About

FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS IN CONCERT:

Retro indie-pop group Fitz and the Tantrums are keeping the Motown Sound alive and well with their modern take on classic soul and funk. Combining call-and-response vocals,  backbeat tambourines, and vintage-inspired instrumentation, the band's electric live shows are equal parts shimmy and shake, inspiring nonstop dance parties as fans sing along to infectious pop masterpieces like "MoneyGrabber" and "Out of My League." Riding high on the success of their sophomore album More than Just a Dream, Fitz and the Tantrums are set to treat fans to another round of unforgettable shows on tour in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Michael Fitzpatrick formed LA-based Fitz and the Tantrums in 2008 after purchasing a Conn electronic organ -- an instrument that would prove vital in the development of the band's retro sound. The group performed their first show just one week after their first rehearsal, underscoring an effortless chemistry that was readily apparent on their 2009 debut EP Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1. After touring with Maroon 5 and performing at SXSW, the band signed with Dangerbird Records for their 2010 debut LP Pickin' Up the Pieces. The album landed at No. 1 on the Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart, establishing the group as one of the most promising rising talents in indie-pop and paving the way for 2013 sophomore effort More than Just  a Dream — a Top 40 hit on the Billboard 200.

The whole concert is so high energy, I was dancing the whole time with much of the crowd. They seem like genuine people as well - really appreciative of the fans."

  • Came for one band, stayed for all of them!

by MollyMcK on 4/11/11Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The entire night was upbeat and fantastic, CD101 did a great job picking the line up and hosting the show. I came to see Young the Giant, but after the show, I've got several new bands that I love just as much!

  • Fitz was amazing...great line up. Kudos to CD101

    by jordan266 on 4/11/11Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The Phantods, Civil Twilight, Deluca, Young the Giant, RaRaRiot (fantastic), and Fitz & the Tantrums. Best line up yet. Would have paid much more for this show. I feel like I robbed somebody

  • Great show!!!

We really enjoyed the show. Fitzgerald and Noelle gave it their all and the crowd responded! We can't wait for them to come back. Ladies, leave your big purses at home.

I go to at least 30 concerts a year and I can't remember the last time I had this much fun at a show. See them now while you still can at small, intimate venues.

  • Wow!

So glad Fitz added another New York show to the end of the tour. This is the second time we've seen them. My favorite new band! Love em!

It was okay, nothing spectacular. Maybe because I hadn't heard them before.

  • Fitz and the Tantrums were amazing!

by Fitz5 on 2/18/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

After a so-so warm-up band, Fitz and the Tantrums took the stage with energy and enthusiasm. Noelle and Fitz kept the audience involved throughout their high-energy show and the "Moneygrabber" finale, with total audience participation will never be forgotten. See this band next time they tour. You will not be disappointed! The Music Hall of Williamsburg was an intimate, comfortable venue in a funky part of Brooklyn. An amazing night all the way around!

  • Incredible performance!!

The entire show as AWESOME. I could hear them beautifully, their lights were spot on and more than anything they were such incredibly tight performers! I will absolutely see them again.

  • A night of pure fun!

I had seen Fitz and the Tantrums once before at Bowery Ballroom and had such a good time that I ended up dragging a bunch of my friends to this show. None of them had ever heard a single song of theirs but 30 seconds into the show they were hooked. That's what's so awesome about Fitz and the Tantrums, especially their live shows. Their music has just the right blend of nostalgia and freshness, making it instantly accessible, yet with so much more substance and style than your run-of-the-mill pop/rock group. They clearly just want you to have a good time and sing or dance your heart out (and we gladly oblige). Fitz and Noelle are so infectiously charismatic and have an amazing onstage chemistry, while the rest of the band are clearly some of the most talented in the business (not everybody can make a flute solo sound as badass as multi-instrumentalist James King, so mad props to him). On top of that, they are better than most bands at trying to hang out with their fans after the show (which they did at both shows I saw). Just amazing vibes all aroudn. I hope these guys go on tour often because I (along with my friends who are all newly-minted fans) will definitely try to see them every time they pass through NYC.

  • Fitz rocks MHOW

by rbenny on 2/18/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Fitz and the Tantrums a month or so ago at Bowery Ballroom and they were great. They were so happy to be playing NYC again and thrilled they sold out the place. And with very little air play. So they added this show two weeks ago to the end of their 5 week tour and word is out. They sold out in 4 days. The energy was unbelievable. From the crowd and from the band. They just have this ready to break through confidence going and this is the kind of thing that makes a concert by a new group so exciting. Unfortunately the sound guy struggled throughout the show. At the start Fitz's mic was a bit hollow on the top end and from there it got worse. Not terrible but it could have been better for sure. I would bet most of the crowd didn't even notice but I work in audio so I wanted to jump up to the sound board and help him. But even for me it didn't hurt the excitement or how I felt about the show. Just nit picking. See these guys while you can still catch them in a small venue. Pure Magic

  • Awesome!

by FreeSamBrown on 2/18/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Fitz and the Tantrums were utterly amazing. It's been such a long time since I've seen a high energy show with musicians who were so locked in. AWESOME!

  • Great live show

They love what they do and so did the crowd. Such a fun show, can't wait to see them again!

  • This is only the beginning!!! I LOVE Fitz!!!

by Fitzfanatic on 2/16/11Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was a rumpshaker from beginning to end...what a great venue for a band who is only getting bigger by the minute!! The band is tight...the sound is an incredible fusion of soul, R & B, and hip hop. I cannot say enough good things about them! I LOVE this band and can't get their songs out of my head and don't want to get their songs out of my head...looking forward to what's to come! I even received a kiss on my hand from Fitz after the show!!! What a gentleman!!!

  • Fitz and the Tantrums Breaking Out!

by FBJS on 2/15/11Bunkers - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Fitz, Noelle and the gang put on a phenomenal concert. The venue was small and sold out, great fun, great music and great energy! Can't wait until they come back around.

  • Fitz & The Tantrums was AWESOME

by AmyKin on 2/14/11Bunkers - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

WOW!! My daughter found this band a month ago by watching the TV show Criminal Minds and what a gem she found!! Their sound is unique, big, and absolutely fantastic. The venue was a bit crowded but that didn't detract from the experience at all. Not only was Fitz fabulous but the opening band Chester Bay was also great!! Please bring them back to MN!!!

  • by RhinoSporidium on 2/14/11Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St LouisRating: 2 out of 5

The sound guy ruined the show. Very talented entertaining band, amazing sax player, and well crafted songs. However the sound started out bad and progressed from worse to unbearable. Really? Did you have a sound check? Or did the sound guy get too boozed?

  • fitz & the tantrums are a must see!

by beme23 on 2/14/11Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

possibly the best live show i've seen in years. fitz and the tantrums are so organized and polished, their sound is soulful and brings you back to the motown oldies. the duck room was totally moving to their awesome sound. i'm so glad that i got to see them perform, they are one of my all time favorite bands!

  • Don't Miss These Guys!

    by essemjay58 on 2/12/11Bunkers - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

These guys put on a great, high-energy show at Bunker's in Minneapolis 2 nights ago. Very intimate setting, I think by next time around they'll be in a bigger place. They're on the way up! Be sure to see them, you can say you were there from the beginning!
