FATHER JOHN MISTY IN CONCERT:
Father John Misty brings folk into the 21st century with each eclectic element he incorporates into his unique sound, and his charismatic showmanship makes his live shows a must-see. When he's strumming his way through ballads like ìThe Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apartmentî his emotional vocals and heartbreaking lyrics make alt-country fans feel right at home. But heís just as comfortable strutting his stuff to noisy, spiteful rockers like ìThe Ideal Husbandî and turning out full-blown electronica on tracks like the transcendently beautiful ìTrue Affectionî. With his singular combination of Americana traditions with cutting-edge sounds, Father John Misty is a folk icon for a new generation, and fans won't want to miss the chance to see him conjure up his immersive sound in concert.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Before making his debut as Father John Misty in 2012, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Tillman was busy recording late-night demos in the Seattle-area. After self-releasing two CD-R demos he attracted the attention of Fargo Records, and in 2006 the label released his debut album Minor Works. In 2008 Tillman was tapped by indie darlings Fleet Foxes, who needed a drummer for the recording of their self-titled debut. Though he gained widespread exposure and success with Fleet Foxes, Tillman left to pursue his creative reinvention as Father John Misty in 2012. After a warm reception from critics and fans for his debut album Fear Fun, he set out on his first solo headlining tour. His 2015 follow-up album I Love You, Honeybear was a breakthrough success, appearing on best-of lists from esteemed sources like Pitchfork, Roughtrade, and Stereogum. As he continues to breathe new life into indie folk with his wide-ranging influences and poetic gifts, Father John Mistyís electrifying performances have fans eagerly anticipating whatís next from the innovative troubadour.

FJM was spot on. I’ve seen him four times and this was his best!
The venue (Andrew J Brady Music Center) had great view seating. However, the music was too loud and it was difficult to understand the songs. This includes Father John Misty, Lucinda Williams, and Hamilton.
When this concert was first available for sale, only Lucinda Williams was listed as the talent. Subsequently, Father John Misty was added as the headliner. After a short opening act and long set up, Lucinda Williams played less than forty-five minutes. I fell like this concert was mis-represented.
I didn't expect to be so Rocked. What an amazing song writer!! And the Band was soooo tight.
I only knew John Misty from about five songs that Spotify fed me. Not only is he a gifted songwriter, but also a gifted performer. He had such presence with a cool swagger. Loved the way he danced. I'll mos def see him again.
Another stellar, dark and soulful performance by Father John Misty. I wish I could say the same for the sound system with the sonic guitars drowning out his storytelling lyrics and voice. This is a constant problem at the uptown theater.
One of the best FJM shows yet! Would follow him to the next show but I have to go to work.
His songs are great and he is a great performer love the Uptown theater
Five stars, so good, excellent set, had us in his hands
The show was phenomenal from beginning to end. Honestly, up there with my favorite concerts of all time. There was a little confusion about doors open and show start. It was a Thursday so getting there at 5 was an issue for most. Almost everyone we met completely missed, Hamilton Leithauser, and a bit of Lucinda Williams which was a bummer, but FJM really did blow us away.
Awesome experience. 2 great openers and then Father John Misty and his band put on an incredible performance. Great venue, easy to enter and exit, not overcrowded. Beverage lines were a breeze but the lines for food took a little longer than I would have liked. Otherwise excellent show.
Fr. John Misty totally commands the stage. His band is tight and rips through the sometimes complex material masterfully. They played a great mix of old and new material and “Hollywood Cemetery Forever” and “I Love You, Honey Bear” had me singing for joy. A fantastic show at a great venue.
Long time Australian based fan of Father John Misty. Great to finally see him live. And the Salt Shed - with its many indoor/outdoor parts, and the Chicago skyline backdrop - is an elite venue. World’s best.
FJM never fails to deliver. The man delivers his classics with the silky smoothness and swagger we've come to know along with some excellent new songs that seemed to really pop when done live. I forgot how good they are having missed the last few tours. Won't miss the next visit.
I think the performers were lovely. I would have enjoyed it a lot more under different circumstances. Honestly, the cloud of smoke in the venue was so bad that I felt sick. I couldn’t enjoy the show. I had to leave early, which made me really sad. This was my first time getting out in a while bc I have small kids. I wish indoor venues didn’t let people smoke and vape inside. It really ruins other people’s experience.
just go; spur of the moment or whatever and then you get to look forward to the next time ! Really incredible band & poetry ... a voice doing honor to the high priest of pathos tbh
Great venue, sound, beer, food trucks, views, wine and music. Who could ask for more!
First off I liked this artist before this show but I am sad I waisted my money but more so my time to come and see this guy. Sad whiny songs and very little stage presence. Really hope this artist puts together a more lively show for future fans but I will be avoiding this artist in both live and Spotify performances.
Amazing artist and outstanding live performance by the entire band.
I am amazed that this show wasn't sold out, it was so good that I feel bad for people who missed it. Father John is a master performer who controls his voice with superior ability.
