About
Owen was always the class clown growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio. After high school, he got serious and enlisted in the Navy.
Owen became a military police officer at the Naval Installations on Coronado Island in San Diego. During this time, Owen worked up the nerve to go at a nightclub. After only a year of doing stand-up, he was named "Funniest Serviceman in America."
Then in July of 1997 he auditioned for BET's COMICVIEW. Two appearances on the multi-cultural comedy showcase won him his own one-hour "Grandstand" show. At the end of the season he was selected from the yearâs four "Grandstanders" to be the host. Not only is Owen the only white man to have ever hosted COMICVIEW, but he is the only white on-air personality the network has ever had.

by CrissCross on 1/25/20The opening act for Gary Owens was good but Gary Owens was hilarious!!! My husband and I enjoyed him at the Improv in Homestead. The club was packed and very diverse. Both comedians worked the crowd. We were at the 4:00 pm show which was added and YASS We are so glad we went. Thank you for sharing your talent, life experiences and the great picture. by Big Brad on 11/5/19DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsIt was a nice experience. We were in the mood for some good comedy and we got that in a nice comfortable cozy setting. Last time we were in Grand Rapids we went to a show at Van Andel arena and nearly froze from the ice underneath us. I will definitely be back for an event at the Devoes perfomance hall.

It appeared that one of the comedians went over their time which gave Gary Owen less time to perform. Nonetheless, Gary appeared "off his script" when he didn't have enough time and failed to improvise. The four đ is for Mr. Torrey and Mr. Crawford hands down!

Gary is the type of comedian that can appeal to any and everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and would recommend to see him. I actually had a bad day on the day I went to see him and the laughter was very necessary for me. I literally laughed from the time I sat down until the time I left. Thanks Gary for delivering !!!!
