Good event, but don't pay for the expensive seats

by SnowdadWI on 2/23/17Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

Great fun event, reminding us of all the key moments of the show, with great music. The music is augmented (live orchestra and vocals, but also playing along with recorded music), but still great. Don't bother paying for the expensive seats down low. You will see the musicians better, but will actually have a worse view of the large screens showing scenes from the show. Best seats are in the center, about halfway up.

Game of Thrones Live Concert was amazing!!!

by javanasse1 on 2/23/17Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

Listening to the live orchestra playing and choir singing while recapping the best scenes of the show on giant screens was an experience we have never felt before. The energy filled the room as you experience the show in a whole new way!

More Fun than a Barrel Full of Wild Fire

by StPaulSansa on 2/23/17Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

A super cool experience!!! The orchestra played all the recognizable music from the show and did several GoT montages to music while giant 3-story tall screens displayed scenes from the show. The first chair violinist, cellist, choir, solo singers, and other musicians frequently came out in various locations on the enormous stage and would perform right in front of us. The props and effects were also cool. Sometimes it would "snow" down on the musicians, or they would be enveloped in fire. While the St. Paul/Minneapolis metro area is a pretty important cultural Mecca in the world, we're not an L.A. or New York so I thought it was an unusual venue choice for their World Premiere. My guess is as this is the first time they have ever done a show like this, they probably want to work out the kinks that are only apparent in front of a live audience. For instance it was really cool to hear the composer Ramin Djawadi talk about what went into writing the music and how he came up with the Game of Thrones sound. However he did not speak very much and seemed unsure of what he was going to say - like he was a little uncomfortable talking to the crowd. I actually wanted to hear him talk more about the music composing process. There are opportunities for this as there were a number of "dead spots" between songs where the audience would sit in darkness listening to the loud whine of machines lifting set pieces in position - which kind of ruined the magic of the show. In future shows I imagine Ramin will become more comfortable talking to the audience and might fill in those dead spots with additional anecdotes. But given this was the first time they did the show on tour, some opening night jitters may have been involved. At the same time the excitement and newness of the first performance was apparent with the musicians and it showed in their performances. Audience members dressed in a variety of ways. Some dressed like they were going to a night at the orchestra, some dressed up sporting their Game of Thrones apparel, others dressed up as their favorite GoT character. I even spotted someone dressed as a Direwolf! Overall it was an awesome show! It was a 2.5 hour performance and well worth the money! Definitely gave a much needed GoT fix while waiting for Season 7 to air this summer!!!

    GOT Live Concert was amazing!

by dashmommy on 2/23/17Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

This show was amazing. From the affects to the live music. The conductor/composer is such a nice guy. Humble and truly thankful. The people in front of us had never seen the show. At the break they turned around and said they were going to be binge watching when they got home. Went by too fast!

    GoT - fantastic show

by mjs010 on 2/23/17Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

As a GoT fan the video montage played in parallel with the music from the show was a great way to review favorite characters and plot lines past and present. Most of the music sounded familiar having come from the show, but I don't know that any of the pieces appear in whole in the actual show, so it was nice to listen to whole cohesive pieces as they were intended. Ramin Djawadi was the MC/Director for the show and his passion for both GoT and the music he's written was very apparent.

    GOT

by Nickjamesg on 2/23/17Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

Perfect review before the season starts in June 2017. The performers were awesome. Set up was really cool. Voice over video shots from the show was really loud. Only complaint.

Concert was amazing, seating not as much.

by Bennz42 on 2/23/17Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

The concert itself was great. I'd recommend it to anyone. But they decided to close the upper levels and reseat everyone in the lower level. No one knew until they got to the venue, and had to stand in line for new tickets. Many didn't make it to their seats before the show started. Poor planning/execution on that part.
