Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, the pop culture phenomenon of FLASHDANCE is now live on stage. With electrifying dance at its core, FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL tells the inspiring and unforgettable story of Alex Owens, a Pittsburgh steel mill welder by day and a bar dancer by night with dreams of one day becoming a professional performer. When romance with her steel mill boss threatens to complicate her ambitions, Alex learns the meaning of love and its power to fuel the pursuit of her dream.
FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL features a score that includes the biggest hit songs from the movie, including the Academy Award-winning title song "Flashdance - What a Feeling," "Maniac," "Gloria," "Manhunt," and "I Love Rock & Roll." In addition to these hits, 16 brand new songs have been written for the musical with music by Robbie Roth and lyrics by Robert Cary and Robbie Roth. FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL features a book by Tom Hedley (co-writer of the original screenplay), and Robert Cary with direction and choreography by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis).
Great entertaining show! I would recommend to anyone.
Terrible casting. Second act almost feel asleep. The female lead not good at all. Good dancer and that is that. Would not recommend
Way too many songs sung weakly.acting seemed like it was in still the practice stages.voices didn't carry out the wayI thought they should.
We saw the show on Friday, 8/16 in Chicago. It looked to us like a mailed in performance. The dancing was poor at best. I understand a triple threat is hard to find and cast, but at least get one out of three for a show of this nature. We also have tickets for the show in Madison, WI and hope that the show is better.
I loved this musical!! I was curious to see how can this movie be turned into a musical , it flowed Beautifully!!! The dancing mixed with song was awesome and put me back into the 80s!!!! At the end Everyone stood up gave the cast A STANDING OVATION and it was well deserved !!! I truly enjoyed myself !!! I went home and danced through the house 3 days in a row afterwards!!!Lol :)
I do not have the answer to the problem but I think that the writers need to go back to work and make Alex a more sympathetic character. I felt more for Gloria than I did for Alex. Hopefully someone can get Alex to react a little more emotionally when she finds out her mentor dies... I loved the movie but this show falls short...
Such a talented cast! Fun girls night out! Great show!
I found "Flashdance, the Musical" a beautifully conceived show centering around life in steel town Pittsburgh, tightly directed and featuring a very talented cast. Impressive is the way so many character's stories are included in this one show. The choreography is spectacular, as is the lighting!
This show lost the charm of the film. Instead of being a quiet personal struggle of hard work and determination and a Prince Charming romance with some great 80's music and dance, it seemed like half the play was spent focusing on sleazy strip joint scenes that were a very small part of the original story. The new songs were mostly forgettable and they somehow made "Gloria" a slow bummer song and "Maniac" became a creepy number with a woman slithering around in a skimpy cat costume while the two leads were running around the stage in the background. Pointless!! I felt so dirty after watching this play that I had to take a shower when I got home. The only plus: it was so bad we laughed about it for two days.
I thought the performers were amazing, but I think the show was predictable and shallow. I would recommend to go see it, but maybe because I am a younger audience and wasn't from the decade that these songs were made and performed that I gave this show a average review.
The lead was fabulous. The sets and special effects were 5 star. The orchestra was 5 star. The sound was fair to poor. We were in center section row Q. Most dialog was understandable. Most of the song words were not understandable. The two leads were not too bad. It was a combination of a poor sound mix - tinny treble and too much echo , bad acoustics and, in this case, - the guy who went to N.Y -., a lack of pronunciation. He was the weakest character. The plot was formula 101 - totally predictable. I know it's not the movie, but the male lead needs a bigger better part. The show was entertaining and fun. The dancing was good but would have been better if an energetic tap number could have been worked in (42nd St.). My recommendation would be with reservations.
My wife and I could not believe how professional and talented the cast was. Even had a live orchestra. We would go again if there was time. Even the Cadillac Thearter added enjoyment to the experience. The two leads, Jillian Mueller and Mathew Hydzik, were perfection in motion and in voice.
My sister and I truly enjoyed this emotionally charged performance. The cast was endearing and the music was exceptional.
Audio from actors was difficult to understand as the music drownd out the voices most of the time. Actors showed enthusiasm but performance was less than expected, musical score was lackluster at best. Graphics on screen, pre show, were blurry and poorly done. Overall, this one could dance away without anyone noticing.
Very high energy! Sets were changed quickly and flawlessly. I'm so glad they made Flashdance into a musical! The water looked very real. I recommend everyone see this play. Washroom lines were too long. Eight stalls is not enough!
Wonderful dancing BUT where seated several of us had a hard time hearing the dialog. I mentioned this to the usher who got a supervisor. She was going to pass the info to the sound technician. I didn't notice much difference. My 16 year old granddaughter even said she didn't hear everything the first half but seemed to be better the second. I could have gotten the hearing device and next time I will just in case. Enjoyed Flashdance
Dialogue between actors wasn't memorable. Production quality (particularly sound) was not good. Content was consistent with successful movie, but overall delivery wasn't uplifting.
Had a TOTALLY knarly GOOD TIME. Sad that our whole entire section WAS EMPTY. Should have been a packed house every performance.
The dancers and the music was great but something was off-might be the choreography.
Loved it! Definitely recommending it! Actors could face the crowd more instead of talking to each other. Some of the parts were a little hard to hear. Thanks so much though, we still loved it.
