About

"I ain't really happy," sings Gary Allan on "Get Off on the Pain," the down-home masterstroke that begins and provides the name for his new MCA Nashville collection, "until the sky starts driving rain." Unhesitatingly frank, mercilessly guitar-crazed, it's the rocked-out country confession of a smart guy drawn to what the rest of the world calls wrong roads and long shots, or complains of as aching bones and stubbornness, or — as Allan sings in a spectacular stretch of drawn-out soulful vowels — underestimates as dark horses. And as the California-born superstar releases his eighth studio album, it's about the most Gary Allan piece anyone could imagine.

  • Gary is Authentic

by shelbyt on 9/10/09San Jose Civic - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Gary in concert several years back, he was good and put on a good show. But last night was great! He's been through a lot and the authenticity of his life comes through in his music. It's deep, heartfelt and packed with a punch. His band was was entertaining too. Thanks Gary :)

  • Gary Allan puts on a great show!

by Turley on 9/10/09San Jose Civic - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

I hadn't been to an event at the San Jose Civic Center, but I had a great time! It was a great venue for Gary's concert last night. I've seen him in big venues and small, but the smaller ones have to be my favorite. The sound was amazing, and Gary sang most of the old favorites plus some upcoming songs. He puts on a great show, sings from the heart, and tells some great stories from his time on the road. He's on the road most of the year, and it comes though in his performance as his performance is polished and sounds great. If you like real, down to earth country music you HAVE to see Gary play!

  • Gary Allan was great!!!!

Gary Allan as usual put on a great show. I loved that he played new music and let his band play hard and have incredible solo performances. The venue was better than I expected.

  • Gary Allan - You feel the message of each song

by Fannymae on 9/10/09San Jose Civic - San JoseRating: 4 out of 5

Gary Allan gave an amazing performance. His voice pierces you feelings with the lyrics. Venue was nice, intimate and gave you the opportunity to get up close if you wanted or to sit back and enjoy. Loved all his mournful, hurt songs. No one sings them like Gary. On the minus side, though, TOO LOUD. Almost too loud to enjoy. I had to plug my ears to filter the sound and enjoy the lyrics and music. Sound guy should be fired. Love Gary Allan and his showmanship !

  • Awesome!!

Gary Allan did a fantastic concert! He was full of energy that got the entire audience on their feet. The sound was very good, not muttled like big arenas. Can't wait til he comes back again

  • Gary Allan Rocks San Jose

by Cgogirl on 9/10/09San Jose Civic - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

Show was terrific. Gary was in top form. Songs mostly focused on the latest album, Living Hard, although he did play 2 songs from his upcoming new album, Get Off on the Pain. Loved every minute. Obviously a loyal audience, as most people knew every word to every song. Thanks Gary!

  • Loved Gary Allan

by TLC4CA on 9/10/09San Jose Civic - San JoseRating: 4 out of 5

Gary Allan was great! He played his heart out. I loved the the instument solos but but have loved to hear gary more. The venue was not the best. I paid for seat and wished we were closer or that you would exten the stage out to the center or even better would have played in a round. The prelude of music should have been COUNTRY/WESTERN not anything but. I came for Country and you played Jaguares. Not good! You could have made better money if you had brought in drinks (beer) into the venue instaed of us going back out. Whoever is Gary Allan's promoter did a lousy job. Gary sould be bringing in a lot more people than he did last night and would have had the promoter do a better job. I plan events and this one cost Gary allan lots of money he could have had today.

  • Gary Allan @ the SJ Civic Auditorium

by t2CA on 9/10/09San Jose Civic - San JoseRating: 3 out of 5

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Gary Allan. The sound of his voice moves my soul. The band did an excellent show performing with borrowed/newly purchased instruments (following the disaster in Canada). Great guitar, violin, drum solos! The band ROCKS (for country music that is)! I wish the sound guys did a better job of turning down the base and allowing more of the vocals to come through. Maybe it was the acoustics of the auditorium but I think more could have been done to improve the sound. The Gary Allan fan numbers may be few in San Jose, CA but for those of us who love you... we love you lots! Please come back. I'll do my part to share my love for your music with friends. I'm anxiously waititing for your new album in the fall.

