I love Brazilian Forro and Axe music and was super excited to see Gilberto Gil. What a treat to see this living legend live in LA. Gilberto Gil is a great performer and a true artist. He walked us through many different varities of Forro music which is not common here in the US. I really liked that he would explain the different styles - in English, and he provided cultural education at the same time. He has such an extensive catalog of songs. The 2-hour performance covered several 'classics' as well as newer material. I was surprised to see an audience of at least 50/50 Brazilian and "gringo", and by the end everyone was moving in their seat or up dancing. My wife who does not know his music and does not speak Portuguese also really enjoyed the show. I would definately see him again.

    amazing concert!

by summersoulstice on 4/30/10Nokia - Grand Prairie

While I am not from Brazil, I do long for theday I can see Giberto play in his native land. The concert was everything I imagined and I place it up there in my top 10 concerts of all time. His music touches my soul. Saudade. I would love to see him return with Djavan, Caetano, Gil and Milton...what a show that would be!

    Gilberto Gil is always awesome!

by Priscalina on 4/28/10Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

G.G. is a classic, so of course I'd recommend going to watch him anyday. I would've hoped he had more classics instead of only new songs. Also, wish we could've danced and had more of the fast songs, but with only strings (2 guitars and a violin), 'relaxed' and slow was what we got.

Did play my favority songs but...

by Baiana on 4/2/10Broward Ctr for the Perf Arts Au Rene Theatre - Ft Lauderdale

The Concert was somewhat disappointing. Most of us in the audience are Brazilians that live away from our country and have much less oppotunity in been introduced to newer songs and in fact our sweetest memories are brought from the older and much known songs which I'm sure we rather listen to. Also the idea of an accustic play in my opinion can get easily monotonous. For two things I was happy; to be reminded of how much beatiful poetry is in the MPB Music and to have heard "Andar com fe eu vou..."

    Gilberto Gil did not impress

by scootman on 3/29/10Nokia Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

I've experienced a wide range of music from all over the world while attending more than 250 concerts over the past 30 years. And this concert by Gilberto Gil was the worst concert I have ever attended. It was only the second time in my life that I actually left a concert early. Ouch!

    Music of Brazil Soars

by Chemteacher on 3/29/10Nokia Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

My friend and I really enjoyed the music of Gilberto Gil which featured him on guitar, vocals and incredible whistling. He is from the Brazilian state of Bahia which is famous for its music. He was joined by his son on guitar and a celloist. He opened with the song "Flora" dedicated to his wife. The small but enthusiastic crowd was predominantly Brazilian and sang along to most of the songs. Gilberto was a gracious performer and did 3 encore numbers. Dallas needs more of this type of uplifting world music. I think Brazilian music is the most romantic music of all. Bring more of Brazilian & Bossa Nova music to the area.

    Gilberto forever!

by Anonymous on 3/29/10Nokia Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

It was a wonderful experience to see a musician of the quality of Gilberto Gil in Dallas. The acoustic setting helped. His music comes from the soul, and he is such a spiritual person. His son is an accomplished guitarist (what is it with the Brazilians playing guitar? they are all amazing!) Loved the show, please come back Gilberto! And bring Caetano, Chico, Gal, Djavan to Dallas!!

    Gil Fantastic

by JTisgreat on 3/29/10Nokia Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

The last time I saw Gil was with a full band in Brazil. It was great. This time he played a more intimate set with only a cello and another guitar accompanying him. It was still great. And as a bonus we get to see Jaques Morelembaum. I'd recommend this concert to anyone who likes Brazilian music, or to tell the truth anyone who likes music. If you're Brazilian, you'll never get a chance to see Gil this close in Brazil...take advantage of the opportunity. I'd go again if there were a second concert.

    The Brazilian Spirit

by Cavelar on 3/21/10Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Gilberto Gil remains a prominent representative of the traditional Brazilian culture. His music and musical talents without doubt places him as an amazing performer. I strongly recommend anyone, particularly the homesick Brazilians to attend this memorable event. Why not a 5 Stars? Well, there is an aspect that I wish all Brazilian musicians/artists would bare in mind that whenever visiting their international audience - in the US for instance, consider that we are dying to be re-inspired, re-live, re-minded of our roots and home experiences. What I'm invoking is that they carefully and strategically plan a repertoire that contain their most popular songs, which the public will have a nostalgic experience - the "new materials" are OK however, not really that appealing.

    Sensational

    by AfroCuban43 on 3/16/10Lisner Auditorium - Washington

This is my first encounter seeing Giberto and it will not be my last. His style of music gave you a sense of love and peace like no othe artist. I did not know or understand the language but my senses felt every meaning.
