About

ELVIS COSTELLO IN CONCERT:

He may be the "other Elvis," but when it comes to clever, madcap,  personality-drenched rock and roll, there is only one Elvis Costello. From his days in the British punk and new wave scene to his pioneering role in the rise of power pop, Costello has repeatedly broken the mold, appealing to both cult and mainstream audiences. On tour as a one-man-band in  2013, he displayed serious performance chops, making a backing band seem obsolete with beautifully stripped-down versions of classics like "Allison" and "What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding." Hitting the road again in 2014, Costello will be treating fans to his acclaimed solo show as well as select dates with his band the Imposters.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

London-born Declan Patrick MacManus, better known as Elvis Costello, began playing music at an early age under the influence of his father, a talented musician and bandleader. After playing in a pub rock band in his early twenties, he released his solo debut album My Aim is True in 1977 to moderate success, landing in the Top 20 in the UK and Top 40 in the US. Shortly after forming his backing band the Attractions, Costello  released his breakthrough 1979 album Armed Forces, a No. 2 hit in the UK and an enduring new wave classic. In addition to his knack for catchy, clever songwriting, Costello's provocative performances, pointed political lyrics, and anti-authority attitude helped fuel his success. With more than 30 studio albums under his belt, Costello's impressive run continues with another highly anticipated tour in 2014.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Simply an amazing show. So many great songs, and the man just doesn't stop! A great experience!"

"It's amazing that all of the talent on display was coming from one man. He played for nearly two and a half hours and not a second was wasted. Performers like him are a rarity."

"Quirky, eclectic and utterly entertaining. Elvis' voice is as distinctive as ever, and while he played many of his classics, the set list included many songs that were throwbacks to his father's time. I have a whole new appreciation for the man's guitar talents."

    Master of versatility

by Ray on 12/7/22Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater - Austin

This show was magnificent and displayed the wide ranging talent of a VP musical genius. His co-stars were a fabulous combination. I would go to see Elvis Costello again because I am sure that I would hear more styles and be educated by a master

    Not impressed

by Famous on 12/5/22Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater - Austin

This show was sooooo slow. The most entertaining part of the night was the auction. My date and I left early after picking the items I won. And for a great cause. But the show itself wasn't what I was hoping for or expected.

    84 fans 4 Elvis

    by Michael Deeeeeee on 10/22/21

Went and saw Elvis Costello last Monday and he and his band put on a GREAT show. Unfortunately, there were only 84 fans which purchased tickets to see this progressive Icon. We walked around the center two times to ensure that the count was accurate.

    One amazing evening!

by KSkim on 8/30/21Uptown Theater - Kansas City

The band was tight, loud and played for a full two hours! Even wearing masks, the crowd sang along and could be heard when summoned for vocal accompaniment. This Elvis Costello concert could not have been handled more professionally! My husband and I commented throughout the evening on parking lot guidance, the smooth processing of proof of vaccination, security check, ticket taking, bartending - and a very pleasant restroom attendant! Who even thinks of that anymore? I was happy to extend a tip for this service. Seat numbers were the only confusing part of the evening, as no one could figure out where those were. We just asked each other and everything was fine. The seats were amazingly comfortable! Live music events such as this are what I missed the most over the last 18 months. I applaud the Uptown's stringent safety precautions and frequent communication with ticket holders. Now, if only we could get the audience to stop live streaming, put down their distracting phones and watch for themselves!

    Elvis Costello

by PJ on 8/30/21Uptown Theater - Kansas City

The music was great, enjoyed hearing EC again. I was happy to see attendance required having received the covid vaccine or a negative test and wearing a mask. The staff moved people along efficiently in checking for proof. The only negative I have is once in the concert area there were some who did not comply with the mask which is frustrating, not sure how that could be monitored effectively.

by Chris on 8/30/21Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Really a great show. I last saw him in 1984. I really thought he was better this time! Line up of songs performed was amazing. Could not have asked for a better night. Played basically non stop for 2-2.5 hours.

Thanks Elvis. Masked fans: not so much.

by Kansa on 8/30/21Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Elvis Costello put on a great show & required proof of covid vaccination. About half the fans wore masks in this very pack auditorium. The seats were very comfortable, big the big guy in front of me never sat down & blocked the view of the stage. There were no video screens. 👎

Awesome Show - everything I hoped for.

by C. on 11/2/19The Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY - Port Chester

Allison, Watching the Detectives, Every day I write the Book. And a bunch more great tunes. Band and backing singers a treat too. Elvis’ voice had that unmistakeable sound that has always made him so recognizable.

    Unique artist constantly evolving

by Joe Henson on 11/2/19The Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY - Port Chester

The last time I saw Elvis live was 1978 at The Palladium in Manhattan, triple bill - Nick Lowe, The Ramones, and Elvis Costello and the Attractions! That was an epic night! It's been 41 years and Elvis has continued to make unique music. His voice has matured and grown in it's emotional palette. The concert at The Capital Theater was totally satisfying, a tasting platter of his career highlighted by a bluesy gorgeous rendition of "I Can't Stand Up" with his back up singers providing amazing harmony (sweet harmony). Also a smashing performance of "Green Shirt"! Nobody writes lyrics like Elvis, pure wit and genius! See this tour if you can. He's not phoning it in, Elvis is the real deal!

Elivs Costello & The Imposters Could Do No Wrong

by Jaydubleyoo on 6/15/17Jacobs Music Center's Copley Symphony Hall - San Diego

Elvis Costello and the Imposters were outstanding! I may not know a whole lot of the songs off his album "Imperial Bedroom" performed, but I liked the changes in style. The song-lyrics were excellent. Every musician sounded fantastic!

    Incredible Elvis

by Tonyl63 on 6/11/17Jacobs Music Center's Copley Symphony Hall - San Diego

For a man of his age to put on a 2 and a half hour show like this was incredible. The main part of the set was off the Imperial Bedroom album but he interspersed it with some old favourites and I particularly liked the stripped back set in the encore.

    Bad mix

by Stoneslover on 6/9/17Jacobs Music Center's Copley Symphony Hall - San Diego

I love Elvis Costello, and was really looking forward to the concert at a good acoustic venue. Unfortunately, the mix was off-the instruments too loud and Elvis too quiet-it was difficult to hear what song was being played. I was sitting in Orchestra Row W center, so perhaps being under the overhand of the loge played a part in the noise hitting my seat exactly wrong, but the board was right behind me and I imagine the op could hear just fine. The changing video/still background was beautiful and creative. But it didn't make up for not really hearing the concert and the ringing ears after. One of the most disappointing concerts I've ever been to. Sorry Elvis!

    Elvis Costello was awful

by Flatline51 on 6/8/17Jacobs Music Center's Copley Symphony Hall - San Diego

His songs were uneven and a different tempo than the originals plus he didn't play the popular song's off the first album. His rendition of Allison was terrible. Slow tempo, no instrument's. A complete butcher job.

by SPants on 6/8/17Jacobs Music Center's Copley Symphony Hall - San Diego

Very good concert. He played for a long time. Greatly appreciated this. He played the songs I liked which were his top hits. I wish people would stand up blocking those behind that can't stand-up for long periods of time.
