FREDDIE MCGREGOR IN CONCERT:

Freddie McGregor has been an unstoppable force in the reggae culture for over 40 years, earning a legendary spot within the beloved  genre. Whether he's preaching through his lyrics on "All In The Same Boat" or spreading the good vibes on stage, McGregor gets fans feeling irie with his lively performances. His signature dreads and spirited attitude are staples at his live shows, and although it's been over 30 years since his 1979 debut Bobby Bobylon, McGregor still sounds as sharp as ever, treating audiences to his expansive collection of hits on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Dubbed "Di Captain," Freddie McGregor has been playing music since age 11, earning his salt in the group The Clarendonians in 1963. It wasn't until the early '80s that he rose to popularity with his debut Bobby Bobylon, which established his strong presence within the roots reggae community with hits like "I Was Born A Winner" and "Push Comes To Shove." Since then, he's released over 30 albums, launched his own record label Big Ship, and created two children's organizations, proving himself as a socially conscious artist with his enlightening music and notable charity work. The Grammy-nominated singer continues to share his uplifting roots-rock reggae collection  on a string of highly anticipated tour dates, delighting fans with old classics and new material from his 2013 record Di Captain.

It was awesome, one the best I have been to. It was one of the best birthday gift ever. I had the time of my life on the floor in the front row. All the performers were excellent and Freddie was off the chain. Excellent performance. Thank you!

    Love Freddie

by SallySocialWorker on 7/18/18Blue Ocean Music Hall - Salisbury

Freddie always gives a great performance and really connects with the crowd. He poses for pictures with his fans and makes sure they have a good time. The only negative about this show was the sound at the venue which was not very clear.

    Perfection

by humpryder on 7/18/18Blue Ocean Music Hall - Salisbury

This event was perfect. I was always told "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"! My party and I couldn't have asked for a better evening. The pre-acts were wonderful, they got the crowd stirred up and feeling IRIE for the mian show. Thank you so much!!!!

Well worth the drive and the money!

by Anonymous on 7/14/18Howard Theatre - Washington

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I made a request for ADA seating and they made sure my. husband and I were comfortable. A server checked on us a few times which was great. We really enjoyed the show including the opening act. They were great!!! The only critique would be to have someone circulating to curtail the weed smoking. Rather than to “dime” a young lady out i signalled her to put it out and she moved on. As soon as she was gone 3 more took her place!

    Disappointed!

by Madgesty55 on 11/11/17B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

I've seen Freddy three different times at this venue, but I must say this show was the most disappointing. The show started promptly at 9 pm, and I was expecting Freddy to take the stage. Instead, I was greeted by two virtual unknowns...Freddy is a legend and should not be opening with unknowns. However, the first act lasted 50 minutes. The second act about 10 minutes. Freddy took the stage at 10:20 pm. By then, I was bored and restless. His performance seemed mechanical. I had enough and left around 11:35 pm while he was on the stage. I was disappointed because I did not buy a ticket to listen to opening acts.

    Reggae Fest was the best

by Jaamon on 8/13/14Maine State Pier - Portland

This is hands down the best concert I had ever been to, and I've seen many live performances. The energy was amazing, the people were amazing and the music was amazing. I'm very glad I had the pleasure of going. Looking forward to Reggae Fest 2015!

    Great reggae, a little pricey

by Lare7 on 8/13/14Maine State Pier - Portland

The reggae acts were all top notch, very enjoyable lineup. However, turnout was a little low, no doubt to the very high ticket prices. Tickets should have been more like $20-25, not $35-45, a lot more people would have come which would have offset the lower prices. Also, Shipyard is not the best beer and they only offered 3 types for $7 a plastic cup, that is way too much for a 9 hour event. The Jamaican food truck was very good, but they could have used a few more food trucks. I'm not sure how they billed this as the first inaugural Pier reggae fest (even if it's the first for this company), there has been a reggae fest at the Pier for several years in the past!

Show overall was good, all the performers sounded good. Need to offer more food vendors for the 2nd annual reggea festival towards end of evening stood in line for almost 2 hours, missing most of the second to last show. Besides that definitely would attend another reggea show at this venue. Also maybe give the main act extra time for an encore. Freddie McGregor was great, but disappointed how soon and quickly they left the stage. Kinda was like song over goodnight.

Anchorman of Reggae Hits Boston, MA 07/20/13

by Soundbouy on 7/23/13Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Freddie McGregor is a true Reggae Spokesman from Clarendon, Jamaica. Soul Rebel Project warmed up stage for Freddie's son Chino McGregor who did an outstanding set, then Di Captain of the Big Ship Band rocked the Paradise through to after hours where he autographed pictures, concerts, T-shirts, chatted with fans and held out for pictures. The Paradise was super cool & well managed. Great time! If you truly like reggae music Freddie McGregor, his daughter Sheba McGregor & The Big Boat Band are the BEST! Jah Live!!!
