About

TIM RICE and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER's Tony Award®-winning musical returns at last!
Eva Perón used her beauty and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. Adored by her people as a champion for the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world — while her greed, outsized ambition and fragile health made her one of the most tragic. EVITA tells Eva's passionate and unforgettable true story, and features some of theater's most beautiful songs, including "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "High Flying, Adored." Don't miss the stunning new production of EVITA, directed by MICHAEL GRANDAGE and choreographed by ROB ASHFORD, that Channel 4 New York calls "THE HOTTEST TICKET IN TOWN!"

This was my first time seeing Evita. The music and costumes were beautiful. I intend to read up on this time period to learn more about the era and the charectors. my interest has been peaked..

    The most beautiful theatre!

by KelliGirlBoo on 9/24/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Evita was good. Lots of songs, excellent performers, and loved the costumes! However, this venue was the most beautiful theatre I have ever seen and I have been to theaters in London and New York but this one I fell in love with!!!

The music was amazing BRAVO, the acting was great and before I knew it it was over. I wish it would have continued for another hour.

    Lacking something.............

by CeazySweet on 9/23/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I feel like this musical was lacking something. There was little acting and mostly singing to tell the story of Evita. However, there were times when the main actress/singer (Evita) was singing and I couldn't make out the words. I feel like it had more to do with the main actress not enunciating her words as opposed to a sound quality issue. I say that because I could make out what all of the other singers were saying. I have learned a little bit about Evita in Latin american history classes that I have taken. I know that she was a powerful yet controversial figure so I wasn't expecting the musical to make her look like a saint. However, many people in her time did hold her in such high regard. The musical does nothing to show why people loved her so much. If anything, it created a rather negative view of her. Meh....not impressed by this production.

    Good performances, great musical

by RJCBJ on 9/23/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

There is a reason why Evita is one of the great musicals. Songs are great, story is compelling. Best performance for me came from Josh Young who played Che. His voice is to die for. He did not become a Tony nominee for nothing. The Mistress was also a revelation.

    Have seen a better performance.

by Ozarkdaze on 9/23/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Saw 6 years ago in tiny Arrow Rock, Missouri at Lyceum Theater. Che and Eva were both better then. Ensemble was comparable as well as sets.

    Excellent despite Evita Stand-in

by tinygreeneyes on 9/23/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Sadly this performance was not well sold, and perhaps as a result of the small audience the actress scheduled as Evita did not perform. Although the stand-in's voice did not have the power expected for the role, the other performers more than made up. The actor playing Che was especially accomplished. The production was in all other respects top notch.

    Amazing 1st Act....

by LauMC on 9/23/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

but the 2nd Act didn't even compare. It lacked energy and was hard to follow. Stark contrast between acts.

    Emotional , Intense...

by Millionheiress on 9/23/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The play , "Evita," viewed by this writer on September 19 at 2 pm. , was presented with intensity, emotion, and heated passion. Desi Oakley's presence and vocal ability were excellent. The story was presented in a heated flow of action and emotion. All of the actors were in " sync:" The male characters were handsome, talented, and striking. The dancers were magnificent. The orchestra was awesome.

Demeaning for Argentina and Eva Perón

by ArgentinaEvita on 9/22/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Despite nice music and songs they told the story very one sighted. Evita was reduced to a slut who did no good except acting and sometimes handing out money. Argentinian people followed her because she was pretty and glamorous nothing else. I find this very demeaning! Evita introduced women's rights and helped the poor. Reducing that to nothing or even worse offending her and the people who liked her is disrespectful. For that reason I would not recommend the show to anyone. Broadway should get the stories first straight and then make a show out of it.

    Forget It!

by Ck49 on 9/22/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I had loved Evita in the past, but hated this show. The main actors' performances were wooden and perfunctory. The chorus, however, did a great job and the narrator was amazing. He should have been cast in a different show. What a letdown!

Fabulous new production. I knew every word from original cast, so it was exciting to catch the changes. Excellent performances!!!! I felt this production captured the culture better than any other. The actual pictures shown were captivating!

Why the understudy for Eva on the second day? Sets were good. Che was good. Understudy did well.

    Evita

by Kallop on 9/22/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

It was an enjoyable afternoon and production. However felt it was missing something. Not sure if it needed stronger voices, better coregraphy or just more passion.

    Evita was great!

by queenr4 on 9/22/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Saw Evita Thur. Sept 19, 2 pm performance. The roles of Evita and Juan were played by fabulous, good looking well rehearsed Actors that could really sing. Only negative thing I could say is that I paid a premium for tickets in orchestra 4th row left on the aisle, and in front of my daughter and I, three rows of middle school kids sat...who paid little or nothing. Unfortunately, we sat behind the tallest of these, whose hair was brushed into a wide topknot. It is not that I do not wish them to have a taste of culture....all art needs a future audience. But behind the folks who paid out the big bucks would still have been a treat. I only get to the city about three times a year and look forward to a great performance. And, I'm willing to pay to see the facial expressions of the actors....not hairdos of the 5'11" audience.
