About

Jimmy Buffett Musical Escape to Margaritaville on Tour

Plan your escape to the new musical about the choices we make—and the people we become—once we’ve had a change in latitude.

ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE is the musical comedy getaway featuring both original songs and your most-loved JIMMY BUFFETT classics, including “Come Monday,” “Volcano,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” and many more. With a book by Emmy® Award winner GREG GARCIA (“My Name is Earl,” “Raising Hope”) and Emmy® Award MIKE O’MALLEY (“Survivor’s Remorse,” “Shameless”), this rousing and refreshing new production is choreographed by Tony Award® nominee KELLY DEVINE (Come From Away, Rock of Ages) and directed by Tony Award® winner and La Jolla Playhouse Artistic Director CHRISTOPHER ASHLEY (Come From Away, Memphis).

Imagine a place where the sun is hot, the water’s warm, and the drinks are as cold as they are plentiful. Welcome to Margaritaville, the island paradise where city folk get away from it all, and the locals get into the kind of trouble you can almost always sweet talk your way out of. Take a break from your troubles, make some new friends at the bar, and kick back to the soothing sounds of the kettledrum. It doesn’t get much better than this. All you need now is a ticket.

ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE  More than a musical. It’s a way of life.

    Fantastic! Loved it!

by mhparrothead on 10/31/17Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

Escape to Margaritaville musical was very well-written and well-performed. Jimmy's songs were woven perfectly into the storyline. There was a lot of comedy and a lot of high-energy dancing. It was all-around awesome! We had been planning to drive from Maine to Florida but when we heard of the show being in New Orleans during our traveling time, we decided to detour via Louisiana to see it. It was worth every extra mile and every penny of admission....and the fact that Jimmy Buffett himself chose the night we were there to make a special guest appearance at the end of the show was an unbelievable surprise and bonus!

Destined to be a big hit on Broadway!!

by AdamsMom2 on 10/31/17Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

We really enjoyed Escape to Margaritaville!! It was a light, fun romp through Jimmy Buffet's music catalogue. We enjoyed all the subtle references to the lines in his popular songs and the interpretations of so many of our favorites. We loved the sets and the dancing too. Even if you're not a Buffet fan (how could you not be!), you're sure to enjoy this fun play.

Over before I was ready-that good

by JHAMAII on 10/30/17Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

When the audience is entertained to the point that it almost unconsciously sings or hums along with the cast, you know they are becoming a part of the events unfolding on stage. Familiar songs, but definitely not just retreads-each one apropos to the situation and very well done by the crew of actors. While all actors portrayed their characters very well, 'Tammy', the lead female's best friend was my favorite-I could see her as my "bestie" as well. And, the dancing, I should mention the dancing...always wanted to move my body like that and look as if I'm having that much fun doing it. I was never bored for a minute nor was I ever ready to bolt for the door (as would be customary for me). I would have sat through another 2-3 hours just to be a part of the "Margaritaville Experience" IOWs, the four of us in my group loved every minute. I must not forget that Jimmy popped out at the end of the show and joined the cast in a couple of tunes-gilding the lily as far as I'm concerned because the play stood on it's on merits. Don't get me wrong-we loved seeing him.

A tropical Mama Mia - on a budget

by MacWim on 10/30/17Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

A fun show at a beautiful theater (Saenger Theater in NOLA). The audience was probably 50% hard core parrot heads, and they probably weren't disappointed - especially since Buffett made a surprise and unannounced appearance at the end. The show was good, but rather cheesy. It seemed more like a college "follies" than a Broadway show. But still entertaining.

    Predictable but that’s okay

by Markad01 on 10/30/17Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

This is a simple musical story with a predictable plot, but nobody cared. The audience wanted Jimmy Buffet tunes to sing along with and they got them. Fun time!

    Margaritaville the best

by KehlerSC on 10/30/17Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

Characters, music, staging - everything exceeded my expectations. Even if Jimmy wasn't there personally it was truly a Jimmy experience! Worth the trip to New Orleans. Check out Chicago or Broadway when it gets there - a definite must see!

    Escaping Margaritaville

by Tchefuncta on 10/29/17Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

Very creative how they took Buffett's music and tied it into a play. Did have trouble understanding actress's dialogue that played the role of the owner of the resort...Audience really got into the music!

What a fun evening. From the first moment to the last the show was a delight. Whether or not you are familiar with Jimmy Buffet ( but who isn’t) the show was musically and theatrically joyful, upbeat, humorous, and always thoroughly entertaining. The cast was extremely talented and the sets were elaborate and very well done. This is a totally feel good show. I guarantee you will leave the theater smiling. I now have a new favorite musical!!!
