I really enjoyed both games. My grandson had a great time. I wish we could have gone to see more games this year. Will plan for next year if it is held here in Baltimore Maryland.
The atmosphere here is so amazing. Having so much fun with the people here.
The events and activities for students and young folks have been terrific! So happy to see the local schools take a part of education day, career day and community service!!!!! The games are exciting and the “upset wins” are phenomenal! Hoping the night life in upcoming days is great too! Love the general admittance! More young alumni are coming out and participating. Food access - not sure how to improve but local restaurants are giving out flyers and QR codes. Hotels are filling up with guests laughing, dancing and having fun! HBCU Suites in hotels and at games are taking good care of older (and some younger) alumni with food, give- aways, prizes and music)!!!! Looking forward to the rest of the CIAA TOURNAMENT week and competition!!!
I've been attending the CIAA Tournament since 1981. Norfolk and Richmond VA. Winston-Salem and Raleigh and Charlotte NC. Baltimore Md is the worst location for me. Old Arena with no modern amenities for the average ticket holder. Sub par food in the arena. I understand that in 2023 the Arena renovations were not completed. Not much to offer outside of the Arena in terms of food. Hotels are not worth the cost, especially when some things (heat and hot water) aren't working. Hotel parking prices increased in 2023. 15-20 years ago, I don't believe that the CIAA would have ever considered Baltimore as a host city. How the Tournament excitement and attendance has drastically decreased. 2014 the tournament started going down hill. I don't believe that sold out Arenas like The 6 years in Raleigh and the first 6-7 years in Charlotte will happen in Baltimore. I understand why and I agree with leaving Charlotte. The tournament stayed there too long. Charlotte Hotels and others took advantage of CIAA fans and alumni. There are those who won't come to Baltimore because of the city's reputation. I'm referring to alumni and fans who have been at this years longer than I have. CIAA leadership needs to do better. First thing is to distribute tickets from the schools and the CIAA office. That way you won't have to pay nearly as much for group tickets, from ticketmaster. I don't expect the CIAA to consider the alumni and fans.
General admission seats sucks. Reserved seats allow you the same seats for all games every day allowing you to develope friendships with those seated around you. It also allows you the luxury of arriving to the games at any time knowing your chosen seat is unoccupied. That’s the way it was the 1st year of tournament at the UGF arena. Only two vendors in the entire arena with the most expensive food on the east coast. No lines, quick in and out because nobody’s buying. One good thing. You are allowed readmission. Me and wife were able to frequent food trucks outside. Great food. Overall, love the games and the arena. Might attend again this year maybe
1. carry in bag restrictions are bad. 2. food needs adjusted, not all people can eat fried food. 3. management responsible for opening doors failed and chains had to be cut off to let us in. 4. seating is too close. in all I had a good time, but could not play the games, because I could not participate in the games, because I had to take my purse back to the car,
The games were great. The atmosphere was all cold. Metal and iron. Dark. Only vending machines. Soooo many empty seats. Who would spend a week's vacation, time and money in a cold, dark place with no hot food? This location is so different than lush green money stealing Charlotte where people could walk down the street to pubs, restaurants or a club(s). It reminded me of a Batman movie. But on the other hand the schools get the money back. Too dark in there. Scary!
general admission seating, would perferred seating is purchased like other basketball games. need more options for food. the basketball was good tho
I loved the location. The restaurants I ate at, were delicious. Will be back next year.
I enjoyed my time in Baltimore however, inspite of the good games, fellowshipping with friends and Alumni. The location is not the best area for those from the NC Schools which make up the majority of the CIAA. The cost is far greater and the Arena is not as easily accesible for those with health challenges for climbing the stands. There is not enought variety with vendors especially to those who may not be in the devine 9. Other clothing and paraphenelia should be avaible for variety in choices to buy. The schedule is good and the social gatherings are fantastic. Just the other two hinderances make it not 100% perfect. I would love to see it move back to Charlotte or at least midway perhaps Richmond, Norfolk or Hampton VA
Basketball games was great. People was great. The vent the singers. Everything was nice.
I won 4 tickets from the radio station (95.9). Honestly if I did not win the tickets I would not have gone to the game. Leading up to the game, it was advertised that the doors would open at 11:00a.m. We arrived at 11:45a.m and the doors were locked. We had to stand outside in the cold for almost 25 minutes. At 12:05p.m., they came to the doors with bolt cutters to take the chains off the doors (I assume someone forgot the key.) I used the ticketmaster app to scan my tickets. When I was scanning my tickets, the young lady who was scanning my tickets could not get her device to work. I don't think they ever canned all 4 tickets. I didn't realize that the tickets were general admission but we were able to get very good seats. The men's game was first. It turned out to be a very good game. I didn't really care for the halftime performer. In between games, Dougie Fresh tried to hype up the crowd. He was so far away that you it was better to watch him on the overhead monitor. It would have been nice to have more monitors than just the one over center court. The women's game second. It ended up being a blow out. I'm not a big Tamar Braxton fan so the halftime show was just ok to me. I would go back again only if I won tickets off the radio.
The electronic ticket transfer for CIAA was easy and convenient. I had a problem with a transfer and the box office was able to help me navigate it and make the adjustments without a hassle.
NO southern food, nice employees, self check out for $7 heated fries under a lamp. No cash, only cards. Big imposition for broke college kids. How kids & elderly suppose to manage. Dark in there and impersonal. All the seats were sold but not filled. It felt like being deserted on an island
The games were exciting and I thoroughly enjoyed the competition. The tickets were way overpriced which probably led to the arena being mostly empty until Friday games. The arena renovations were not well planned as it requires people to go downstairs to use the restroom. It is not designed to be ADA friendly as the primary methods of getting to the seating area are stairs and escalators. There was only one elevator to transport handicapped to the primary seating area. If the tickets were more affordable, perhaps attendance would increase. The food vendor selections were horrible as they had no variety. They primarily just sold various fried chicken meals and fries. The food was way overpriced!
The only issue I had was when I transferred tickets from my iPhone to 2 people who had Android phones and they did not receive the message so they were it able to claim the tickets.
Baltimore did an magnificent job with the CIAA. Hotels, hospitality, shuttle service, accommodations were top notch. Looking forward to next year!
It was fun to see the new renovations at CFG. The tournament was great and we(family) really enjoyed the games. We are glad we went!
Always great seeing these HBCU teams send their best to battle for the league title. Great women's and men's basketball tin and some close games toward the end. Baltimore was a great host city and the venue was solid. Actually the perfect size for the crowds that came. Didn't feel too cavernous and this was my first time doing general admission seating at this venue. You could sit anywhere with the same ticket! It all worked out.
