I drove an hour from the Chicago suburbs to Joliet, Illinois to attend The Gatlin Brothers Christmas concert. They have not toured for years but seeing their concert used to be an annual occurrence for me. They did not disappoint. Singing a mixture of their greatest hits and newer songs for the first hour and a half, interspersed with lively patter among the brothers, they transported me back in time, and brought back so many memories. After a short intermission, they came back on stage in colorful holiday array and sang another hour of Christmas songs, both secular and sacred. A lovely, lovely concert, and I hope they repeat it again next year. The concert was greatly enhanced by the venue, the Rialto Square Theater. It is an historic monument of the days of the great movie theaters, with fabulous acoustics, and decor that is over the top. For an hour before the performance, we were treated to live organ music played on an authentic movie House, organ, which then descended below the stage, so as not to interfere with the performance. If you have a chance to see a concert there, GO!
