Ok, concert was great...I love Goldfrapp. Performances were excellent and song choices were good. They of course focused heavily on the material from the new album, performing every song from the new album except for Hunt, and Voicething (though Voicething was used as the intro music coming onto stage). Gripes were few - the opening act, a DJ was excellent, but it was 60 minutes and got somewhat monotonous by halfway through...no one really seemed into it after that, it was just too long. I think it didn't help that DJs are not visually exciting and there were no lighting/stage effects for him. I wish Goldfrapp had done a little more from the Felt Mountain era, they only did one song, Utopia, from it. Overall I would say the set was very dance heavy and it was clear they were avoiding some of their softer/introspective works. But that's not really a complaint, just an observation. Oh funny thing at about the mid point in their set the backdrop on their stage (an inflated silver spaceship-meets-donut) started to deflate and collapse. They played right through and the stagehands scrambled and got it fixed. Oh yeah, this has nothing to do with the concert per-se, but OMG - apparently if you want to eat dinner in downtown Oakland, you are stuck with Korean food...eating venues were very sparse within a 10 block radius and to be honest the few that were even open did not look appetizing at all, quite dirty and uncared for. OK, in closing, I can't wait to see them again, they are fantastic!
