About

Godsmack were a big part of the late ’90s hard rock revival, and they’ve continued to lead the way for legacy rock acts with three No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, 28 Top 10 singles on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, three Grammy nominations and over 20 million albums sold worldwide. The quartet formed in Lawrence, Massachusetts in 1995 and played their first shows in Boston bars before recording their 1997 independent album, All Wound Up…, which was later reworked as their quadruple-platinum, major label debut, Godsmack, in 1998. The band’s profile grew as they joined the Ozzfest tour in 1999 and 2000, dropped their sophomore album Awake on Halloween 2000 and earned their first two No. 1 singles on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart with the album’s title track and 2002’s “I Stand Alone” from The Scorpion King soundtrack. Ahead of the release of 2003’s Faceless, Godsmack assembled their long-standing core lineup of founding members Sully Erna and Robbie Merrill along with guitarist Tony Rombola and drummer Shannon Larkin. The album kicked off a three-album streak of Billboard 200 No. 1 debuts including 2006’s IV and 2010’s The Oracle. The band collected their second career platinum-certified single with “Bulletproof” off 2018’s When Legends Rise, which reached the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. In 2023, the band unveiled their eighth studio album, Lighting Up the Sky.

I thought the bands they had there were awesome. The only thing that I didn't like was that I think they had too many people there for such a small place

    Great Bands

by Nodrinkanddrive on 5/17/10National Balloon Classic Launch Field - Indianola

All the bands were great and put on amazing shows. Alice Cooper had some crazy acts as did Rob Zombie and made the night! I wish I could have stayed till the end of Godsmack but I was worried about getting out of the parking lot in less than two hours!

    One helluva good time!!

by Puppetz86 on 5/17/10National Balloon Classic Launch Field - Indianola

Considering I'm one of those snobby overachieving academic types with a special taste for heavy metal and rock, it was rather out of the ordinary that I sacrificed time for preparing for final exams to see some of the best acts in rock history. It was well worth making the trip from Davenport, IA to see them! One band was all it took to get me going--Godsmack--but all the other acts were also some sweet icing on the cake. I never thought Papa Roach could put on such a spectacular show. They knocked me flat on my ass, and I would absolutely consider getting their new album when it comes out. Oh, and dare I forget the godly presence of Alice Cooper whose music transcends generations! I really was glad to hear him play "Poison," one of my favorite rock songs of all time. And although I was not really all that familiar with Three Days Grace, I was familiar with their one song "Animal I Have Become," and did follow along with the crowd; but when Godsmack took the stage, I was blown away. I even hopped in to the mosh pit for a first. Everything was really fun, even though the shuttle bus situation was not well-coordinated, and we got a little rained on while waiting. The drunken old Santa Claus hobo man, who

All of the bands were amazing but Alice Cooper and Seether were to DIE FOR! Alice's showmanship has proven nothing less than pure artistry! 18 rocked! It was worth the cold and rain just to see him! Seether sounded so real and pure- awesome!

    An event of unmeasurable awesomeness!!

by TyTy135 on 5/17/10National Balloon Classic Launch Field - Indianola

This concert was probably the greatest one I have ever been to! Once you got in, the atmosphere was just incredible! Everyone was having a great time! The food was also incredible for taste and cost-wise. The bands were absolutely amazing and could be heard for miles! The bus service that shuttled people from the mall to the concert took a while to get people from the line to the concert. Also, once you got to the balloon field, there was a massive line waiting to get in! 2010 was the first year that Lazerfest sold out and I was honored to be a part of that! 25,000 people showed up to enjoy these amazing bands and I had the time of my life here!

by DCKustomz on 5/17/10National Balloon Classic Launch Field - Indianola

I loved this show! A little crowded, but overall a great show! Alice Cooper was amazing! Halestorm kicked ass!!! Just like last year. Actually, seemed better than last year. I've been to 3 Lazerfests now and this was by far the wildest to date! Hell, I even remember the Lazer Luaus in Ankeny and this year's show was the best yet! Keep it up Lazer!!!!

The shows were great! I showed up just when Skillet was starting, and was impressed with their show. FFDP, Papa Roach, Seether, and Drowning Pool all gave good shows, and great music. I'm not a huge fan of Hellya, so I took the time to use the restroom and eat. The restrooms needed to be pumped in the worst way, so that was discusting. Alice Cooper is a legend, and he puts on an amazing show, but I was not completely taken by the music. Rob Zombie wins my best show award, and had all great music. I rocked every moment of 3 days grace, they tie Rob Zombie for the best set list. I had really come for Godsmack, and I left a little dissapointed. While I loved that all but one of their songs were old ones, I feel that they could have shortened the drum duet and played even more. There were still songs that I wanted to hear. All in all, a great concert, with Rob Zombie being my favorite. I will definitely be there next year for sure.

I was unable to stay for the entire event, however what I was able to be there for was awesome! Skillett was great as usual! I have alwaysbee a fan of Drowning Pool but had never had a chance to see them or 5FDP but I am now an even bigger fan than before. Papa Roach and Hellyeah were both great. The highlight for me was seeing Seether, love Shaun Morgan! They are always a great show! And then Alice Cooper, how awersome, definately a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Lazerfest was great. The bands were amazing and we really liked how everything ran on time! The only complaint would be with the bathroom situation. They need alot more for the amount of people that were there.

    Lazerfest rocked my socks off

by Pixi1313 on 5/17/10National Balloon Classic Launch Field - Indianola

This year was my very first lazerfest, I am a new resident of Iowa and the rock scene wasn't the greatest until I discovered this. So, to stay short and sweet, Lazerfest 2010 was AMAZING and I highly recommend it to everyone else!

the event was too crowded. the number of people allowed into the event needs to be cut down. there was no way to escape the crowds. i stood in a food line for an hour and when i got up to the window they closed down b/c they had run out of food. there weren't enough resources, or space for that matter, for the amount of people let in to the event. the bands themselves were amazing! but the logistics need to be fixed for next year.
