GEORGE BENSON IN CONCERT:

George Benson brings his gifted guitar playing and sonorous voice to every stage he graces, consistently impressing fans at his live performances with his soulful and swinging jazz sound. In concert Benson unleashes a furious flurry of melodic guitar mastery on supercharged renditions of standards like “Take Five”, “On Broadway”, and the perennial favorite “This Masquerade”. He’s also a skilled band leader, hanging back with his infectious smile as he lets the talented members of his top-notch ensemble execute moving, eloquent solos. Ticket buyers can expect a jaw-dropping display of six-string showmanship every time George Benson brings his funky and fluid fretwork on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Pittsburgh-born George Benson was a child prodigy who had already cut his first single by the age of ten. He spent the remainder of his adolescence training under organist Jack McDuff before making his debut as a bandleader with the 1964 album The New Boss Guitar of George Benson. He continued to climb the ranks of the jazz world, even appearing on the track “Paraphernalia” from Miles Davis’ 1968 album Miles in the Sky. The virtuosic Benson scored a huge crossover hit in 1976 when he pulled double-duty on vocals and guitar for “This Masquerade”, which took home the Grammy for Record of the Year. With the encouragement of Quincy Jones, Benson explored vocals during the ‘70s and ‘80s, leading to the most commercially successful period of his career. He returned to his instrumental jazz roots at the dawn of the ‘90s and toured with renowned contemporaries like Chet Atkins and Al Jarreau into the new millennium. Ten Grammys and countless breathtaking solos later, George Benson still gives audience members an unparalleled listening experience with his amazing instrumental prowess and undeniable grooves.

George was great. Backup sound not so much.

    by CH on 8/15/23

Loved this concert hearing George. The drawback was that the backup sound was not balanced at all. Bass drum too loud as was one of the drums. The lady's instruments were hardly there. Guitar George used was sometimes too loud. I would have hoped this had all been set up correctly before the concert, but it really wasn't. Sad that it detracted from a wonderful concert in and amazing venue.

    by CMSL on 8/15/23

It was a wonderful show and George is quite the showman. The music was great, exactly as expected and a few surprises from the musicians in the band. Highly recommend this show if it comes to an area near you. I don't think you will be disappointed!

    Amazing at 80!

    by Robert E on 8/15/23

George is still awesome!! Especially at 80 years old. This is my 5th time seeing him live. Once about 30 years ago in Albuquerque, NM, and 4 times here in the Phoenix area, and he sounds the same!! Can't wait for him to return to Phoenix so I can make it 6!!!

Geore Benson is still at the top of his game

    by NitroBob on 8/15/23

Not every legendary performer can keep up their energy and enthusiasm over a long career. George Benson is the exception. His show was nothing less than fabulous! The crowd was as equally engaged with him as he was with us. Thank you, George, for a spectacular performance.

    Great show

    by MarV on 7/18/23

The show was great and the Venue was impressive. Ticket Master's app sucks. The onsite box office had to hand write our tickets and seat assignments. Definitely not convenient and seriously not senior friendly. There needs to be other options besides relying on faulty technology.

    Dinner and a Concert! 😀

    by PAPADAU on 7/13/23

This was our second concert at the Venue this year with one more to go. It's nice to have big time entertainment right in my backyard. Finally got to see George Benson. He's still getting it done at 80 years old! Boney James never disappoints. Lelah Hathaway was excellent with her shoes off. Get comfy Qeen! Keep them coming Thunder Valley Casino!

    Awful

    by BJ on 7/11/23

George Benson needs to "give it up!"He was so awful it was almost embarrassing to watch. He sounds horrible and barely even could be heard at times. A lot of the singing was done by his back-up singers and then they were wanting the audience to sing the main chorus of the songs. I think some of the audience was actually in shock as to how bad it was. We waited out only five songs and then left. Saw many others leaving as well. I wondered if I was too hard with my thoughts about it, but an acquaintance of mine was present there also, and felt the same thing. She and the people she went went were so stunned that they were laughing about it. Sad! :( Fortunately, we truly enjoyed Boney James performance prior to George's.

    We enjoyed the lineup.

    by Quil on 7/11/23

Layla Hathaway wasn't listed on the ticket, so that was a pleasant surprise. She performed a sog with Bony James. We last saw George Benson 25 years age. He has slowed down a bit, yet is still a great showman. During t h e show, I was wishing he had a couple back up singers. I suspected he was singing along with a recording. Overall, it was a good night. What we didn't like is that Thunder Valley makes the audience walk through their smokey noisy casino when entering and leaving the venue. Takes away from the overall experience.

    Disappointing!!!!

    by Poppy on 7/10/23

Boney James opened. Never heard of him but he was good. However, I bought tickets to see George Benson…NOT….. Boney James. 45 minutes would have been acceptable but 1 hour and 30 minutes later they were still playing. 8-9:30 is unacceptable. My friend and I left. Beyond disappointed.

    An Amazing Evening

    by BAMazed on 7/10/23

The Venue was fantastic every seat in the center was great. The sound system at Thunder Valley was superior which enhanced the listening experience. Each performer was phenomenal!!! Boney James stole the show with HIS performance and extremely talented band. One of the best shows I've seen this year!

    Incredible sound system!

    by Wohpman on 7/10/23

I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Beautiful venue. My only complaint is the limited leg room. If you have to use the restroom and you're seated in the balcony, in the middle, everyone literally has to stand up for you to get through. More space should have been allowed for ease of maneuverability. Particularly at a concert where older people will be attending and possibly sitting in the balcony. Too compact. Like sitting on an airplane in the economy section. Otherwise, the environment itself was awesome.

    Horrible Parking

    by Mary on 7/10/23

Accommodations for ADA were horrible. Parking for ADA was HORRIBLE. There were not enough shuttles to handle the number of attendees that were ADA. There was a HUGE number of women not aware of the restrictions on purse size including myself. We purchased our tickets in March which would given plenty of time for people to be notified about the appropriate size purse to bring. The Venue is beautiful but staff was totally unprepared for the number of people attending. We missed the first performer on the headline completely. We spent an hour just trying to park and catch a shuttle and then walk a mile to the entrance with a walker and a cane. HORRIBLE

    venue was terrible

    by jazzer on 7/10/23

The base guitar continually drowned out all the acts and was way too loud. Nobody in charge noticed or attempted to adjust. This was a jazz concert, not the Stones!!!!
