About

After more than 30 years of a lifestyle that often required lots of time on the road, country legend George Strait has saddled up for what he says will be his final tour, a two-year outing dubbed The Cowboy Rides Away Tour.

More than 20 farewell concerts take place between January and May of 2014, and the shows -- many of which will feature a big-name special guest such as Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Martina McBride, or Sheryl Crow -- are proving to be hot tickets as fans celebrate the storied career of the country mainstay. He announced his retirement from the road during a September 2012 press conference in Nashville, and played more than 20 farewell shows during early 2013.

Strait doesn't plan to ride into the sunset -- he's just done with long tours. He recently renewed his deal with MCA Records, so he'll keep releasing new music and plans to also play select concert dates in the future. But grueling trips aboard the tour bus are in his rearview mirror.
After the Urban Cowboy ethos dominated country music in the late '70s, Strait emerged in the early '80s with his take on classic country stylings, and is often credited with paving the way for other neo-traditionalist superstars like Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam, and Randy Travis.
Strait's catalog includes timeless hits like "Amarillo by Morning," "All My Ex's Live in Texas," "Love Without End, Amen," and "I've Come to Expect it From You."

A 2006 inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Strait's remarkable career has included a record 60 No. 1 songs on the country chart. He holds many other country sales records, including most No. 1 albums and most gold, platinum, and multi-platinum albums. Only Elvis Presley and The Beatles have more combined gold and platinum albums in their catalogs.

A native of Poteet, Texas, south of San Antonio, Strait grew up in neighboring Frio County. He first took up music in high school as a member of a rock garage band. After a stint in the Army, he  earned an Agriculture degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos while playing in a bar band that performed around central and south Texas.

Strait signed with MCA Records in 1981, after Erv Woolsey, who ran one of the bars Strait's band played, urged Nashville talent scouts to check him out. Woolsey went on to become Strait's manager.

The concert was amazing. The only thing bad is the accoustic sounds. Otherwise, Lee Ann, Reba & George were amazing.

    reba and george strait

    by RADAR1 on 3/1/10Amway Arena - Orlando

What a great show. This was the 4 th time I have seen Reba and the second for George Strait and 2nd for Lee Ann Womack. They all seem to get better with time. Liked the stage in the round also. No wonder it was a sold out arena.

George Strait & Reba was not to miss!

by ucfknghts on 3/1/10Amway Arena - Orlando

We missed a couple of songs of Lee Ann Womack opening act due to Orlando traffic; however, once we were seated, it was great. Following Lee Ann, Reba took the stage. I must say that i would love to see her in concert again. Not only is she a singer, but an entertainer and truly makes you feel as if you are living the song. I loved it. She even came back at the end and sang 2 more songs hint: just chant Reba. George Strait took the stage next rotating each corner of the stage for every 2-3 songs so it was fair for the audience to see him. He was classic country if there ever was and strummed his guitar. All the bands were amazing and were introduced by the artists. The only downside is that there was an 'intermission' period between artists for the bands to setup & breakdown. The concert was 4.5 hours long and definitely worth the investment.

    Reba rocked!

Reba and Leann were great...the reason for us coming. George was OK, but we left after 4 songs as he is not our favorite.

    George and Reba great

by manone on 3/1/10Amway Arena - Orlando

The concert that put George Strait and Reba on the same stage was great fun and will be in my memory for years to come. However the Amway Arena was less impressive. If it weren't for the fact that most of the songs were known by myself and my wife, we would have been hard pressed to understand what was being sung or for that matter what was being spoken with the horrible acoustics of the building. Both entertainers were non stop and together sang for a total of about three hours. George stayed behind and shook hands from the stage for twenty minutes or so. Great concert bad venue.

LeAnn, Reba and George are AWESOME!

by JakeJacobson on 3/1/10Amway Arena - Orlando

Great concert, smoothly run and sound is incredible. George Strait anchors this trio of stars, but if you don't get there early and hear everyone, you are MISSING IT! The entire event was over 4 hrs, with short 20min intermissions between stars. Very Good Concert.

George and Reba together in Orlando were awesome!!

    by Kikibird64 on 3/1/10Amway Arena - Orlando

Reba opened for George Strait in Orlando and it was amazing! This was my third George Strait concert and I have NOT been disappointed yet! Reba was wonderful! She sang some of her old songs along with some of the new. She danced on stage throughout the concert. George Strait was fantastic! He also sang some of his older songs to the delight of his audience as well as several from his new CD "Twang"! My seat was absolutely amazing and I couldn't have had a better night! I sang, I screamed, and I cried! It was the best birthday present!

    Reba / George Strait

by MasterCJL on 3/1/10Amway Arena - Orlando

LeAnn Womack did alright opening - Reba was AMAZING!!!! She should have been the headlining act. George Strait was dull and boring. Ended up leaving during it.

Reba and George were unforgettable together!

    by MiaAnn29 on 3/1/10Amway Arena - Orlando

This is not the first time that I have ever seen George Straight but it was the first time for Reba. They both brought you from the past to the present, which I thought was really cool. I really expected to only hear their newest music but it was a nice relief to hear songs dating back to when I was just a little girl...the best concert I have ever been to!

    George Strait & Reba

by MamaBitty on 3/1/10Amway Arena - Orlando

Reba and Lee Ann Womack were great, upbeat performances which kept you hopping. Although I like George Strait, his performance was slow. After the upbeat performances, it was a let down. We left early as it was putting us to sleep.
