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Ok, concert was great...I love Goldfrapp. Performances were excellent and song choices were good. They of course focused heavily on the material from the new album, performing every song from the new album except for Hunt, and Voicething (though Voicething was used as the intro music coming onto stage). Gripes were few - the opening act, a DJ was excellent, but it was 60 minutes and got somewhat monotonous by halfway through...no one really seemed into it after that, it was just too long. I think it didn't help that DJs are not visually exciting and there were no lighting/stage effects for him. I wish Goldfrapp had done a little more from the Felt Mountain era, they only did one song, Utopia, from it. Overall I would say the set was very dance heavy and it was clear they were avoiding some of their softer/introspective works. But that's not really a complaint, just an observation. Oh funny thing at about the mid point in their set the backdrop on their stage (an inflated silver spaceship-meets-donut) started to deflate and collapse. They played right through and the stagehands scrambled and got it fixed. Oh yeah, this has nothing to do with the concert per-se, but OMG - apparently if you want to eat dinner in downtown Oakland, you are stuck with Korean food...eating venues were very sparse within a 10 block radius and to be honest the few that were even open did not look appetizing at all, quite dirty and uncared for. OK, in closing, I can't wait to see them again, they are fantastic!

felt like a cheesy music video

by karaq on 6/27/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I left after 5-6 songs. I like her Seventh Tree album, but I felt that there was too much programmed music for a live show. It felt like the band pressed play and they were playing along to layered tracks. Not an exciting experience and zero spontaneity. Boring musicianship... The lighting was not particularly original...

Can a dance party be emotional?

by Lamesy on 6/27/10Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Goldfrapp gave us the best of the best, playing straight danceable hits from start to finish. They saved two ballads for the encore, before hitting us with two final floor fillers (Rocket and Strict Machine). Honestly the ballads were redundant because her voice humanizes even the most computerized beats. Alison's powerhouse siren call held its own against even the loudest, highest pitch synthesizers (Train). Not the most elaborate light show, but the stark strobe action made it feel like a massive underground party. Plus Alison had some cute giggly asides that showed us her personality. An all-around ideal concert!