  • Gary Allan is Amazing!!

by eliank on 9/10/09Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I have been a Gary Allan fan for years and have seen him several times in concert. This was by far my favorite show ever! He is such a talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist; his band is great.... my only complant is that is was scheduled to be an outdoor concert, and instead it was inside. It was a perfect night to have a concert outside, too.

  • Fantastic

by lucky25 on 9/10/09San Jose Civic - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

Gary put on a great show. His live shows are a lot more rock than his Cd's with great electric guitar playing. It's been a long time since I have seen a singer perform with such passion.

  • Gary Allan was phenomenal

by Wendybiird on 9/10/09San Jose Civic - San JoseRating: 4 out of 5

The evening started out in a line of people outside of the San Jose Civic Auditorium and ended after an hour and a half of Gary Allan's true-country voice and music. Adam the Dancing Cowboy started the experience off with a couple of line dances for those interested. Gary Allan showed up, rough around the edges and sexy as hell. His band backing him up was wonderful - kilted guitarist as well as his other guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, fiddler, drummer, and Gary himself swapping guitars throughout the evening. A couple of the fan favorites: Right Where I Need To Be, Songs About Rain, Watching Airplanes, Learning How To Bend, Man Of Me. He must have thrown out 2-3 dozen guitar picks over the course of the evening.

  • Gary Allan was incredible!

by katfs on 9/10/09San Jose Civic - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

Gary Allan and his group were great!! because it was a small theater the sound was great and he was fun to watch. I have always liked Gary so it was wonderful to be so "up close and personal" with him and the band. I loved it

  • Gary Allan

    by kfox1003 on 9/9/09Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 3 out of 5

It was an OK concert. I love Gary Allan but when you expect to have a concert outside on a beautiful night and then it was moved indoors was awful. There were way to many people to have had this concert indoors. I would still go see Gary Allan again but I was very disappointed in this concert.

  • Gary Allan is great!

    by mindy4891 on 9/9/09Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 3 out of 5

I love Gary Allan BUT the concert was listed as being outdoors when the tickets were bought THEN changed to an indoor concert at the last minute; NOT COOL!!! PLUS Lifestyle Community Pavillion website does not state that there are NO SEATS - STANDING ONLY!!! ALSO ..... it would have been nice if the concert had started on time ESPECIALLY since we were STANDING ALL NIGHT LONG!!!!! I did not care for the local opening band either. All in All, I loved Gary Allan, BUT I will never go back to the LC Pavillion.

  • love Gary even more now!

by taylr on 9/6/09Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The show was so amazing. Gary is even sexier in person :) We had to wait wayyyy too long even for the opening act in the small, hot venue, but it was alll worth it!

  • Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!!!!!

by dshepherd on 9/5/09Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

We were 2nd and 3rd in line for 5 1/2 hrs. to see this band. We had dead center, 2nd row spots and totally enjoyed every single second. Gary and his band put on an incredible show and they throughly enjoyed doing it. I never get tired of watching them perform. So much energy!

  • Awesome as usual

    by TECH2 on 9/4/09Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was a great concert! Gary Allen is an excellent entertainer and his concerts are always fun. I was very disappointed that the concert was moved inside on such a BEAUTIFUL night. I love to see Gary Allen but I was looking forward to an outdoor setting.

  • He is the best

by Allierenee on 9/4/09Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Last nights concert was out of this world. I have never been to the Lifestyle Communities Pavilion before but it is set up so great. We arrived at 6:30 and we got right in. We found where we were going to stand and never moved. We could see Gary Allen great and he is such a great performer that I would see him over and over. He made so much eye contact with the crowd and is music is out of this world. This is the second time that I have seen him and every time he comes to Columbus Ohio I will be there. Good Job Gary

  • Gary is amazing

by tigs on 9/4/09Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Besides having to stand for almost 6 hrs before anything started it was fantastic. Gary is amazing how he has come back from what he has been through in his life.
