About

FATHER JOHN MISTY IN CONCERT:

Father John Misty brings folk into the 21st century with each eclectic element he incorporates into his unique sound, and his charismatic showmanship makes his live shows a must-see. When he's strumming his way through ballads like ìThe Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apartmentî his emotional vocals and heartbreaking lyrics make alt-country fans feel right at home. But heís just as comfortable strutting his stuff to noisy, spiteful rockers like ìThe Ideal Husbandî and turning out full-blown electronica on tracks like the transcendently beautiful ìTrue Affectionî. With his singular combination of Americana traditions with cutting-edge sounds, Father John Misty is a folk icon for a new generation, and fans won't want to miss the chance to see him conjure up his immersive sound in concert.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Before making his debut as Father John Misty in 2012, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Tillman was busy recording late-night demos in the Seattle-area. After self-releasing two CD-R demos he attracted the attention of Fargo Records, and in 2006 the label released his debut album Minor Works. In 2008 Tillman was tapped by indie darlings Fleet Foxes, who needed a drummer for the recording of their self-titled debut. Though he gained widespread exposure and success with Fleet Foxes, Tillman left to pursue his creative reinvention as Father John Misty in 2012. After a warm reception from critics and fans for his debut album Fear Fun, he set out on his first solo headlining tour. His 2015 follow-up album I Love You, Honeybear was a breakthrough success, appearing on best-of lists from esteemed sources like Pitchfork, Roughtrade, and Stereogum. As he continues to breathe new life into indie folk with his wide-ranging influences and poetic gifts, Father John Mistyís electrifying performances have fans eagerly anticipating whatís next from the innovative troubadour.

    Incredible

by Dave on 5/1/23Roxian Theatre - Pittsburgh

First of all, the Roxian was a perfect venue for this. Easy to park, not a bad spot in the house, easy to access bathrooms and bar. Second of all; Father John Misty sounded perfect. Everyone was so tight. Their live mix engineer was also on it. I had a spot right behind the mix desk and was able to watch him mix the entire show from about 4 feet away. What a treat. I don’t know who that dude is but he’s a master.

    Stellar

by Max K on 4/30/23The Forum Auditorium - Harrisburg

This is my second time seeing Father John Misty. I didn’t think that it could get much better than the Metropolitan Opera House in Philadelphia, but I can’t say I’ve been to a more intimate and enjoyable show than FLM at the Forum in Harrisburg. FJM never disappoints, and Loren Kramar was one of the best openers I’ve ever seen as well. Can’t say enough great things about the show and venue.

    Great Show!

by Valerie on 4/26/23State Theatre - Portland

FJM is a talented, multi genre, musician who puts on a very entertaining show. He played a variety of songs from multiple albums giving the audience a two hour plus show experience. My only reason for not giving a five star review was that on the louder songs the sound of his wonderful backing band was muddy and all the instruments were indistinguishable as well as FJM’s voice. Overall fabulous show and I would definitely go see him again.

    Straight forward

by Brandon on 4/25/23State Theatre - Portland

I liked every song I heard. He played almost all of his last album, peppered with a few popular songs from his extensive discography. Would highly recommend to anyone that enjoys live music.

    Iron curtain of sound

by HenriCat on 4/25/23State Theatre - Portland

I can’t say whether it was the venue or the sound engineers but the sound was a muddy mess. Very unpleasant concert.

    A terrific show

by GB from NY on 4/24/23The Capitol Theatre - Port Chester

Although I did not particularly care for the opener, they certainly tried. Father John Misty and band were terrific played for just over two hours and included songs from throughout his career. His stage patter was interesting and quite humorous. My only negative about the show was the volume, which on a scale of 1-10 was set at 11 which had the effect of overwhelming the natural acoustic nature at The Cap.

    Blinded by the lights

by CS on 4/24/23The Capitol Theatre - Port Chester

Capitol Theatre, a truly great venue, put on a truly unprofessional show. While Father John Misty’s perfect voice played, the balcony seats were either blinded by outrageous, dead on lights, or obscured from seeing the stage. It was really awful. I brought my fiancé and best friend, so excited to show off the venue and the singer, and while they are great sports it really made for a not great experience.

Great show but blind lights into the audience not fun

by Amy S on 4/24/23The Capitol Theatre - Port Chester

The music was great and he was great. Very talented. But they kept shining bright blinding lights into the audience that were really annoying and distracting from the experience.

Father John Misty really knows hope to put on an amazing show! I highly recommend seeing him because he has a certain gravitas to his stage presences when he is performing.

Great show! FJM was the best. Sookie Waterhouse was good.

by Brian on 10/2/22The Anthem - Washington

This was a really great show. FJM was fantastic. Sookie Waterhouse was new to me, but she was good too. The Anthem is a fine venue. Parking is really the only issue.

    An unforgettable luncheon

by Saul Goodman on 9/25/22Radio City Music Hall - New York

Gotta say that the venue was incredibly CLASSY. The bathroom is called a lounge and believe me, it’s a lounge. Picture this: very classy venue, sipping on a $12 Bud Light™️, wishing I had closer seats. Then out comes PAPA with just straight bangers. One after the other. While the show was incredible, papa’s music just screams and begs for a more intimate venue. I wanna see the sweat drip from his pores. I want to smell his breath as he belts out those utmost bangers. Even then, a mile away from the man, this was a 5 star show

    Wonderful

by Musetunes on 9/25/22Radio City Music Hall - New York

I didn't know his music all that well but was invited by a friend and I'm so glad that I went. What an amazing singer and songwriter. Definitely not pop. I'm going to listen to his stuff on Spotify.
