What a show!
by jodiemo on 10/24/17Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New OrleansI am a huge Parrothead, so I was really looking forward to this show. I went in expecting a typical jukebox musical, where the songs are shoe-horned into the plot just so someone can promote an artist's catalog. Was I wrong! This show actually had a plot that moved along and was so much fun. While some of it may have been predictable, it still was engrossing and I found myself having a great time! This show really does have some messages that would be good for people to learn. They are just delivered in a fun, tuneful manner! Will the Broadway/NYC critics like this show? Probably not as they seem to only "enjoy" show that promote some agenda or is radically different. Not that that is bad, but there are people who enjoy just going to a show to escape for a while and have a good time. That is exactly what this show is. It is pure, escapist fun. During the show, the crowd was having a whacky wonderful time, and they left smiling and singing the songs. Of course, most of the audience already knew the words and eagerly participated in the (spoiler alert!!!) sing-along! So to sum it up... GO SEE THIS SHOW! It was beautiful to look at, fun to watch, and great to hear. I sincerely hope that the big city "artsy" crowd will let their hair down and just take this show for what it is. A great evening (or afternoon) out sitting in an audience with a huge crowd of people who enjoy great music and slick showmanship. Is it "Fun Home" or "Hamilton" or even "Dear Evan Hansen"? No, and I am thankful for that! There is a place for those, but there is also a place for shows like this that cater to the fun-loving!
