FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS IN CONCERT:
Retro indie-pop group Fitz and the Tantrums are keeping the Motown Sound alive and well with their modern take on classic soul and funk. Combining call-and-response vocals, backbeat tambourines, and vintage-inspired instrumentation, the band's electric live shows are equal parts shimmy and shake, inspiring nonstop dance parties as fans sing along to infectious pop masterpieces like "MoneyGrabber" and "Out of My League." Riding high on the success of their sophomore album More than Just a Dream, Fitz and the Tantrums are set to treat fans to another round of unforgettable shows on tour in 2014.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Michael Fitzpatrick formed LA-based Fitz and the Tantrums in 2008 after purchasing a Conn electronic organ -- an instrument that would prove vital in the development of the band's retro sound. The group performed their first show just one week after their first rehearsal, underscoring an effortless chemistry that was readily apparent on their 2009 debut EP Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1. After touring with Maroon 5 and performing at SXSW, the band signed with Dangerbird Records for their 2010 debut LP Pickin' Up the Pieces. The album landed at No. 1 on the Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart, establishing the group as one of the most promising rising talents in indie-pop and paving the way for 2013 sophomore effort More than Just a Dream — a Top 40 hit on the Billboard 200.

The whole concert is so high energy, I was dancing the whole time with much of the crowd. They seem like genuine people as well - really appreciative of the fans."

They were AMAZING!!! VENUE WAS AWESOME!! Cant wait to see again!!!
Ace of Spades takes their security seriously, so there is a bit of a wait to get in. Because of this (I assume) the bands didn't start until over a 1/2 hour after the posted start time, and that was the opening act Twin XL who did a very good set. Then another 1/2 hour break before Fitz and the Tantrums came on, but they were high energy, engaged the audience and were fun and seemed to be having fun their entire set. They were appreciative of their audience and included songs from their early albums as well as their latest album. This was a great show, can't wait until they come to town again!
Didn't know anything about the band but I bought a ticket on a whim. So glad I did. Thoroughly loved every minute of it! They definitely have a new fan!!! ❤️
Fitz and the Tantrums were incredible, playing with great energy and fun dance moves! They are so much fun to see live. The Avalon Theater was a perfect place for a concert, small and personal!
Both bands were outstanding. The light show panels were incredible! I was so impressed by them and that the Avalon was able to accommodate them. Fitz and band put on an incredible show very energetic, sounded really good, wonderful show. It is the best show I have seen in a long long time.
This was an outstanding concert. Fitz and the Tantrums were very professional and gave it 110%. They played so many great songs. I liked the smallish venue, (I have been to several concerts there, Stephen Stills, Arlo Guthrie...) because everyone was up close and personal. I was wondering how it would be with assigned seats, but everyone was on their feet in front of their seats, and dancing for every song. You just had to dance!! Lighting was good and the sound quality was pretty good, too. I would go see them there again for sure. The warm-up band Twin XL was a bit harder to hear the vocals not sure who set the mics on that one?
They have such a comfortable, fun time on stage that the crowd really gets into the music!
Fitz and the Tantrums really know how to put on a show. Even in our little Avalon Theater in Grand Junction, CO, they used the stage as if they were playing a large arena! Love their music, love their energy, love their show. Really hope they will return to Grand Junction in the future for a follow-up engagement, will definitely be there and continue being a fan! Definitely made us all "HandClap"!
Great show and venue. Both bands were very entertaining but Fitz stood out for sure, such great energy and enthusiasm.
Fast and easy! Received my tickets right away and they were easy to download
I saw Fitz and the Tantrums in California a few weeks ago at a benefit concert. It was more of an acoustic show, and loved their performance. They were touring the midwest where I live, so went to their show earlier this week. It was okay, but I far more enjoyed their acoustic performance vs. what I saw in KC. Plus, it was just way too loud...I go to a lot of concerts, and haven't been to one in a while that left my ears ringing for no reason. The warm up band was flat out terrible...Twin XL I think? They seemed to confuse playing REALLY loud with quality. I went out to the lobby to wait out their show, with lots of other people in the lobby seeming to also wait out their set. Maybe this was my fault...I didn't know the band well, and perhaps had faulty expectations. Just not my vibe.
The Uptown is hand downs, my favorite venue in KC. It's always super clean and offers relaxed atmosphere (has felt safe enough in the past that I brought my 8 yr old this time). Fitz and the Tantrums as well as Twin XL were both fantastic and I will definitely see them again next time they come around.
The suggestion by Ticketmaster to transfer tickets to Apple Wallet was helpful. I had not used that before, but I will suggest to others. Venue was great, people were polite, and, of course, Fitz was awesome. I would use TIcketmaster again and go to a concert at this venue again.
Wow! What an awesome show. The venue was easy to access, there was plenty of space for a standing room show, security was kind, and everything ran pretty close to being on time. Both Twin XL & Fitz were absolutely incredible live, and I danced the entire night. I would love to see both of these acts again, and I would love seeing another show at the Uptown!
The Tantrums were energized, focused and in great form Tuesday at the Pageant. Would love to have heard more from the landmark first album, but no complaints here as they performed a fabulous show in front of a very enthusiastic crowd. Noel and Fitz make up a unique and powerful vocal tandem. A great night of music!
Sounded fabulous ! Lots of energy and really included the audience in the performance!
We had balcony seats in the Center Right. The configuration makes it so you can't really see the whole stage and you are looking through railing unless you are in the front row. You're better off snagging a general admission seat on the main level. The band sounded great and had good energy.
It was a great show from start to finish! Lots of energy and excitement and one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen! The venue was perfect! We were so close to the stage!
What an amazing show! The venue is awesome and there are no bad seats in the house. Feels like an intimate setting for an incredible price and experience. Twin XL was the opener and did a fantastic job prepping the crowd for the truly remarkable Fitz and the Tantrums.
Great music, great energy, makes the crowd feel important and part of the performance! A band the entire all-aged family loves.
