Father's Day Funk Fest w/george Clinton

by ns74 on 7/16/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

I bought tickets to this event for my father, and he hated it. He complained that the sound was horrible and that some of the acts sang only one song. He was thoroughly disappointed in the concert as a whole.

    Concert was awesome, but........

by Linnet on 7/16/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

The show was awesome!!! Except for George Clinton/Parliament-Funkadelic. Fans want to hear the songs they remember, the WAY they remember them. How you can have Sir Nose on stage and not sing his song? If you were not a REAL P-Funk fan, you didn't know most of the songs. While the young lady singing was ok, we didn't want to hear her all during their set.

Father's Day Funk Fest...Not worth the price!

by MrsJackson on 7/16/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

I bought these tickets for my father, who is a fan of all of the performers that night, was very disappointed at the perfomance style of Parliament and a few of the others. He and the other males that accompanied him left the concert early due to the disappointment. After paying $70 some odd dollars for 4 tickets I was very upset that the sound system was horrible, there was no proper introduction of acts. You didn't know who was performing until they started singing the songs. Poor structure of a great line up for a concert.

Funk Fest was not worth it!!!!

by MrsMidnite on 7/16/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

The entire act was not worth the cost of the show. The performance was dull, maybe because of their ages now. I would not pay to see any of them again.

    Good Show

I thought the opening acts were EXCELLENT! George was pretty good, but they lost audio toward the end of the show.

    This was the worst!

by Stephiemac on 7/16/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

This was the worst concert that I have attended over the years. This was also a gift to my husband for Father's Day - and due to the performances or lack of - it was a lousy gift. From the start it was not announced who the group was who opened the show so then you had everyone in the audience talking and asking who is this? Then the sound system went out but the performers did not know it so it was a horrific scene. The young lady who sang was terrible - she kept singing the same words over and over and over and over again which made us not realize her nice voice - but that she got on our nerves. George Clinton was possibly the worse act - he doesn't even sing anymore - he had the other gentleman sing for him and then he would just holler every once in a while. Terrible! Terrible! I want my money back.

    funk festival

by Langer on 7/16/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Legends of funk - confunkshun/barkays/sugarfoot/dazz band/slave were nothing less than outstanding. worth seeing again. THey were the backup event. george clinton and parliament - poor george can't sing anymore and sound kept coming on and off. People were leaving after 15 minutes. They played all their old cuts but wasn't very good at all.

Concert good, but George Clinton--BIG let down!

by Bluzsgirl on 7/16/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Great show put on by all the other bands. Ohio Players,Dazz Band and Sugarfoot were really good. However when George Clinton and Parliment it the stage, it felt like the concert took a turn for the worse. He only performed like 4 songs. Some lady who was not entertaining kept sing....ummmmmm, didn't pay to see/listen to her. George had NO energy and his voice is shot! I kept asking my guest, Is he sick? what's wrong with him? I will not be purchasing anymore tickets to see George Clinton & Parliment!

This concert was a good ol' skool concert. Every act was enjoyable to watch and it brought back many, many memories of my younger years.

    The Worst concert yet!

by MrsBob on 7/16/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

The only highlight of this concert was hearing some of the old school songs, and that was exciting because we just don't hear those songs as much lately. Basically these groups need to grow old gracefully. Know when to say, "it's over now."

    Sooooooooooooo satisfied!!!!

by pfunkforever on 7/16/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

I loved the show, it was great to hear all of the old songs that I grew up with. The bands transition so smoothly. Geogre Clinton as always play on and on, schedules don't mean at thing with these bands of old. It is the music and fan satisfaction that drives these guys! The fans were great except for the one woman who forgot she was at an inside concert and not Grant Park. She decided to light up a cigarette as well as a joint. She was toss out of the place and probably arrested!

THE FATHER'S DAY FUNK FEST W/GEORGE CLINTON AND PA

by babybird on 7/16/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Ohio Players featuring Sugarfoot, the Bar-Kays, Con Funk Shun, the Dazz Band and Slave were awesome. The music was excellent and the bands were responsive to the audience. They played well together and created a good show. Interesting that they were the warm up act. George Clinton passed his prime years ago but he always showed up with a great band and his performance was enjoyable. This time, IS BAND SUCKED! It appears he called a musician pool, guys who never heard the music before showed up and and played the notes. There was no passion. The female singer enjoyed her own voice more than the audience enjoyed it. I left 3 songs into the PARLIAMENT performance. I can not believe how many people arrived late. A full hour after the show began, people were still being seated. There was not enough staff to seat them quickly. It was disturbing and annoying.

    George Clinton...Very Disappointing!!

by MrBigStuff on 7/15/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Being a lifelong fan of George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic, I was extremely disappointed with the show that he presented. I've gone to see him perform many times now, and this was the first time that I regretted going. His additions in the show were not what his fans wanted to see. I still am a fan and always will be, but I think he needs to change his presentation of his current show.

    Too old

by MrsJean on 7/15/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

I love the old school concerts, because I am old school. However, George Clinton is too old now he needs to sit down and let someone else take over. Actually he did he had everyone else singing which was a disaster. I thought it was boring and tired. The Arie Crown was so hot I think someone forgot to turn on the air conditioner. My hair was a total flop when I left which was before the concert was over with. I dont think I will do another concert at the Arie Crown. Im pretty sure the audience would love to have a refund I know I would.

FATHER'S DAY FUNK FEST W THE FATHER OF FUNK

by MsAnne on 7/15/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

This event was phenomenal!!!! No time to get bored! I didn't sit down at all during the entire first half! And when George Clinton walked out on the stage- HOLLA! I would have went home satisfied. AGAIN, THIS WAS ONLY THE FIRST HALF! If there is anything to complain about it would be that I was having such a good time, singing, dancing and screaming that I was getting tired before George Clinton and Parliament fininshed ( and no it had nothing to do with age). His show was like a concert all in itself. Nothing rushed, the female that was singing could have had her own blues show, the lady was BAD. And his grand-daughter, she is definitely on her way. Best of all, everyone that performed could actually sing and dance.

    FATHERS DAY FLUNK FEST

by Totom on 7/15/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

It was almost as if they started to rehearse for this event too late, it was rather ragged. One dismaying moment was when Bootsy Cllins walk out for about five minutes of so called "funk," and walk off, that's was disapointing. The sound system seemed to be out of whack and at times couldn't hear talking, or the lead singer very well.

FD Funk Fest off to good start, ended poorly

by Sawmusic on 7/15/09Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Opening acts were good. Nice warm-up. George and Parliment awful. Didn't play many of the great Funk tunes they're known for. The sound was uncharacteristically BAD. The normal show (theatrics) were missing and without a lot of the original band members it was a terrible miss! Con Funk Shon sounded the best, maybe because most of the original members were there. The Ohio Players and Dazz Band did Ok, but Sugarfoot was far from himself. Maybe the time is over for these GREAT bands to put on performances close to the past. I guess they are in their 60's.
