Set in the magical world of La Belle Epoque Paris, where fashion, glamour and passion prevail, Lerner and Loewe’s celebrated musical is a romantic comedy about one young woman's journey to find her true self... and her true love.
Vanessa Hudgens (Disney's High School Musical) leads a sensational cast featuring Corey Cott (Newsies), Tony Award® winner Victoria Clark (Light in the Piazza) and Tony nominees Dee Hoty (Mamma Mia) and Howard McGillin (Phantom of the Opera) in this Tony and Academy Award®-winning musical featuring glorious songs such as “Thank Heaven for Little Girls,” “I Remember It Well” and “The Night They Invented Champagne.” Following its run at the Kennedy Center, this glistening production, with a new book by Heidi Thomas (PBS's "Call the Midwife") and direction by Eric Schaeffer (Follies), brings the city of light to Broadway.
wonderful play ~ gorgeous costumes & sets! Very enjoyable play, too bad its closing.
Great musical....costumes, set, music, dancing and singing were wonderful. Don't understand why it's closing. This was the opinion of 6 ladies!
I had just seen An American in Paris, which is amazing, so I may have been tainted and expecting too much. It was a lovely production with a beautiful set evoking Paris, and amazing costumes. The lead actress was very good, but the show had no depth and was missing a heartbeat. There was no passion at all. The dancing all seemed redundant but satisfactory. For the average once in a while theater goer, it is great. I go to the theater A LOT, so I have higher expectations.
You can see this show and you will be entertained and delighted! You can not judge by the critics reviews of these shows. Gigi is such light hearted enjoyable fare for those who are looking for an escape from everything for 2 hours and 30 minutes! The staging, scenery, costumes and music are terrific! The performances were great. I know it is closing and that is a pity. The audience loved it and gave a full standing ovation !!
Loved the play- went with my family- children loved it ages 6-12 & my mom in her 80's(she remembers the original). All cast members including Vanessa were perfect for their parts.I would highly recommend the play.
Gigi was an enjoyable experience. The sets and costumes were beautiful!
Gigi is a superbly staged musical. Every single actor/actress gave an excellent performance. The sets were stunningly creative. The orchestra hit all the right notes. The romance between Gigi and Gaston could have benefitted from a few more romantic elements.
I was very excited to bring my 12 year old daughter to her first Broadway show. She loves Vanessa Hudgens, so it seemed like the perfect show. I am a big fan of the movie and this production had none of the grandeur of the film. Vanessa was cute and fine, it really was a very slow and boring version of the story. I bought expensive mezzanine seats for four of us and it we ended up leaving at intermission. Every man in the audience was asleep after half an hour. I was almost asleep and my daughter really didn't like it. The person who adapted the original, created a boring show, and a cheap production. A waste of over $600. Luckily, Wicked, seen two nights later, was amazing and made up for Gigi. Wish we had seen Matilda instead...
My mother and I are both fans of the movie and went to see the broadway play - loved it! Was different enough to hold our interest, the costumes and scenery were amazing, and the casting was teriffic.
Sorry to hear it is closing. My wife and I totally enjoyed the performance. We saw a Gentlemen's Guide a few weeks ago and in my opinion that is the show that should close.
Gigi never reached the heights I expected. To begin with, the set was more the type one would expect of a 'minimalist'.production rather than a typical full price Broadway musical. IMO, the cast was generally, and merely, adequate with the exception of Gaston, who came off as more of a child than Gigi, and never seemed to become a sophisticated man in any sense. He actually seemed to be more uncomfortable in his society than she was.
In NYC for one night and wanted to see a show that would be "fun". Pleasantly surprised by the superb voices and witty script, making it more than just fun, it was one it the best shows we've seen in a decade.
I didn't want to accompany my wife, who looks like Audrey Hepburn, to this version of Gigi but despite myself I have to admit Vanessa Hudgens nailed it. She had enough energy for the whole audience, as did Clark, Hoty, McGilin, and Cott. A real old fashioned big-finish Broadway musical!
I was so looking forward to this show because I loved the film and I love the music. I left feeling disappointed. First of all, after seeing many musicals recently, I'm beginning to feel that the orchestra is overpowering the performance. Sitting in the mezzanine, I found it much too loud. I feel sorry anyone sitting closer. The volume also can make it difficult to understand all the words. I enjoyed Vanessa Hudgins and the Gaston actor, but the rest of the cast was mediocre, I felt. There was overacting on some parts and a flavor to the whole show that bordered on the farcical, which is not my taste. The choreography was sloppy and lacked any kind of creativity. In general, there was no "wow" factor and it was not worth the money.
Very entertaining! Dancing, esp., was awesome! Costumes, alone, were worth seeing the show!
I was impressed with this cast. There was not a weak link to be found. Very enjoyable. Fun to see on stage.
Gigi was surprisingly memorable! Wonderful and very colorful scenery. LOVED the clothing!! The dancers were amazing and the voices were spectacular! I would definitely see it again. A new favorite of mine.
I couldn't imagine how new actors could recreate the movie classic, but with a little creative tweaking of the storyline, no problem! Gigi is timeless, beautiful, and well done!
Myself and the three people I was with enjoyed the play. We felt Vanessa Hudgens was adorable and her voice is strong especially for Broadway. To my dismay a couple of days later read the play is closing.
GiGi is a wonderful story of a young woman growing up. The costumes, sets and transitions were wonderful. Actors engaged. We purchased tickets months in advance for girls graduation trip and very disappointed that the lead, Vanessa Hudgens did not perform.
