  • Merry Widow not a Merry Evening

by macv4 on 10/23/17Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

Singing was mediocre. Could not understand the spoken dialog, was not enunciated. Acting was unenthusiastic. The Merry Widow is a favorite of mine, and I was very disappointed in this production.

  • Great singing, underwhelming production

by AnonymousOperaLover on 3/22/17Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 3 out of 5

The voices in this production were top-class, but the set design and directorial decisions were excessively abstract and took away from the greater experience.

  • Don Giovanni Was Breathtaking

by billzaferos on 3/20/17Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

This is the second time I've seen the Florentine's Don Giovanni. This was a memorable performance by all characters. I wish I could have seen it a second time.

  • Romance Espanol 2/11/2017

by CoCoMarie2016 on 2/15/17Wilson Theater at Vogel Hall - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

If you are an opera lover like me or are trying to discover new experiences, Romance Espanol is perfect for you. They take songs that are well known from other operas and ones that are not so well known and put them into a beautiful arrangement.

  • Awesome!

by eagl3s on 1/31/17The Wayne & Kristine Lueders Florentine Opera Center - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

ALL four singers were just outstanding. Each sang alone and then with each other and then all four sang....superb!

  • Beautiful new opera

by MilwaukeeOperaFan on 10/12/16Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

I used to think I was a classical opera fan only, but after being a part of the first performance of this newly created production I changed my mind. The story was engaging and in true opera form, tragic. Ultimately the strong leads blew me away not only by their vocal performance, but acting ability (which is a potent combination). There were a couple numbers that ran long, but minor to an overall brilliant production!

  • Wonderful Performance

by kmilwaukee on 4/13/15The Wayne & Kristine Lueders Florentine Opera Center - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time attending the @ the Center series, and I will be returning! A really intimate space and beautiful arrangements.

  • After Dark was brilliant

by Thatguynurse on 4/13/15The Wayne & Kristine Lueders Florentine Opera Center - MilwaukeeRating: 4 out of 5

Fine singers and an excellent accompanist together make for a wonderful evening. Being so close to the singers adds a dimension of quality hard to achieve in the PAC. The "After Dark" series is and should continue to be an important part of the Florentine's offerings.

Beautiful Powerful voice. The emotions and quality so resonated with my soul.

  • Florentine After Dark

by calliope1 on 12/3/13The Wayne & Kristine Lueders Florentine Opera Center - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

An excellent compendium of musical selections from frivolous to serious works presented by an outstanding quartet of new young talent. A must for opera lovers who want new experiences or those who want a taste of this genre. Informal space makes everyone welcome and every seat is the best in the house.

  • Excellent singing, acting, directing.

by EK51 on 5/17/13Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 4 out of 5

My first Florentine Opera production, but it won't be my last. I brought a 17 year old friend for his first taste of live opera, and he really enjoyed it. We'll be back!

Excellent performance marred by the problems with the English supertitles display.

  • "Figaro" -- Thoroughly Enjoyable!

by HorseOperaGal on 5/14/13Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

My friend and I attended a Sunday afternoon performance of "Figaro." The opera was both well sung and well acted. I am not a hard-core opera fan, but I was able to easily follow the plot, and the large dose of humor injected into the performance had me laughing out loud. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

This was my first opera, and I definitely enjoyed it. I would love to go to another.

  • Malfunctions galore

by Howdydoody22 on 5/14/13Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 2 out of 5

A malfunctioning super title display ruined the night.

  • Wonderful production

by musicman41 on 5/14/13Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

The acting in the Marriage of Figaro was excellent. The singers had impeccable timing and well-thought-out movements--they seemed natural. As a result, the humor in Marriage was great. The singing was very good. I found that the amount of vibrato was higher than I wished, esp. with Cherbino, but that's my bias. The singers knew the parts down cold. The orchestra sounded great. There were very few moments of out-of-tune notes. They were professional players. It is hard to find anything to pick about. I enjoyed the performance thoroughly. My expensive tickets were worthwhile.

  • performers were great but technical difficulty

by charandchris on 5/12/13Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 3 out of 5

This is the first opera I have seen. It was a entertaining and funny story. The cast and performance was excellent. The only reason I give it three stars is due to the fact that the overhead sign displaying the translation kept malfunctioning. It would lose half the display and then reset itself. It became very aggravating during the show. And with the coast of tickets these days I don't think it is too much to ask for such an important piece of equipment too be operational.

  • Albert Herring Opera

by WWSS on 3/20/13Vogel Hall Marcus Center - MilwaukeeRating: 3 out of 5

I saw Albert Herring at Vogel Hall (Milwaukee) on March 17 at 2:30 pm. I went primarily to see two of my favorite singers: Kathy Pyeatt and Alisa Suzanne Jordheim. Both sang very well, as did the rest of the cast of 13. I was particularly impressed with the acting and singing of the Florentine Studio Artist Kristen DiNinno. The opera is a comic opera lacking much in melody and a libretto somewhat difficuly to understand. It was successful, very much, because of the fine enthusiastic cast and orchestra. I enjoyed it, but Albert Herring will never make my list of favorite operas. The Florentine's earlier Torando was magnificant, world class and I am looking forward to see their Marriage of Figaro. This year's Studio Artist group is their best.
