Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, the pop culture phenomenon of FLASHDANCE is now live on stage. With electrifying dance at its core, FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL tells the inspiring and unforgettable story of Alex Owens, a Pittsburgh steel mill welder by day and a bar dancer by night with dreams of one day becoming a professional performer. When romance with her steel mill boss threatens to complicate her ambitions, Alex learns the meaning of love and its power to fuel the pursuit of her dream.
FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL features a score that includes the biggest hit songs from the movie, including the Academy Award-winning title song "Flashdance - What a Feeling," "Maniac," "Gloria," "Manhunt," and "I Love Rock & Roll." In addition to these hits, 16 brand new songs have been written for the musical with music by Robbie Roth and lyrics by Robert Cary and Robbie Roth. FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL features a book by Tom Hedley (co-writer of the original screenplay), and Robert Cary with direction and choreography by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis).
dancers lacked energy. music was good, but dancers were extremely disappointing.
The screenplay stayed pretty close to the storyline of the movie which was a good thing as I don't think the story as presented on stage would make sense to someone who did not see the movie first. The performers were excellent. The dance numbers were great. The weak areas were the opening number which did not make use of the male dancers talent just merely having them walk around and sing like a high school musical, and the nightclub/restaurant scenes which were barely recognizeable with little scenery/props and poor dialog/jokes for Jimmy and his boss (much better handled in the movie). The orchestra was very good and I appreciated that they played the music from the movie as written and did not make their own renditions of these classic songs. We left the theatre in a good positive mood and were glad we went.
Having seen the movie many times I had to keep an open mind knowing that movies and plays are definitely not the same. For the most part, it was very well done. The singing and dancing was excellent. However, there were a few disjointed scenes that I thought took away from the dancing. The main one was "I love Rock ad Roll"; which they interrupted a few times going back and forth between that and the dating scenes. No matter, it was well worth the price of the ticket.
It was great but they needed to enlarge the "Gloria" song!!! New music was terrific and the choreography was amazing!!!loved it!
The musical was so enjoyable. The songs they sang had me singing along.
High energy cast. Good music and dancing. The woman playing the lead role was a great singer and dancer.
Flashdance was exciting and as good as I expected it to be. The music was good, the singers had very good singing voices and the dancers were wonderful. I would recommend it to everyone of all ages to see.
I thought the performance was terrific. Our seats allowed us to see everything. The music was perfect. Just a great night out in the theater district. We like to come in to see a musical or play and stay for the weekend and enjoy Chicago like tourists.
The show was better than I expected! Fabulous set designs and special effects. Great music, terrific dancing. Overall it was a very enjoyable performance. I wish it stuck around longer for friends to have a chance to see it.
I read the reviews before seeing this show, and quite frankly, was shocked that anyone could be so negative. This was a fun show. The cast was talented and energetic! We sat in the balcony, and I do agree at times I think we would have heard better up front, but the dancing was amazing and this was thoroughtly enjoyable.
Flashdance was amazing! The cast was great & the show was wonderful.
Took my wife to see Flashdance on our anniversary. This was my introduction to the arts, the performance was more enjoyable than I thought that it could be. I have reached the half century mark and I am very dissappointed with myself for not having an open mind and giving the arts a chance. (All of the missed opportunities) I will be expanding my horizons in the future. I only gave it four stars because I have nothing to compare it to.
Absolutely amazing!! The best play I have ever been to. Great dancing and singing. Actors were amazing especially Jillian!! Gave me chills I would love to see it again if I could!
It would be a fun show to see if you were really into Flashdance in the 80s. I wasn't, so it didn't bring back a lot of fun flashbacks for me. The dancing was great, but during the first half of the show, the words were not as crisp and easy to hear as I would have liked. Costumes were fun, but sometimes distracting since I kept thinking that something was going to fall out of somewhere! What bothered me most was the number of people who get up during a show to go the restroom or the lobby. I don't remember that ever being allowed during musicals. I can't believe the ushers let them reseat themselves during the middle of the show.
They had the great supporting casts filled with experience & talents.
This was a very enjoyable show! Great singing, great dancing! The Cadillac Palace is very clean and has a friendly staff. I went with a friend and we both thought the musical was great!
It was good but that's about it. We were disappointed in the lead. Costuming was not up-to-par.
Show was amazing and entertaining. The cast was incredible as well. Beyond amazing. Would see it again!
I really didn't care for the play. The dancing was good, the singing and the music wasn't. I liked the movie better. For the most part, I was bored.
I,ve seen many large musicals. This one is full of energy and great dancing. Jillian M. delivers a wonderful range of dance and provides a very enjoyable evening.
