DJ kept the energy up all night! Played great tunes! (though not all were disco.)
It was ok they kinda just played o random songs from the 70s I was expecting more iconic disco songs like Donna summer, the BGs , kc and the sunshine. They didn’t play any of them :/
Such a fun night! No big complaints or anything. definitely recommend
Not sure if it was just the dj my show had but he didn’t actually do anything fun or special just queued up songs and played them for the entire length and didn’t keep the crowd excited. After two hours of being there he only played 3 ABBA songs. Just weird to consider it an abba inspired and based disco but barely play songs. Would’ve been a lot more fun to have an actual dj and mixer there.
I had the experience of watching this show at Pier 17. It was excellent. This time the place was old, ugly and strange. There was nobody.
I love gimme gimme disco but cancel it the day before without let us know when there will be the make up day and let the people buy the ticket until the last minutes ( the Celtics game had the date out since a lot ) it was really unprofessional. I don’t if it was fault of the location but anyways the organization too could do something more for let us less disappointed.
I love going to the disco when it’s in town because the vibes are great and the DJ is very interactive!!
It started out good as we are the age era of the true Disco. We lost interest when she started playing teeny bop stuff we didn’t know and left early. The DJ was great though
Disappointed, most of the music was not 70's disco.... ( a few remakes of Disco) Then 80's / 90's. DJ was too young to know true 70's Disco.
I'm a tall (6'5") ABBA fanatic! I love Gimme Gimme Disco! I was a little disappointed they didn't play my request though. I couldn't stay off that stage all night. I wish they could play longer than 3 hours. Less non-disco songs too. I wore an ABBA tribute t-shirt that night. I loved the enthusiasm from the crowd on the floor center too. I will keep attending these events as they keep coming. If you attended, you saw me (lol).
Paid $35 entry was told that the event was going until 1am everyone was kicked out at midnight. My party and I got there around 10:30 thinking we had more time so paid that much to be there for about an hour.
Me and my girlfriend had the best night and best experience. We dance a lot and great music too played. We will definitely come back again in a nearby city.
Honestly so much fun. Hayley was an incredible MC and got the crowd going so hard. Most fun I've had in a long time ❤️
The DJ did not mix any music, they played straight off a playlist. Everyone would stand awkwardly between songs in silence. The people in the crowd made the vibe but there was nothing of interest. They play the whole songs, no transitions and no mixing.
I went to a “Gimme Gimme Disco” night in April of 2023 and it was hands down one of the funnest events I’ve been to. Therefore when I saw there was another one scheduled, I was very excited to go again. However, I left very unhappy with my experience. The first few songs were newer songs (like Bruno Mars) and I thought maybe they were just warming things up. They played a single ABBA song and then promptly returned to playing songs all over the place (Taylor Swift, footloose, Michael Jackson) which are in no way related to disco. A bunch of people were dressed in disco attire (PER THE THEME). Many people weren’t dancing and numerous people were holding up their phones with messages saying “PLAY ABBA”. Additionally, the event last year went all the way till the venue closed (at 1 am) and this year the promptly finished and kicked us out at 11 pm. These DJs did not get the memo of the night clearly. I’m hesitant to go to anymore if this is how they will be ran. Even the bartenders were confused about the music they were playing.
It was super crowded and the dj's only allowed who THEY wanted to dance on the stage. I was very disappointed in this Other DJ's are fair and allow anyone who is interested to dance on the stage. They played a bit of songs that were not DISCO too. This event had the least amount of ABBA songs played but he did play The Winner Takes it All which is nice. I hope we have more this summer at the Observatory.
The ad said the show would start at 8pm but in fact that's when the doors opened. The show didn't start until after 9 which would've been fine if it was a weekend. Hopefully the next show will be on a Friday or Saturday night. The music was good, though. Fun costumes too.
TL;DR: Grossly overcrowded with a subpar DJ I've been to at least 5 Gimme Gimme Events-- overall, they have been great! However, I wanted to leave feedback on the most recent one I attended to hopefully give organizers a heads-up, because the 4/20 dance in Denver fell really flat and made me feel cheated out of my money and time. 1. The dance floor was SO CRAMPED to the point where you could barely bring your arms out from the sides or move safely on and off the dance floor. It was basically impossible to find/get to your friends, naturally circulate in/out to get another drink or go to the bathroom, etc. without being jostled, spilled on, or having to press your body on other people's bodies in mutually uncomfortable ways. 2. This particular DJ felt really out of touch (it was 4/20; you can read between that euphemism) and was mixing music in confusing, anticlimactic ways that made it a struggle to keep good energy going. He insisted people open up a circle under the disco ball out of nowhere when there was already barely any space to move. There were maybe 10 minutes I genuinely enjoyed myself in the hour and a half I was able to last before not believing it was worth it to stick it out until the end. In general, I feel like this event has always been slightly overpriced (it's literally just a themed music set where sometimes they drop balloons), but I've been willing to pay over and over again because I love having a place and time to dance with my friends to disco music. This time I felt cheated out of my money and my experience; whatever changes were made from organizing it in the past resulted in a huge disappointment! I was not able to enjoy dancing and being with my friends because the crowd had everyone fighting for their lives, and the disco music and vibes were being grossly mishandled by someone who didn't even seem present enough to operate a Lime scooter, let alone be aware of how his MCing and music choices were being received. PLEASE PRESERVE ADEQUATE SPACE WITH TICKET CAPS (don't only go off of fire department capacity) AND BETTER VET DJ BOOKINGS IN THE FUTURE <3
The balloons were a lovely touch, but the DJ lacked proficiency in making the songs flow nicely. Some of the disco songs were fun, but for an ABBA themed night, there was very little ABBA. The idea of letting people suggest songs through instagram was nice in theory, but I would have preferred a curated, fully ABBA themed concert.
The music is great. But they don’t have a set dj. Sometimes the dj rocks sometimes it seems like it’s their first time lol.
